Story
Zelda is curious and likes to explore. She'll lead the way while on a leash. She rode well in her finder's car and behaved well around his teenagers. We haven't seen her interact with dogs and she has little reaction when watching the other dogs at the shelter. She is eager to go outside but we don't know if she is house trained. Please be patient if she needs to be taught. She weighs 44 pounds and doesn't mind being petted but she won't be a pest about it. She is rather independent. She has been surprisingly quiet since arriving at CAP. Please offer friendly Zelda the home and family she deserves. (tw 4/2/2024)

Story
Sheeba was deeply loved by her humans, but unfortunately they find themselves no longer able to care for her because of their ill health. A wonderful neighbor is now caring for Sheeba, and Sheeba's parents have asked that she search for an absolutely perfect new home for her. Sheeba is a total lovebug, whose favorite position is beside her human snoozing on her back with all four feet in the air. She is easy to train with treats, and she LOVES training with her foster and does sit, down, and come, and is working on long down. Her foster mom reports that Sheeba is the most intelligent dog she has ever met. She would suit someone who enjoys agility or other competitions, or working on a farm. Her focus when doing work is amazing (with treats).  Sheeba walks off leash very well and comes on command. She will sit for a treat without being held for well over a minute. Sheeba's leash manners are a work in progress. When meeting other dogs on walks, she pretty much ignores them when she is off leash. If the dogs insist on saying hello, she is fine, with zero aggression. On leash, she can be highly aggressive with dogs. However, Sheeba is fine on leash with a human that provides firm and consistent commands. Sheeba will bark aggressively when a stranger goes by the house. She settles when told she is a good girl. Sheeba is house trained and at night she sleeps in a metal x-pen in the bedroom. Fetching a ball is one of her favorite games, although she is still working to get the hang of dropping it. Sheeba is friendly to humans, dogs and cats. There is an older cat and dog in the house with her that she annoys, because she is a Malinois, but she doesn't harm them. Sheeba hasn't been around small children, but because of her energy level, she may thrive best in a home without small children. True to her breed, Sheeba is very high energy. She will be a great dog for an adopter who can spend a lot of time with her and will continue with her training. Sheeba pulls when on her leash, but fortunately she walks well off leash, and comes readily when she is called. Being a Malinois, she does require a lot of training time in order to settle her down. Providing Sheeba with a job and perhaps a large yard would help with her exhuberance. If bored, Sheeba can indulge in chewing. She seldom jumps up on her human, but has done so a couple of times when she wants to play. She settles when she is ignored. Sheeba's foster has been working with her on the commands sit, stay, come, wait, turn around, and cross (the street). She sits at every street crossing and heels well, off and on leash. After about 10 days of training, Sheeba now walks on a loose leash, but only after she has had a long run, and with monitoring while walking. She walks well with the husband of the foster home, and that is with a bunch of dogs on a group walk.  Sheeba is currently fostered in Ajijic, Mexico, and can be adopted to a savvy family locally or in the United States or Canada. ##1909622##

Story
Why did we name her Latte? Because this girl seems like she has a few cups a day. She’s full of energy and always seems like the caffeine is hitting. It makes her very silly and fun to be around! Latte is a very playful and energetic girl. She likes to be goofy and encourages you to play with her. She’ll help keep you on your toes and active! Latte is a 3YO Belgian Malinois, but she considers herself a puppy at heart. She`s enjoyed attending in shelter playgroups where she can play with other dogs. She loves treats, but she doesn’t know any tricks yet to earn them.

These pups are in Katy, Texas too!

Story
Est DOB: 1/8/22, GSD mix, male, currently 75 lbs +, neutered, up-to-date on all his vaccinations, heart-worm negative and microchipped Meet Haribo!  (Hari for short) This incredibly handsome boy was born into the rescue on Jan. 8, 2022.   He is a happy, goofy boy with a lot of personality.  Haribo and his sister Honor were both born with a congenital issue called Megaesophogus.  Basically his esophagus is too large to move food adequately from his mouth to his stomach so he just eats differently that others.     When it’s feeding time, Hari sits in a special chair called a Bailey chair.  Haribo is a clever boy who knows how to get into his chair for feeding times all on his own.   He does very well eating and sitting in the chair for 20 minutes afterwards.   He eats twice a day and has been eating Royal Canin.   Like his sister Honor,  his Megaesophogus is easily managed with an inexpensive drug called Sildenafil.  He gets 50 mg a day. (25 mg in the a.m. and p.m.)   Haribo is great on a leash, loves to play with his sister and likes to play fetch.  He loves getting attention and will nuzzle your hands to get a nice petting.  He likes walks around the lakes in his foster family’s neighborhood and is interested in the ducks and squirrels but doesn’t try to chase.  He is in a foster home with other dogs and school aged children that he does well with. Haribo is in a foster home with other dogs and school aged children that he does well with.  Please consider making this handsome boy a member of your family. As we are a foster based rescue, we do require a completed application to be submitted before we arrange a meet.  This can be found on our website at :  https://almosthomepetrescue.org/apply-now-1   $200 (including tax) adoption fee includes core vaccinations, rabies vaccination, heart worm test (in dogs over 6 months of age), microchip and registration, spay/neuter, wormer and flea and heart worm prevention while the dog is in our care. All breed and size categorizations are estimates. If transporting out of state, the total adoption cost will be $500. Story
Est DOB: 1/8/22, GSD mix, female, currently 75 lbs +, spayed, up-to-date on all her vaccinations, heart-worm negative and she is microchipped.   Meet Honor! Honor is a gorgeous girl who was born into the rescue on Jan. 8, 2022.  She has always been a happy, playful pup.  A few months after being born Honor was diagnosed with Megaesophogus, a condition that affects the way food moves from her mouth to her stomach.   Honor is just like any other dog except that she requires a special chair to sit in to eat.  She has her own Bailey chair that she is trained to get in and out of it on her own that would go with her to her new family.  She is a very smart girl and she does very well in her chair when she eats and stays for 20 minutes afterwards.    Honor eats twice a day and has been eating Royal Canin.   Honor’s Megaesophogus is easily managed with an inexpensive drug called Sildenafil.  She gets 50 mg. a day. (25 mg in the a.m. and p.m.)     Honor loves to play with her brother Haribo, who was also born with Megaesophogus.   She enjoys walks and taking little dips in her foster family’s pool.  Honor is affectionate, sweet and silly and likes to chase leaves and toss pine cones into the air.  She is smart and very attentive and would be an amazing addition to any family.   Honor is spayed, up-to-date on all her vaccinations, heart-worm negative and she is microchipped.   Please consider making this adorable girl a member of your family. Story
***FOSTER OR ADOPTER NEEDED*** Est dob: 5/2/23,  neutered, chipped, UTD on vaccination, expected to be a large adult  Caviar is sweet, curious, friendly, and energetic. He is crated overnight and has access to the open door crate during the day. He is comfortable with his German Shepherd foster sibling and they have been actively engaging in play and zooming around the yard. He does bark occasionally, either when someone comes to the door or also at his shadow in the windows. He loves to cuddle on the couch and human beds. He responds to his name, sit, come, down. He loves pats, treats, chasing squirrels, being outdoors. He is still a puppy so he’s learning what’s ok to chew and what isn’t. He is gentle when taking treats and very generous with his kisses. Caviar is in a foster home with other dogs that he does well with. We are looking for a home where there are no children under 5 due to size and energy level. He previously lived in a foster home with older children and did well with them.  Please consider making this handsome boy a member of your family.
