Story
HOLA! My name is MAURO and here is some info about me: PHYSICAL INFO: Breed: Mixed Breed (Black Mouth Cur mix) Age: 5 years Gender: Male Weight: 45 lbs (20.3 kg)  Height: 60 cm (paws to top of my head) Length: 79 cm (head to butt) Current Location: MEXICO CITY RESCUE STORY -  ¡Hola! My name is Mauro! I am a warrior in search of love! Some time ago, I was found alone on a highway in Santa Fe, sick and struggling. I had a terrible disease called TVT, and I didn’t know if I’d make it. But then, kind people found me. They didn’t give up on me. They took me in, gave me medicine, and helped me get stronger every day. Now, I’m healthy and ready for a new life full of love! My rescuers think I’m about five years old. I am calm, gentle, and always up for giving and receiving love. I may have had a rough start, but now all I want is to be your loyal friend, to sit by your side and share quiet moments together. I’m just looking for a family to love me, and I’ll give them all my love in return! Will you be the one to give me the home I deserve? I’m ready! TEMPERAMENT - I am an affectionate, calm, gentle and well-behaved dog. If you are looking for a loyal companion, I am ready to give you all my love! Video 1, Video 2, Video 3 ENERGY LEVEL - Low. I am a calm dude and love affection and companionship! Here I am at the dog park, chilling as usual (video). GETS ALONG WITH: Kids – Unknown.  Dogs –  Yes. Here I am with dogs at the dog park (video). Cats – Unknown. PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise. TRAINING: Leash skills – Good. I am gentle and calm and like a leisurely pace. Here I am on a walk (video). I would love an adopter who is happy to continue to work with me on my leash manners. A well-fitted harness and some dedicated leash training will help set me up for success! House trained – Work in progress. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home :) Please Note: WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.  HEALTH NOTES: I am neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records. I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying to Canada. NOTE: Based on the looks of my teeth in photos, I will likely need dental work once adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter. ADOPTION FEE: My adoption fee is $728.00 CAD including tax ($650.00 + 5% GST, 7% PST), which includes my airfare if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver. ------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER: Please visit wcpdogrescue.com to read about West Coast Paws Dog Rescue and its adoption process. Story
Hiya! My name is CANDY and here is some info about me: PHYSICAL INFO: Breed: Black Mouth Cur mix (best guess really!)  Age: Approximately 4 years Gender: Female Weight: 35 lbs (16 kg)  Height: 32 cm (paws to top of my head) Length: 45 cm (head to butt) Current Location: MEXICO CITY RESCUE STORY - My Rescuer found me near a carwash in Mexico City. I was in heat, surrounded by stray dogs, and visibly injured. As you can imagine, I was a bit disoriented and in need of some real help! I'm so thankful for my Rescuer who immediately had me checked out, turns out I had been in an accident (hit by a car, we think) and had a partially healed hip fracture and likely a head injury.  Some kind folks banded together and checked me into a special care facility for pups! Here I received the medical and rehabilitation attention needed to get me back into tip-top shape! Today I am a fully recovered, healthy, and happy gal!  TEMPERAMENT - During my recovery I learned to coexist with other dogs, but I can be a bit reactive at first. While I can gain confidence and become more comfortable over time, I am sometimes uncomfortable in social settings. My Rescuers think I would really thrive in a single dog household.  ENERGY LEVEL - Medium - I’m a medium energy gal! At first meet, I can be shy, but over time I become more comfortable and can be friendly and affectionate. I love humans and getting ALLLL the pets! Like in this video! I am so looking forward to finding my forever home, and getting all the love I deserve. Will that be with you?! GETS ALONG WITH: Kids – Unknown. I don’t have any known experience around kiddos.  Dogs –  Yes, I co-exist with dogs here at the shelter, but I can be a bit guarded. Check out videos of me with other pups here and here. Cats – No. I would not do well in a home with cats, sorry kitties!  PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise. TRAINING: Leash skills – Pretty good, but I will need an adopter who is happy to work with me on my leash manners. A well-fitted harness and some dedicated leash training will help set me up for success! Check out videos of me on a leash here, here, here, and new video here! House trained – Work in progress. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home :) HEALTH NOTES: I am spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records. I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying North. I seem to have a decreased sense of smell, but it doesn't slow me down one bit! Otherwise, I'm all healed up from my pre-rescue injuries. NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter. ADOPTION FEE: My adoption fee is $840.00 CAD including tax (5% GST, 7% PST), which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver. ------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER: Please visit wcpdogrescue.com to read about West Coast Paws Dog Rescue and its adoption process. Story
