Story
Basil is a 4–5 year old, 65 lb Bernese Mountain Dog. She is currently positive for Lyme disease. An adopter will need to continue her 45 day course of medication. Basil sadly spent her life living outside, being bred for profit. Because of that, she didn’t have a lot of human interaction or the chance to experience many “normal” things, like leashed walks and the sounds of busy roads are still new and sometimes overwhelming for her. She isn’t the kind of dog who will thrive with frequent outings to dog parks, stores, or crowded events. Basil will be happiest in the comfort and security of her home, where she feels safe. If you are looking for a dog to take everywhere, Basil is not a match. Once comfortable, Basil is a goofy, loving girl. She absolutely adores her humans and wants nothing more than to be pet. If you dare to stop petting her, expect a paw or a head nudge asking for more. Her favorite place is right by your side, whether you’re cooking dinner, folding laundry, watching TV, or just moving from room to room. In her foster home, she happily greets visitors with tail wags and immediately requests pets. In new environments, however, she can be reserved and unsure. She loves rolling around outside, snow, mud, grass,it’s all fair game. She’s making up for lost time and soaking up every bit of joy and love she can find. She is an absolute delight to be around and will make a great companion. Basil is crate trained and dog friendly. She will need regular brushing and grooming. Basil is an amazing dog who needs a patient, compassionate adopter willing to provide comfort, consistency, and security as she adjusts to her new life. It will take time for her to come out of her shell and start showing her personality. Adoption radius 60 miles from zip code 20906. Story
The Easy-Going Senior SoulMEET COOPER!   Life hasn’t always been kind to Cooper, but you’d never know it by the way he looks at you—with soft, trusting eyes full of gratitude. This gentle and beautiful Bernese Mountain Dog mix, approximately 6–7 years old, has endured neglect and hardship, yet he radiates warmth and kindness. Cooper’s journey to a better life began when he was rescued by Tara’s House from an outdoor kennel just prior to Christmas 2024 where he had spent nearly all of his life.   Cooper is a gentle soul who is just happy to be with you. He gets along beautifully with everyone and everything; dogs, cats, critters, and older kids who have been taught to respect dogs. All he asks for is a cozy spot to rest his head, a gentle hand to reassure him, and the time to slowly ease into an active routine. However, if you have the time for a bum scratch…he will happily accept! Completely housebroken, this boy is a gem who also puts himself to bed at night in his crate. He will greet you in the morning with the cutest happy tippy-tap dance and a wagging tail.   He is a calm, sweet-natured old soul who would make an easy transition into a home with a fenced-in yard (and a home with carpet or carpet runners would be especially appreciated by him, as he finds hard floors a little scary!)   Cooper is proof that resilience and love can transform a life. He is waiting to meet you with open paws and an open heart. Could you be the one to complete his journey? If you’re looking for an easy-going, loyal and loving companion, Cooper is waiting to meet you!   Cooper’s adoption donation fee is $400, which includes spay/neuter, routine vetting and a microchip. You can apply for him by filling out our online application, which is found on our website www.tarashouse.org.  Please email us at info@tarashouse.net with any questions.October 23, 2025, 2:12 pm
