Meet Sophie!Personality: Graceful Backyard PhilosopherSophie is a stunning Belgian Malinois mix with a naturally regal presence and a calm, steady demeanor. She carries herself with quiet confidence. A deeply affectionate girl who loves leaning in close for pets and soaking up gentle praise. She enjoys being near her people, yet she’s perfectly content spending time exploring the yard, nose to the ground, thoughtfully sniffing and taking in the world at her own pace. She’s easy to walk on leash and is treat-motivated—which makes her both delightful and rewarding to spend time with. Overall, she’s simply a very sweet, steady companion.Fun fact: Sophie has a habit of pausing mid-sniff to look back at you, as if she’s checking that you’re admiring her investigative skills. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate partner who brings both poise and warmth to the table, Sophie is ready to claim her spot by your side—with elegance, of course.

Story
Gator is around 6-7 months old. He is a high drive dog and needs to be in a home that can provide him consistent walks, play etc. Preferably someone who understands his breed. He needs alot of attention. loves destroying dog toys and loves tug of war He needs to be crated if left alone as he can be destructive. He shouldn't be left outside on his own for to long as he can be destructive or a flight risk. He is a very loyal dog, he just needs someone who can spend alot of time with him. He's great with other dogs and takes an occasional Intrest in cats. He knows basic commands as well as opening a door if you tie a rope to it. He LOVES to run or be chased. I included a rehome fee just to insure he goes to a good proper home and doesn't end up somewhere he shouldn't. He would not make a good candidate for bight work.

We typically respond within 24 hours if you do not hear from us after completing the application please send us an email adopt@almosthmenm.org Approximate DOB 2/1/2026  Breeds are a guess based on behavior and appearance. They are not an absolute as he was picked up as a stray. History: Max was picked up as a stray on 3/27/2026. He was adopted quickly as soon as he was available for adoption. He was in the home for 1 day and returned for biting a family member. He was then held for rabies quarantine for 10 days where staff handled him for feeding and such. He was then deemed unadoptable due to aggression. We are talking a small puppy who nobody knew what his history was or how he survived on his own. Staff that had to feed him and care for him did not want to see him euthanized so a transfer request was requested and granted. He was then brought here to see what was going on. Yes he was very food aggressive initially and was corrected for it but what we also saw was a lack of socialization and food insecurity but on the other hand what we saw was a puppy who was very eager to learn and to be loved. So we worked with him. He met other dogs, we handled his food, and he learned that he will always have food and love. He also learned to play correctly with the other dogs and now loves playing and toys and just sitting on our laps and rolling over for belly rubs. He is a gorgeous, sweet, loving, smart baby who was dealt a very bad hand in life and almost lost his life because nobody was willing to follow through with training and most people had given up on him. We are all so grateful that there were staff members who saw the bright, sweet puppy behind the uncertainty and fought for him to live and hopefully find his forever loving home.   Current Behavior: Very smart and outgoing. Max is very, very smart and learns commands quickly. He loves playing and wrestling with the other dogs. He knows his name now and comes when called. He knows to go to his run when it is nap time and he places and sits. He still gobbles his food like he is scared it will be stolen but he is no longer actively guarding it. He takes treats gently and knows to sit for them. He absolutely loves playing in the water and hunting for lizards with the big dogs and wrestling and playing chase with the 2 smaller but older puppies Canyon and River. He plays nicely with my grandchildren and loves to cuddle in laps and then roll over for belly rubs.  Housetraining- Currently using a dog door. His ideal home will continue with his training. Know and understand his limitations and help him continue growing to be the best dog we know he can grow to be. He would do best with older children who understand training and an active family that might want to do obedience and specialized training with him or just have an amazing boy who can go hiking and such. He really is an amazing boy who just needs guidance and a lap and family who will love him unconditionally.  Neutered, microchipped, and current on all vaccinations Adoption Fee $200 We do welcome out-of-state adoptions. We typically respond within 24 hours if you do not hear from us after completing the application please send us an email adopt@almosthmenm.org   Female Belgian Malinois X German Shepherd  Approximate DOB 7/14/2024 – About 50 lbs History: Goose was scheduled for euthanasia due to her behavior in the shelter. When staff would try walking her she was very reactive while on leash showing aggression towards other dogs as well as people. We agreed to bring her in to work with her and see if she could get past that. We found she was severely under socialized and reactive on leash. She has been with us for quite a while now and has made remarkable progress. She is an absolutely amazing young girl but will need someone who can continue with introducing her to new people and animals so she can continue building her confidence.   Current Behavior: Goose has learned how fun other dogs can be. Her best friend is a large male German Shepherd who she absolutely adores. However, she does seem to have some issues with certain dogs and will need someone willing to continue working on her socialization skills with other animals. She would do best in a home with a large confident male dog she can learn from and play with. She did not like the female husky she met here so she might not do as well with other female dogs - at least not initially. She has met several people and is amazing with an introduction to them. She also did wonderful at the vet when we went. She will show aggression towards strangers at the gate.   Goose is an amazing young girl who learns quickly and is very treat motivated. She has mastered fetch and tug in the time she has been here. She ignores the cats and is the type of girl who stays right next to her loved one. I can open the gate and she will stay by my side as we walk around on the ditch. She also has wonderful recall to a whistle and/or her name.  Goose is leash trained, crate trained, house trained, dog door trained, and eager to please. She does have some separation anxiety so will need a secure crate when her loved one must leave her alone - not a typical wire crate but a heavy duty bar crate. She has been loose in the house and has done well if I leave for short periods but initially she should have a crate until she learns the rules of the house. I have left her and her bestie outside when I run errands and she does wonderfully. She will bark and whine when she can hear me outside - so an apartment might not be an ideal situation. But other than that I think she is a wonderful, extremely intelligent girl who loves her family and is just a sponge for knowledge. She is an absolute gem with children - when the grandchildren are around she is glued to their sides keeping an eye on them.     Spayed, microchipped, and current on all vaccinations Adoption Fee $200 We do welcome out-of-state adoptions. Story
Tiana is a wiggly, happy-go-lucky girl who just wants to be part of the action and make friends! Tiana came to AHNM from Socorro where she grew up with her siblings and other dogs. Tiana is very dog friendly and loves to play with other pups. She is still learning how to walk on leash, so she will need someone with patience to help her create new positive experiences out in the world! Tiana is a people pleaser and will always be the first to greet you at the door with full body wiggles and a big smile. Since she's grown up in a shelter environment, she can be a little timid, so it may be a good idea to bring in the whole family to meet her, especially any young children. She gets along great with other dogs and would love to have a buddy, but as long as she has a stable family that can take things at her speed and help her grow, she will be a lovely addition to any home! Come in and fall in love with Tiana today!

Story
Latte is a sweet young girl who is still working on building her confidence. Her ideal home would be a nice, quiet home where she can slowly acclimate and make herself comfortable. She is still learning how to walk on a leash so daily walks are important to improve her skills and leash confidence. She is dog friendly and going home with another social dog could help bring her out of her shell when meeting new people and being in new environments. This beauty just needs a little space and patience to come into her own, but she will blossom with time and her new family will be rewarded kindly with a sweet, loving, and loyal best friend.
