I’m Josie—but all my friends call me JoJo, and I really hope you’ll be my next best friend. I’m about 1.5 years old, weigh a perfectly huggable 43 pounds, and I’m told I’m a border collie/spaniel mix—which I think just means I’m extra smart and extra sweet! My past is a little fuzzy, but I do remember being all by myself in a big city park. I was so brave, living out there for almost a week and even curling up to sleep in a kind stranger’s yard. That’s when a lovely lady scooped me up and took me to a shelter where everyone was super nice. Now I’m in a foster home with MoKan Border Collie Rescue, learning how to be a Very Good Girl—and guess what? I’m really good at it! Let me tell you a little about myself: I love people—but I can be shy at first. Sometimes I bark or growl a little when I meet new folks, but give me 20 seconds and I’ll be asking for cuddles. Promise. I know “sit,” “down,” and “wait” (although waiting is kinda hard when you’re this excited about life). I’m also house trained and crate trained, and I never beg for food at the table. I’m polite like that. I’m a car ride enthusiast! I love sticking my nose to the window and watching the world go by. I adore running big zoomy laps in the yard. It’s the best feeling! I’m not super into toys yet—except for my jolly ball, which I LOVE. I could play soccer with it all day. I’m still learning how to bring it back, but my foster mom says I’m making progress! I eat my meals in my crate like a little lady, and I take treats ever so gently. I’m not possessive of my stuff, either. I live with two foster dog siblings. I really like my foster brother—we zoom around the yard together. My foster sister and I mostly get along, but we had one little disagreement, so I’d do best with the right doggie companion—preferably someone confident and kind who can help me build my own confidence. I haven’t met any kids or cats here, but the shelter folks said I liked them when I was there. I did meet a fox, and I must say, I wasn’t a fan. Same goes for ducks and probably chickens—I get a little too excited around small, fluttery creatures. Loud noises don’t bother me much. People sometimes target practice near our foster home, and I just carry on being my happy self. I have one hard “no”: asparagus. Yuck. Soft things? Yes please! Couches, beds, blankets… if it’s fluffy, I’m in. I got a bath and, even though it wasn’t my favorite thing, I stood still like a champ. I’m not a sprinkler or water-loving dog, but I’ll gladly enjoy a sunny patch of grass nearby while you splash around! I’m spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and up to date on all my preventatives. I’m healthy and ready to start my next adventure—with you! I’m still a little shy in new places and around new people, so I’d love a forever family who can be patient, gentle, and help me build up my confidence. I also need a secure fenced yard to keep me safe from all the exciting critters out there that I really want to chase. So… are you the person who’s going to love me forever? Because I’ve got a big heart and so much love to give—and I can’t wait to share it with my perfect match. I’m being fostered just north of Kansas City. If you think we might be a good fit, please fill out an application! Love (and tail wags), Jojo   Josie is being fostered in the North KCMO area.Click here to watch a video of Josie (Adoption Pending).Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 4, 2025, 12:29 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in adopting, read about our Adoption Process and complete an Adoption Application on the Mo-Kan website.  A Mo-Kan application must be filled out to begin the process.(Sending an "Inquiry" via Petfinder does not constitute an application.)   Introducing Xena — a stunning and loyal Border Collie mix with a heart as big as her bright eyes. At around 1 year old and 35 pounds, this sweet girl has already overcome so much. Found as a stray in Oklahoma — likely abandoned — Xena is now thriving in foster care and ready for the love and security of her forever home. What Makes Xena Special? Xena’s leash manners are impeccable. She walks calmly by your side with a loose leash — no pulling, no tugging — just quiet companionship and eager attention. For anyone who dreams of stress-free strolls with their pup, Xena is a dream come true. Personality & Energy Xena is affectionate, intelligent, and eager to please. With a moderate energy level, she loves playing fetch (and is working on “drop it” like a champ). She’s very treat-motivated, which makes training fun and productive. She already knows “sit” and “down”. Her loyalty is unmatched — she’s her foster mom’s shadow, always nearby and ready to participate in whatever’s going on. Xena would do best in a home without small dogs, as she tends to play too rough for them. However, she can get along well with larger dogs who can match her energy and play style. She’s also great with kids! Just note that her excitement can lead to some jumping, so a home with older children would be ideal as she continues to work on her manners. The Perfect Home for Xena Xena would flourish in a home that offers: - Lots of attention