Young Kia, born May 2025 weighs 25 pounds and likely will be a medium sized dog. Sadly despite her young age, she did not have an easy start. Very young she was dumped, and taken in by nearby residents – but they also didn’t care for her – leaving her full of fleas and ticks. Our sister sanctuary the SPCA PV got word that she was in need and managed to fit her into the shelter. Kia is partier at play time, especially fun with bigger dogs as she has a - rough and tumble play style and very fun to watch! But she’d be just as happy to be your solo adventure girl. Kia thrives on affection and is so excited when guests come to the shelter. She was tested with cats and wasn’t afraid, but also a bit over zealous, so might be too much of a party for many cats. She is warm and bubby, and looking for the affection of a real home. She’s got far too much love and life to be living in a shelter, with only brief snippets of one on one love. In her brief stay in a home she was ok alone, loved to play, and didn’t chew things. Kia is now healthy and vaccinated and is looking for a real family to call her own. Story
Hello!! My name is Poppy (Naia).  Here is some information about me: Breed: Rhodesian Ridgeback Mix Age: 2 years Gender: Female Weight: 65lbs Height: 24" tall Highlights: Beautiful, adventuresome, playful & athletic.   Meet Poppy (now Naia) — A Beautiful Ridgeback Mix with an Adventurous Spirit! At just five months old, Poppy’s life was hanging in the balance — she had landed on the euthanasia list at a busy California shelter. But her story took a wonderful turn when she was rescued just in time and brought to safety in Canada, where she quickly stole hearts with her soulful eyes and gentle nature. For the past year and a half, Poppy — now lovingly called Naia — has been cherished in a loving home. Her adopter describes her as sweet, playful, and incredibly athletic, with a zest for life that shines brightest on the trails. Her absolute favorite pastimes? Mountain biking, hiking or strolling in the forest! Sadly, due to unforeseen family circumstances, her adopter has made the heartbreaking decision to rehome her. This decision comes from a place of love and the desire to ensure Naia has the active, fulfilled life she truly deserves. Naia is a 2 years old Rhodesian Ridgeback mix with a beautiful, lean build and a loving heart. She’s smart and well-trained — she knows sit, stay, come, spin, roll over, and even catch! She bonds closely with her people and has a loyal, affectionate personality. Naia does have some quirks that come with her energetic nature — she’s always been a bit of a whiner for attention(since she was a puppy!), and she has a strong prey drive toward cats and squirrels. She can pull on leash when something catches her eye, but she walks beautifully with her Halti, which has been a big help. She’s best suited to a home with no cats or small animals. Naia is great with other dogs, with a preference for males, and would do best in a home with another dog of equal or larger size. She would thrive in a home with a yard or land where she can stretch her legs and run. Naia has also made great progress with her resource guarding around food — something her adopter has worked on with a trainer and behaviourist. It has improved significantly and no longer occurs regularly. Naia would thrive in a home with someone who: Is experienced and loves the outdoors (walking, hiking, or biking etc) Can offer structure, exercise, and affection Appreciates a loyal, expressive, and athletic companion Naia’s next chapter is waiting — could it be with you? Energy Level:  High I get along with: Dogs: Yes Cats: No Kids: Yes Fears/Prey Drive: Yes. Cats, Squirrels Training: Yes Leash Skills: Yes. Please be prepared to continue with my training. Housetrained: Yes.  Please assist me in learning where to go in my new home. Health: I am healthy, spayed, microchipped & up to date on vaccinations. My adoption fee is $800 CAD plus applicable taxes. Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live. Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you. While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or  Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 - $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs. The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs. Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website. ##1946114##
