Story
Molly is an incredibly sweet dog. I took her in after my mom died, wanting to keep her in the family. I don’t have a yard, but I moved to a place with a very large patio, and I take her on walks 4 times a day. I talk to her a lot throughout the day, and she gets plenty of attention and love. However, it has become clear that she needs more. She is bored and discontent here. It’s just me, and she needs more company/activity. She needs a dog companion, and maybe a home with kids or more people. She seems to be perpetually in ‘wait’ mode, and is only happy when we are out outside, where she can ‘hunt’ rabbits & squirrels. Molly is great at laying quietly for hours. She rarely barks, unless she thinks she will catch the squirrel. She doesn’t slobber, doesn’t jump on people, has no aggression at all. She’s a pretty passive dog. She loves belly rubs, and she loves rolling in the grass, scratching her back. She has very short hair, so shedding is very minimal - really only on her dog bed.

Story
Meet Frack Frack is proof that even the most overlooked souls can begin to shine. One of the dogs rescued from a recent hoarding case, Frack has been slowly learning what it means to feel safe—and she is doing so well. This sweet girl is already showing her affectionate side, offering kisses and beginning to connect with people in a really beautiful way. But Frack is still on her journey, and she needs the right home to continue it. What You Should Know About Frack: She is incredibly sweet and loving once she feels safe (yes… expect kisses!) She does well with other dogs outside of her original pack She has worn a collar, but is not yet leash trained She will need continued socialization, not forced training Frack will need at least a month to truly settle in, decompress, and bond with her new family. This is not a dog who will walk into your home and immediately feel comfortable—but if you give her time, patience, and understanding, she will absolutely come around. No kids — fast movements and high energy are still overwhelming for her Frack needs a home that understands how to go slow… to let her build confidence at her own pace… and to celebrate the small wins along the way. The reward? A deeply loyal, affectionate dog who chooses to trust you—and that kind of bond is everything. Site visit required Follow-ups required If you’re ready to give Frack the time and love she deserves, we are here to guide you every step of the way. Apply to adopt: www.denkaisanctuary.org/adopt Because Frack isn’t just looking for a home…She’s looking for someone who will truly see her. ##2612041##

Good with dogs,
Story
Meet Blackie One look into Blackie’s eyes, and you can feel it… that quiet, gentle soul just waiting to be loved. Blackie is one of eight dogs we recently took in from a hoarding case. Her world was small, unfamiliar, and overwhelming—and her recovery has been slow, but meaningful. She has come as far as she can with us, and now she needs something more… a home. A very special home. Blackie is not a “typical” adoption. She is a heart project. She will need a person who understands that what she needs right now is socialization, not training. Someone who knows how to let a dog set the pace. Someone who understands that trust is earned, not forced. The good news? Once you gain that trust—and we truly believe you will—she is going to blossom. What Blackie Needs: A calm, patient home willing to go at her pace An experienced adopter familiar with shy or undersocialized dogs Slow, thoughtful introductions to any resident dogs (she may do well with the right match) No cats or young children (fast movements are still very scary for her) Blackie cannot be cornered, rushed, or pushed. She needs someone with patience, compassion, and the willingness to meet her where she is—every single day. In return, you’ll get something incredibly special: the chance to watch a dog discover love, safety, and life for the very first time. We will be here every step of the way to guide you, and: A site visit will be required Follow-ups will be part of her journey to ensure success If you feel called to be the person who changes Blackie’s life… please reach out. Apply to adopt: www.denkaisanctuary.org/adopt Because dogs like Blackie don’t just need homes…They need humans who understand them. ##2612039##

Story
Ava is an active, driven dog who thrives when she has a job to do and room to move. She lives well with other dogs but can feel uncomfortable when meeting new ones and will benefit from slow, structured introductions. With the right outlet and guidance, she’ll be a focused and rewarding companion. Ava`s adoption comes with a complimentary session with a member of HSPPR`s behavior team.

Story
Hi I'm Buddy! I originally came from a rough situation. I was chained up all my life until I came here. I was adopted out but unfortunetly am a bit of an escape artist when it comes to fences so I had to be returned. My foster family says I would do best living on acreage but I could also be leash walked. I get along great with other dogs and would love another dog friend to play with! I am housebroken and a sweet boy just needing someone who can keep up with my activity needs.  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2602921##