and affection - Daily exercise and mental stimulation - Structure, patience, and love - Possibly a large dog companion to romp and play with If you’re looking for a loyal companion with leash skills to envy and a heart full of love, Xena is ready to meet you. His long, soft coat is a beautiful mixture of red, brown & black, with patches of white on his head, face & neck, along with his white sock feet. His unique brindle markings continue on his long, full tail that he happily wags frequently. Redford came into MoKan as an unwanted stray, and those of us who have been in his presence simply cannot understand why. The sweetest personality accompanies Redford’s dashing looks, and he is all about pleasing his person. He has learned ‘sit’ and ‘down’ and is very mindful when his foster mom gives him direction. There is no doubt Redford would respond well to any type of training, and he is a big fan of rewards. Although he is not very fond of his crate yet, with a few words of encouragement over time he stops whining and settles in. So far, there have been no accidents inside the house, and he is given numerous opportunities for bio breaks throughout the day and frequent yard time. He is learning to walk on a leash and seems to enjoy exploring, but right now we do a lot of zig zagging along the way. Redford plays very nicely with his two foster dog siblings who are both smaller in size, and he would likely love to have a furry sibling. Although he has not exhibited any prey drive, per se, Redford does seem easily annoyed by the presence of his foster kitty cat siblings, so he might do best in a home without cats or small critters. Redford is a 50 pound extremely loving two year-old with a lot of puppy playfulness but not the destructive behaviors that sometime accompany a puppy. He is very content to play with toys, balls, and gnaw on teething bones. He puts a paw on each shoulder and gives hugs to his foster mom, and he is always thrilled to receive a belly rub. He thinks brushing his hair is a game, with the winner being the one who captures the brush…but we’ll keep working on that. Given that Redford has only recently discovered what it’s like to be in a loving home, it would probably be best if he is not left alone for extended periods of time. Redford is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and receives monthly preventatives. He is being fostered in the St. Louis, MO area. This good-looking fella is ready to find his happily forever with a family of his own. Could that be you? Maybe? Spanky and his gang had a dog named Pete or Petey, he was their constant companion. Meet the updated version of Petey. This compact black and white bundle of joy, wakes up happy smiling and wagging his tail every morning. Petey is a people person - he loves being with his people. He is well behaved and a good listener. Petey has a "people pleaser" personality, making him submissive and sensitive to correction because he doesn't want to disappoint anyone. Petey is cautious around new people but once he knows you are a safe person, he quickly becomes your best friend. Petey loves going everywhere you go - running errands no problem he will wait in the car patiently. Petey is well behaved in the car or in public. Petey loves playing with his foster siblings, playing with toys, running a lap or two around the yard and (of course) being all cute and cuddly on the couch. He loves going for walks and meeting new people. Petey sits perfectly by your side or will lay down and wait. He is crate trained, housebroken, leash trained, "sits" on command and gives a paw for a "shake". Petey is learning "lay down" and "wait". Petey is a neutered 29 month old male, fully vetted, heartworm negative and on prevention. If you are looking for a cute and cuddly companion Petey is your guy. He will never let you down and will give you unconditional love for a lifetime. She weighs a lovable 45 pounds and has the most beautiful coat. Blizzard can be high energy, but as long as she has an outlet, she is the perfect companion. She will never venture far from her human friends, and has a good recall. She enjoys wading in ponds, running with her doggy friends and exploring. Blizz has been lucky enough to spend time with a professional trainer where she has learned SO much! She gets very excited but is learning how to control her excitement and not jump on people. She has a solid “sit, down, and place” command. She’s good with other dogs, but does not like other dogs getting in her face. Because we want to be sure it’s the right match, interested applicants will need to speak with her trainer to make sure it’s a perfect fit. Blizzard walks well on a leash, is treat and food, motivated, and eager to learn more! She is not good with cats and small animals and young children make her nervous with their fast movements. She loves exercise and will need this daily, such as long or frequent walks. She would  be a good running or hiking partner, and is up for almost any adventure! She’s also happy to cuddle up for a good belly rub! She is spayed and up-to-date on all of her vaccines. She is heartworm negative and on monthly preventatives.
