Story
Foster notes, 7/17/24:Shasta seems to be great with dogs as she gets along with ours and just wants to play. She does well with our chickens and even listens off leash (we live on acres ), and just runs in circles around you like a typical Belgian Malinois. She shows no aggression with anything, not even with food. Her only bad habit is jumping up and being mouthy with your hands, and she just needs some training with that. She also needs a lot of exercise, so I recommend someone experienced with this breed. She is scared of water and toys, and even water bottles, so we are trying to work with her on that. Other than that she is a very sweet dog!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. ENZO ~2 years old. Good with some dogs, but best as an only dog . Not good with kids or cats.  GSRA adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only.        Enzo is patiently waiting for the perfect family to find him. He’s a tall stunning boy who LOVES going for a ride in the car, seriously – this guy cannot walk past a car without letting you know he wants to get in. Enzo is currently a lean 85lbs and needs a family committed to keeping him at a healthy weight. Enzo didn’t inherit the best genes, likely due to a backyard breeder whose only interest was making money. Due to this, Enzo will need hip surgery within the next 1-2 years. The rescue will cover the cost of surgery at one of their vets, so his adopter doesn’t have to worry about that, but they will need to care for him during the recovery period. Enzo would do best as an only dog, he loves attention and going for a walk. He is low to medium energy, has no problems with stairs. He is still somewhat mouthy and will not be placed in a home with children younger than teenagers. Enzo is house trained and doesn’t need to be crated. After a walk, his favorite past time is lounging on the couch. He’s friendly but not overly pushy looking for affection. Enzo is a goofy boy that just puts a smile on your face being around him. We understand that his upcoming health needs will deter some adopters, but we are hopeful someone will give this boy a chance, he deserves his own forever family. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.KODIAK ~5 years old. Good with dogs and cats. Not good with kids under 16. Requires fenced yard. Residents of NC and SC Click to apply for Kodiak Please Note: This link will take you to Blue Moon Shepherd Rescue.         Meet Kodiak, a purebred sable male German shepherd. He is a gentle giant who loves to go for walks, car rides, explore and just sniff.   He is eager to please and although a big boy at 90 pounds, he has an extremely gentle temperament. Kodiak came to us badly abused. He has come a long way in his foster home and is ready to start his next journey.  His ideal home would be adult only (no children) where he can get all the love and attention he craves.  He is a ‘soft dog’ and does not like loud voices or to be spoken to harshly. He listens attentively and takes direction very well.   Kodiak loves routine and very much enjoys his walks. He has a medium energy level and is content to be a couch potato lying around watching TV. His foster home has several German shepherds and does well with all of them. He is not aggressive or confrontational. He would most likely do best with a female companion and not with a multiple dog home.  His BFF is a small Belgian Malinois mix and they love to play chase. Rory runs and Kodiak tries to herd her. He is a bit socially awkward and doesn't understand dog play, he thinks herding is playing. Some dogs would not find this amusing so he needs a mild tempered dog companion. There is also a resident training kitty in the foster home and he does well, however, on occasion when he doesn’t get enough exercise, he will play a stalking game trying to find her.  When he does this, he just sits and watches. If the cat runs, he will chase but will correct easily and stop when given the command.  He would not do well in home with several cats.   Kodiak needs a quiet home with calm, firm handlers. He would not do well in an active house and gets nervous with loud noises and voices.  An owner experienced with German Shepherds is a must. He also has a high prey drive for deer and squirrels so a secure 6 ft wooden fence is a requirement with no exceptions. On walks, a deer or squirrel will send him into high alert. For this reason, Kodiak cannot be off leash, or he will chase deer and be in the wind.  If you are looking for a dog for long hikes off leash, Kodiak is not the dog for you (a professional trainer has confirmed this).   Kodiak is a sweet, beautiful, gentle boy whose dream is a loving, quiet home that will give him the love and kindness he so deserves. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and on heartworm preventative. He is obedience, crate and potty trained. He walks well on leash, great in the car and is highly food motivated. If you have any questions or are interested in this very special boy, you can contact Donna at BMSR1313@gmail.com. Click to apply for KodiakVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.For more information on our adoptable pet list please visit: Adoptable Pet List Please join us at our next Event(s): Current Scheduled Events:         July 25, 2024, 8:00 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.STEVE ~3 years old. TBD if good with dogs, kids and cats. GSRA adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only.   This sweet boy is overflowing with so much love and enthusiasm for people. His motto is if life gives you lemons, let's make lemonade and friends! If you ever felt down, he would definitely lift your spirits. He has a great head tilt so you know that he is listening to you. This boy loves hard though, so it’s better that there were no small kids in the house but it’s only because he would bowl them over and smother them with kisses before you could get him off them! He would be ok with older considerate kids. Steve loves going for walks and exploring new things. He is up for any adventures you want to take him on. He does great riding in the car and is well behaved when riding. Steve has visited several big box stores and really enjoyed perusing the aisles and meeting new people. He is very polite meeting and greeting when we are in public. Steve is very excited to meet doggie friends. He is a bit socially awkward and is still learning how to read the cues when the other dogs have had enough. He is definitely improving in this department. We are working on how to "play it cool" when meeting other dogs. He is a work in progress and just needs someone to help show him the way. Just look at his videos! He does well on the leash but will need someone who will continue working with him on training. He is very food motivated so that is always a bonus. Steve was picked up as a stray. He was half starved and weigh about 35 lbs. He had also been hit by a car and the shelter took him to the vet. Steve was at the shelter for a while and they did a wonderful job helping him gain weight and getting use to being handled. Steve would love a family that is ready to be showered with love because he has plenty to give. He would love a fenced yard so he could run and play. He would love a playful companion that could help him learn the ropes. Steve has also discovered squeaky balls and absolutely loves them! He does kill the squeaker in the ball so you may need to set up a ball fund. Steve will carry one ball in his mouth while chasing another and has managed to carry 2 balls at a time.
