Age at intake: 3yrs BDAY actual: Jan 16, 2022 Intake date : Jan 8, 2025 Found date: owner surrender Coat length: med Description Bernstein Bear is a submissive, sweet and easy going, tall, lanky German Shepherd mix. Personality Bernstein is handsome, slender and graceful. He can be shy and timid at first but he is just being cautious in new situations. He loves being outside and doesn't mind the cold, but also relishes some comfy bedding in his crate. Once he warms up, he becomes everyone's friend and shows how trusting his true personality is when he feels safe and secure. He is so good, well behaved, gentle, nice, and obedient. He likes to give hugs but knows not to jump up on you. He is tall so if he stands on his back legs you dont have to bend over much! Bernstein is great with other dogs and integrates smoothly into a household with other pets. Background Bear was scheduled to be dropped off at Houston's BARC kill shelter on Thursday, Jan 9 by his owner. His owner desperately did not want to take him there, so they reached out to GNAR for help. She had to move in with her brother that week, but he wouldn't allow her to bring Bear with her because he claimed he can’t be around dogs due to severe allergies. GNAR found a spot for him in a group foster home just in time. Bear made a huge splash on social media rallying to save him amongst social media German Shepherd rescue groups. Despite such a rough start, Poptart turned out to be one of the sweetest, most loving pups you could ever meet. He’s goofy, innocent, and full of joy. When he thinks a treat might be coming, he’ll sit automatically before you even say the word — he’s that eager to please! He loves to play and romp around but is also gentle and respectful once he knows you. Poptart gets along great with other dogs after a little warm-up, and he’s easy to handle for baths, cuddles, and kisses. He’s still learning how to walk nicely on a leash, but with his love for food and his smart, eager personality, he’ll pick it up in no time. Poptart is the perfect mix of fun, sweetness, and loyalty — the kind of pup who will bring laughter and love into your home every single day.

Est DOB: 1/8/22, GSD mix, male, currently 75 lbs +, neutered, up-to-date on all his vaccinations, heart-worm negative and microchipped Meet Haribo!  (Hari for short) This incredibly handsome boy was born into the rescue on Jan. 8, 2022.   He is a happy, goofy boy with a lot of personality.  Haribo and his sister Honor were both born with a congenital issue called Megaesophogus.  Basically his esophagus is too large to move food adequately from his mouth to his stomach so he just eats differently that others.     When it’s feeding time, Hari sits in a special chair called a Bailey chair.  Haribo is a clever boy who knows how to get into his chair for feeding times all on his own.   He does very well eating and sitting in the chair for 20 minutes afterwards.   He eats twice a day and has been eating Royal Canin.   Like his sister Honor,  his Megaesophogus is easily managed with an inexpensive drug called Sildenafil.  He gets 50 mg a day. (25 mg in the a.m. and p.m.)   Haribo is great on a leash, loves to play with his sister and likes to play fetch.  He loves getting attention and will nuzzle your hands to get a nice petting.  He likes walks around the lakes in his foster family’s neighborhood and is interested in the ducks and squirrels but doesn’t try to chase.  He is in a foster home with other dogs and school aged children that he does well with. Haribo is in a foster home with other dogs and school aged children that he does well with.  Please consider making this handsome boy a member of your family. As we are a foster based rescue, we do require a completed application to be submitted before we arrange a meet.  This can be found on our website at :  https://almosthomepetrescue.org/apply-now-1   $200 (including tax) adoption fee includes core vaccinations, rabies vaccination, heart worm test (in dogs over 6 months of age), microchip and registration, spay/neuter, wormer and flea and heart worm prevention while the dog is in our care.
