Story
Name: Cruise Age: 2 years Breed: Border Collie mix Size: 53.8 lbs Special Needs: Heartworm positive (low) Adoption Application: https://forms.gle/nuKXoMu6gjS5DhFm8 Contact: transport@hssm.org Meet Cruise! He's one cool cat. At 2.5 years old and about 50 pounds, Cruise is the kind of dog people dream about: housebroken, well-mannered, knows how to sit, loves people, and blends right into family life like he’s always belonged. He’s just a REALLY GOOD DOG. The kind you meet once and think, “Wow… this guy is special.” But Cruise hasn’t had the smoothest ride. He was surrendered once by an owner who simply didn’t want him. Then he was adopted, only to be returned because the adopter’s circumstances changed - no fault of his own. So now he’s been to the shelter not once, but twice, and while we take incredible care of our animals, no dog should ever have to see the inside of a shelter two times. Still, Cruise hasn’t let any of it dull his shine. He’s steady, sweet, affectionate, and just a cool, easygoing guy. The kind of dog who would happily Cruise right into your heart and stay there. He’s neutered, up to date on his basics, and ready to roll. Cruise is heartworm positive, but don’t let that stop you — our Wellness Clinic offers discounted treatment, and he’s worth every bit of it. And here’s something extra special: A member of the community took Cruise out on a Doggy Day Out, fell in love with him, and was so moved by how wonderful he is that they sponsored his entire adoption fee just to help him find the home he deserves. If you’re looking for a loyal companion, a best friend, a good hang, and an all-around great dog… Cruise is your guy. He’s ready for his forever family — for real this time.

Story
Tippy is a handsome, healthy, and friendly deaf Border Collie mix. To know Tippy, is to love him. He will thrive as a part of an attentive home environment with a safe and suitable area for Tippy to exercise. Preferably a secure fenced in yard where he can play fetch, his passion. And never off leash in public of course as he is deaf. I adopted Tippy from a rescue that is no longer functioning. So I am looking to place him on my own. The reason that I’m rehoming Tippy is that I have recently retired and I’m moving out of state soon. As a result , I’m unable to take Tippy with me. He’s house trained, kennel trained and Tippy really loves car rides! He’s incredibly observant! He has not had leash training but generally does well on a leash in my experience with him. Tippy knows hand signals and will watch you and your hands for direction. Tippy is up to date on vaccines and preventatives. He just had his teeth cleaned also. Thank you very much…

Story
Minnie is a 5-year-old Border Collie mix weighing about 40 pounds. She’s incredibly sweet at heart but also cautious, so she needs a patient, experienced adopter who will give her the time and guidance she needs to continue building trust. She’s been making regular outings to public places and has done well meeting new people. Minnie thrives when she can be close to her person—whether she’s cuddled up in bed or snuggled on the couch. This closeness helps her feel secure and strengthens her bond more quickly. Until she’s comfortable in her new home, she does best when kept on leash with her person as she learns the routine. She enjoys going for walks or even short jogs. Her ideal home will provide confident, gentle leadership. It’s important that a male figure in the household builds a strong bond with her. Minnie will need to be your one and only canine pal in the home. She does well with cats and could live with respectful, dog-savvy children over age 8 who understand her boundaries. Minnie is house-trained, walks nicely on leash, and hasn’t shown any destructive behavior. Like many Border Collies, she sometimes shows her herding instincts by trying to “correct” fast movements. She’s learning that the world isn’t so scary, but she’ll thrive with an adopter who can offer steady reassurance and structure. Minnie has so much love to give—she just needs the right person to help her fully blossom into the happy, loyal, and snuggly companion she’s meant to be. Her minimum adoption fee is $200 plus a $15 rabies registration fee (for McLean County residents, if 4 months or older). She has been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives. If you are interested in this pet, please fill out the brief Adopter Survey by hitting "Apply for Adoption" on the profile. After we review your completed survey, we will contact you by phone or email within three business days. We're primarily a volunteer organization, so we appreciate your patience. Please note- Out of respect for our volunteers and staff, we are closed on Sundays and Mondays and will not be processing any applications on that day. Do get back to us right away when we call or email regarding an application so that we can quickly connect using the process below: Select a pet and submit an online adoption survey. A PCH adoption counselor will contact potential adopters within three business days (PCH cannot guarantee any pet's availability, but we make every effort to accommodate adopters with a reply and possible alternative suggestions). Counselor and client will then have a conversation to answer questions, discuss any medical needs for the pet and determine the suitability of a match (if necessary, we may opt to put adopters in touch with foster parents). After a match is made, clients will be asked to sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee online through our secure payment system *Please see our modified no-risk return policy. (below) The PCH adoption counselor will then set up a specific appointment time and location. Adopters should bring a pet carrier and leash to pick up. Adult pets will be wearing a collar. It is important that clients arrive on time, neither early nor late. If your adoption is scheduled at Pet Central Helps!: Upon arrival inside the Crossroads Center complex (360 Wylie Drive), look for the black Pet Central Helps! semi-trailer, which is right outside of our facility (Suite 720). Park in the parking lot and enter the facility. A PCH representative will greet you and show you to the adoption room. Your new pet will be handed to you. We will take a "Happy Adoption Day photo with your pet and family. If your adoption is scheduled at PetSmart: Park in the PetSmart Parking lot and enter the store. We will be set up just inside the store entrance. Let us know you are here to pick up your pet! A PCH representative will confirm your information and hand you your pet. We will take a "Happy Adoption Day photo with your pet and family. PCH supports a 21-day no-fault return policy in which adopters are given the opportunity to find a better match. If we are not able to provide advice/tools to keep a pet in the home we offer these options: Exchange for a pet that may be a better match** Receive a refund minus a $40 processing fee** With this approach, we can often turn mismatches into opportunities!
