Story
Koa IS AVAILALBE (updated 04-18-2024).To meet any of our dogs you must first complete our online adoption application on our website. For more information and the adoption application for Koa, please visit our website belowhttp://www.coastalgsr.org/dog_profile.php?ID=22760&name=KoaKoa was originally found as a stray in a rural highway town. Animal Control does not respond to calls for strays in this area. Their suggestion was to let Koa remain on the streets. Koaâ&#194&#128&#194&#153s finders would not leave him to fend for himself - they took him in and began searching for an owner. They took all of the responsible steps to try and find someone who might be missing this magnificent dog. After tirelessly searching, they called Coastal asking for our help. We triple checked the work they had done and did our own search of lost dog post and then agreed to make room for Koa! We have been getting to know Koa and we are so impressed with this young boy. He is extremely smart, super friendly and a great walking buddy! We believe Koa is just under a year old and he is going to be an XL kinda guy. His DNA may very well show him to be a Belgian Tervuren. We will have to wait and see! If you are interested in Koa, please fill out our application and we would love to introduce you!The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible. The adoption donation provides that all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis ( i.e., puppies who will need to be altered by 6 mos old). Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.April 18, 2024, 6:07 am

Story
Pierre von Baar is a gorgeous, 16 month-old Belgian Tervuren mix (best guess). With Pierre’s beautiful furry coat, we could sit and pet him all day and never get bored (and neither would he!). Pierre has a “je ne sais quoi” about him that draws you in. He is sweet, gentle and overall easygoing and loves to spend time with others. He has excellent leash manners and is equally as comfortable and polite off the leash in settings such as playgroups. He is an avid mingler with other dogs and always kindly introduces himself, but most of the time he can be found getting pets from his humans (yes, even after you’ve given him many before!). He has done well meeting small dogs. Pierre is brushing up on all things “Dog 101” with his basic commands, and he can’t wait to charm you with the brains equal to his beauty. Pierre arrived at the rescue with his equally wonderful sister Babette, and they are available as an optional pair. Pierre won’t be here long, so come meet him ASAP! IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN Pierre von Baar YOU MUST FILL OUT AN ADOPTION APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE: www.sheprescue.org Application link: http://www.sheprescue.org/Application_to_Adopt_a_Dog%20Main.html Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.

Story
Babette von Baar is a stunning, 16 month-old Belgian Tervuren mix (best guess). This adorable girl with the fluffy golden coat is such a sweetheart. Whenever you are near, Babette smothers you in puppy kisses. When standing next to you, Babette leans in. When sitting, Babette will invite herself onto your lap. She delights in affection and looks forward to cuddles and scratches, especially around the ears. Babette’s sweet demeanor doesn’t just extend to her people, but also to her dog friends. (She's an optional pair with her look-alike brother Pierre.) She’s gotten high marks in playgroup. She enters the yard comfortably and instantly starts mingling with friends. Still, she keeps you in her sight and will often check in for a pat. Babette has also shown lovely leash manners. She enjoys her walks and exploring new smells. She stays close and meets other friendly, leashed dogs nicely. Babette is a young girl, likely housebroken, and has a nice medium-energy level. She would love to find a home that enjoys her bubbly personality as much as her gorgeous looks so, if it seems like Babette might be right for you, or if you'd love a matched pair of Babette and Pierre, fill out the application linked below. (No cats please.)
