Story
Meet Penelope (aka Penny) 3-year-old Border Collie mix | Spayed Female Penelope, lovingly called Penny, is a smart, loyal, and people-loving girl who is looking for a fresh start in a home that’s a good fit for her needs. Penny adores people and has never met a stranger she didn’t want to be friends with (though men wearing hats may earn a few cautious barks at first ). She is housebroken, crate trained, leash trained, and does wonderfully staying home alone during the day. At night, she happily settles into her crate and sleeps soundly. She rides well in the car, listens when redirected, and is described as very obedient and eager to please. Penny has lived indoors and truly thrives as a companion dog who is included in daily life. With kids, Penny is affectionate and friendly, but because she’s a bigger, enthusiastic girl, she does best with older or dog-savvy children who can respect her space and energy. She may be a bit pushy with smaller kids if not supervised. Penny generally does well with other dogs, but after a recent stressful incident with a smaller, persistently growly dog, it’s clear she would do best in a home with careful dog introductions or possibly as the only dog. She can be redirected from chasing cats and listens well, but a cat-savvy home would be ideal. The good stuff: Fully vetted & spayed House & crate trained Loves people Obedient and responsive Healthy and well cared for Penny’s current family is even willing to foster her while she waits for the right forever home — a testament to how loved she is. If you’re looking for a devoted, intelligent companion who just needs the right environment to shine, Penny might be your girl Apply to adopt Penelope here:https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=1707539&name=Penelope+ ##1707539##

Story
PLEASE SHARE FOR A HOME – Located in Hesperus, CO Frick is trying so hard. This sweet one-year-old Border Collie mix wants love and kindness more than anything. Part of her longs to trust… but her past taught her to survive instead. She’s spent her life defending herself from other animals and from people—never knowing a soft couch, gentle hands, or what it feels like to truly be safe. After coming to Denkai Animal Sanctuary from a hoarding situation, Frick is beginning to learn a new way of living—one where she is cared for, protected, and loved. Every day, she takes brave little steps forward. Every day, she shows us just how much potential she has. Frick will do best with a patient, compassionate adopter or foster who understands shy dogs and is willing to continue her socialization at her pace. With consistency, kindness, and time, this girl is going to blossom into an incredibly loyal companion. If you can be the one to show Frick that the world can be safe and loving, she’s ready to meet you. Apply to adopt or foster atwww.denkaisanctuary.org/adopt One kind home can change everything. Please share to help Frick find hers. ##2612040##

Story
Injured, Afraid, and Still Wagging His Tail   Bear is one of our most recent rescues, and when we picked him up, he was badly injured. While his physical wounds have healed, his emotional ones will take a bit longer.   When Bear first arrived, he was absolutely terrified. He truly believed that everything around him was going to hurt him. At that time, he was badly injured from trauma caused by other dogs before coming into our care — not the dogs he is with now — and he was kept separately when we rescued him.   Today, Bear’s physical wounds have healed, and while he’s still learning to trust, the fear no longer defines every moment. He’s beginning to understand that he is safe. And every single day, despite what he’s been through, Bear greets us with a wagging tail — a quiet but powerful sign of hope and resilience.   Bear is currently being fostered with our veterinarian, Dr. Bane, and her family. For the first time, he is learning what it means to live in a home filled with warmth, kindness, and love. He’s discovering that gentle hands exist, that rest is safe, and that not every interaction ends in pain.   This boy has the kindest face. You can see it in his eyes — an incredible soul who wants nothing more than to be loved. Bear will do best with a patient, understanding adopter who will allow him the time and space to continue building confidence at his own pace. In return, he promises loyalty, quiet companionship, and a heart that is learning how to trust again.   If you believe you could be the safe place Bear has been waiting for, please consider applying to adopt him.   Apply to adopt Bear: https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=2612046&name=Bear   Let’s make sure the rest of Bear’s story is filled with love. ##2612046##

Story
We call him “The Regulator” for a reason Please meet Burglar, and help us share this special boy in hopes of finding him the right home. Burglar is the self-appointed protector of his buddies. He thinks he’s tough and intimidating—but don’t be fooled. Underneath that brave exterior is a sappy, soft-hearted goof who absolutely cracks us up. He has allowed handling and being carried, and while he isn’t leash-trained yet, we believe starting him with a harness will be the best way to build confidence and trust as he continues to learn. Once he feels safe, this boy is incredibly smart and eager. Burglar is part of a group of dogs who were surrendered to Denkai after their owner could no longer care for them. He is approximately one year old and a Border Collie / Australian Shepherd mix—so brains and energy come standard. What Burglar needs: • A securely fenced yard or a home with large acreage • An experienced, patient adopter willing to continue his socialization with new people • No children at this time • Likely dog-friendly, with proper introductions Burglar has so much potential and will thrive with someone who understands working breeds and is willing to invest time, structure, and love. If you think you might be the right match for this “Regulator,” please fill out an adoption application at: www.denkaisanctuary.org/adopt Let’s help this tough-guy-softie find his person ##2612043##
