Story
When Ziggy first came to Rescue Row, the world felt like a scary place. New people made him nervous, and his instinct was to protect himself by snapping. Thanks to patience, consistency, and ongoing training, he’s learning that people can be trusted.Over the Fourth of July weekend, Ziggy reached a major milestone. His foster family had several guests over, and each person followed the same training techniques that have helped build his confidence. Instead of reacting with fear, Ziggy stayed calm and accepted the visitors into the home. His foster family was amazed at how well he handled the situation. He’s also developed a special friendship with the grandmother who visits each week. Watching him happily greet someone he once would have been unsure of is a great reminder of how much progress he’s made. When he’s not working on his confidence, Ziggy is a fun, happy little dog. He loves his daily walks, chasing tennis balls around the backyard, wrestling with his dog friends, and collecting every ball he can find. He has plenty of energy for adventures, but he’s just as happy curling up in your lap at the end of the day.Ziggy also loves car rides and is learning that the best place to enjoy them is safely buckled into his car seat.Ziggy is looking for a forever family that will continue helping him grow. He will do best in a home with another playful dog, someone who is home most of the day, and a family committed to continuing the training that has helped him succeed. Because of his needs, he is not a good fit for apartment living or as an only dog. He would also do best in a home with children 12 years and older.Ziggy is a 9 month old Miniature Pinscher/Shih Tzu mix who weighs just 8 lbs. He’s come a long way, and now he’s ready to find the family that will love him for exactly who he is.

Rescue Row is a 501(c)3 (non-profit) all volunteer dog rescue organization serving the DFW Metroplex. We are dedicated to rescuing dogs in shelters, dogs in abusive or neglectful situations, and dogs surrendered by their owners because of difficult circumstances. We place dogs in loving, responsible, committed permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption process, which includes taking considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a dog into their homes and lives. Dogs in our care are spayed or neutered, microchipped, receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment, and placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent homes. We assist dogs in distress without regard to age, breed or ease of placement. Dogs in the greatest need take priority. Finally, we strive to work with shelters and other rescue and humane organizations to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for homeless dogs.
