Louise and Thelma came in when they were posted on Facebook for free. The local shelter contacted us to see if we could bring them in to find them a safe home. They are bonded and will need to stay together. They would do best in a home with just the two of them. They are super cuddly and would be amazing Netflix binge watching partners! If you have a quiet home and would like to give these special gals a forever home please contact us!

Scout is a wonderful, playful, energetic boy that is wonderful with kids, cats and other dogs. He loves to use his nose and absolutely loves toys. He would do best in an active home where he could go for walks and have another dog to play with. He has been raised with toddlers and several other dogs large and small. Story
Ava is a wonderfully sweet girl. She came in as an owner surrender. She lost her front leg when she was hit by a car at a very young age. She is great with other dogs but does need quieter dogs as she can get overwhelmed by high energy dogs since she can't move very fast. She does have a thyroid condition and will need a home that can make sure she is getting her daily medication to keep it under control. She also needs to be kept on a strict diet to keep her from gaining any extra weight. with only one front leg she can't have any extra weight on those joints. She loves people and is quiet the cuddle bug. She lives with a 6yr old child and does great, she would do best in a home with older children due to her mobility challenges. Story
Copper and Goldie came in on an owner surrender. They are both very sweet and have gotten along with the fosters resident hounds. They are very bonded and depend on each other for security. They are learning to live in the house and are now potty trained. They would benefit from a quiet home where they could get lots of love, give lots of kisses and have room to run. Goldie will need a secure fence as she sometimes tends to take herself for walks! Story
Lizzy is a beautiful 4 yr old female. She was found at a campsite wandering around looking for food. She was moved to a foster who has done an absolutely amazing job with her. Her foster describes her as the bestis girl ever! She is definitely a girls bff! She loves to be wherever you are. She will glady lay her head in your lap. She walks well on a leash and loves to sniff. She also loves being a couch potato. She is not a fan of nail trims but she is very food and treat motivated so much so that she tends to counter surf if left alone. She is very gentle around children and she is cat friendly. She loves other dogs but prefers calmer dogs. If you would be interested in our sweet Lizzy please contact us!

Story
Thelma and Louise came in when the shelter saw a post giving them away for free. They reached out to us to see if we could bring them in. They are currently in foster care but they do need to be in a home where they are the only dogs. They are very sweet girls, easy to get along with and love to cuddle! We would like to find a quiet home for these sweet girls. If you would be interested in giving these two special gals a forever home please let us know!

Story
Nova is an adorable one-year old female (possible) Plott Hound/Shepherd mix who was surrendered by her family on July 17, 2025 because they were no longer able to take care of her. Nova was accompanied by her three male companions (Bo, Bumble Bee, and Marshall) who had also shared her home. Nova has a brown/brindle short smooth coat with a small patch of white on her chest, white toes on her paws, a long tail, and a beautiful face with dark brown eyes, black shading on her muzzle, and tiny 'folded-over' ears. These photos of Nova were taken on July 19th in her large floor crate in the shelter garage since she wasn't quite ready to venture out with a stranger that she didn't realize was in love with her already. This little sweetheart is a very frightened young lady being in an unfamiliar place with people that she doesn't know (and so many other dogs nearby). Our compassionate shelter staff and kennel techs are giving Nova extra TLC (and our Executive Director Amy Rogers was taking Nova under her 'angel wings' when we saw Nova snuggled up next to Amy on the sofa in the lobby of our shelter). Nova is a petite young lady who weighs just 26 lbs. Update: Nova went home with a wonderful foster family on July 22nd who opened up her home and heart to this scared overgrown puppy ... And planned to shower her with love in order to help Nova overcome her fears and help her with social skills in order to find the perfect home. The foster family's dog was apparently doing her part to make Nova feel welcome and pushed open the door to show Nova where they could go outside for an adventure .. The family dog came back, but Nova was new to the area and couldn't find her way back home. Many compassionate folks have been searching for Nova but, as of July 25th, Nova has not been found. HSOV and MOV Drone Workz along with many volunteers have been looking for this tiny dog (and a trap has been set in hopes of bringing her to the safety). Nova is missing in the Silver Globe Road area in Washington County Ohio. If you have seen Nova or know her whereabouts, please contact the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley, 90 Mt Tom Road, Marietta Ohio by calling (740) 373-5959. Nova will be spayed before being officially adopted by her new family.

Ruger is a handsome 2-year old male Plott Hound mix who was surrendered by his owner on April 7, 2026. This good-looking guy has a dark brown/brindle short smooth coat with a large white bib on his chest, white paws, a long tail, and a beautiful Hound face with black shading, expressive brown eyes, a black button nose, and large floppy ears. Ruger may look familiar to some of our HSOV volunteers/Facebook followers since he originally came to our shelter on September 24, 2024. Since he was not reclaimed, Ruger was neutered on March 4, 2025 and was also given rabies vaccine. Ruger spent the next seven months in our shelter, and we were happy for Ruger when he was adopted by his new family on October 7, 2025. Unfortunately, Ruger was returned to HSOV by his heartbroken family on April 7, 2026 because of his playful nipping and the possibility of Ruger nipping at young children. Ruger would likely do best in a home with an adult human family and without children~ His family reported that Ruger is housetrained and that he was good with their two cats after the cats got used to being around Ruger .. And they often slept together. These updated pictures of Ruger were taken when HSOV Kennel Tech Emily Beaver accompanied him for outdoor photos on April 11, 2026. Ruger was happy to be with Emily and was quite playful when he initially ran laps around her before 'sitting pretty' and posing for pictures. Ruger has matured into a big boy! He currently weighs 92 lbs and is very energetic/strong on a leash.

Ruger is a handsome 7-month old male Plott Hound mix who was surrendered by his family to a Washington County Ohio Deputy Sheriff on September 24, 2024. Ruger has a dark brown/brindle short smooth coat with a large white bib on his chest, white paws, a long tail, and an adorable face with black shading, expressive brown eyes, a black button nose, and large floppy ears. This young man has a sweet, outgoing personality and was quite playful when HSOV Kennel Tech Emily Beaver accompanied him for his outdoor photo session on October 13, 2024. Ruger seemed interested in giving chase to some of our HSOV outdoor shelter mascot kitties who were nearby during his photo session ... But we've learned that Ruger is actually good with cats. Ruger weighs 51 lbs and walks fairly well on a leash, Ruger had an unfortunate bite incident when he bit a young child in his home and was placed on the mandatory 10-day bite quarantine in our shelter as a result. His family did not believe that Ruger was to blame but we have taken the precaution of advising that he should not be placed in a home with small/young children. Ruger will be neutered before being adopted by his new family (a requirement for HSOV adoptions to be finalized). He could be fostered with an approved HSOV foster/adoption application. Update: Ruger was neutered on March 4, 2025 and was also given rabies vaccine. Happy Update: Ruger was adopted on October 7, 2025. Unfortunately, Ruger was returned to HSOV on April 7, 2026 because of his playful nipping and the possibility of Ruger nipping at young children. Ruger would likely do best in a home with his adult human family~
