Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Courtesy PostCourtesy Post.  See contact info at the end of bio. Mia is an 11-year-old, 35-pound purebred Border Collie looking for the right home to spend her golden years. Adopted eight years ago, Mia has been a loyal adventure partner and beloved companion ever since. She’s incredibly smart, affectionate, and still has plenty of Border Collie drive and enthusiasm for life. Mia thrives when she has a job to do. She loves training, playing ball or frisbee, going for walks and runs, and joining her people on adventures. Her previous family worked with her in obedience, agility, and scent work — all activities she truly enjoys and excels at. She has good house manners, rides wonderfully in the car, and has even earned glowing reviews during Airbnb stays. She’d happily be your shadow and go wherever you go. Some of Mia’s favorite things: • Hiking trails and outdoor adventures • Ball and frisbee time • Early mornings • Being close to her people • Having structure, purpose, and enrichment A few quirks: • Trash trucks are highly suspicious • Water is not her thing • She occasionally appoints herself the “fun police” when play gets too rowdy As Mia has gotten older, she has developed some anxiety and has become more sensitive to chaos and overstimulation. In her current home, she sometimes struggles with the energy of a younger dog and can display strong herding instincts during excited play. Because of this, Mia would do best in a calm, structured home without small loud children or high-energy dogs. She may bark, lunge, or nip when she feels things are out of control. She is passive around cats. Mia is house-trained, does well loose-leash walking, and can be trusted free in the home when left alone. She is up to date on vaccines, flea/tick and heartworm prevention, and has no known health concerns. She currently takes fluoxetine and trazodone for anxiety support. Her previous family loves her deeply and is heartbroken to make this decision, but they know Mia deserves a home that can better meet her needs and help her feel secure and successful. In the right environment, she will be an incredibly devoted companion. Mia is located in the Wichita area. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in adopting, read about our Adoption Process and complete an Adoption Application on the Mo-Kan website.  A Mo-Kan application must be filled out to begin the process.(Sending an "Inquiry" via Petfinder does not constitute an application.)   Copper is a 5 year old, high energy 48 pound purebred border collie who recently lost the loving home he had since puppyhood. This gorgeous blue merle boy came into rescue and hasn’t looked back. His sweet sister, Charlie, is in a separate Mo-Kan foster home. Copper loves people of all ages, especially children. He is not good with cats. Copper was used to being an outdoor dog and is learning that there are different rules indoors. He is very puppylike: perpetually happy, curious, and runs everywhere instead of walking. Copper responds best to gentle touch and calmly delivered commands. He is a blank slate, and eager to please! He is crate trained and runs in preemptively to get a treat, which he takes treats very gently. “Copper, come!” appears to be his favorite command. He thinks he is a lap dog and is learning to sit for affection instead of jumping up for it. Copper walks moderately well on a leash and is learning to stay to one side of his person. He enjoys outings to our local dog park for the people who pet him as much as the dogs he runs with. He is very skilled at reading and reacting appropriately to new dog friends and takes their feedback well. Copper would do best in a home with a consistent routine. Having been an outdoor dog after his first year of life, he is re-learning potty training. He is crated during the workday with a mid-day dogsitter break while his foster is at work and keeps his kennel clean. He loves being outside, running in a yard and wrestling with his 55 pound housemate, so a fenced yard and a dog companion are preferred. Copper is not good with cats and is hyper focused on chickens. A home without cats or caged small pets is a must. If he sounds like a great addition to your family, complete an adoption application on the Mo-Kan website. Copper is being fostered in the Kansas City area.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 23, 2026, 8:06 am

Chou Chou is a 5 year old tri-color Border Collie with a loving & playful personality. He’s extremely smart, focused, and high energy. Playtime is his absolute favorite part of the day. Is there anything better? Not according to Chou Chou!  Balls, discs, sticks, anything is game. He’s even proficient at carrying two toys at once! Someone with breed experience that can keep up with his energy would be ideal. When toys are out of the question, he is a big love bug. He enjoys giving hugs, receiving belly rubs, and serving as a foot warmer. He loves all people but is best suited for a home where he is the only dog. Chou Chou would do best in a home with older or dog savvy children. Chou Chou is potty trained, crate trained, and enjoys car rides. He gets so excited to jump in for a ride! He’s a good eater and is learning to work for treats. He has exhibited resource guarding over his food once. Chou Chou enjoys walks but is working to improve his leash manners. Chou Chou is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. He is ready to find an active, breed-savvy home to call his own. Finn is a striking black-and-white Border Collie, around 1–2 years old and 50 lbs, who came into rescue as a stray. When he arrived, he was dealing with a significant skin infection and patchy hair loss, but with treatment and care, his coat is growing back beautifully and now shines with a healthy, glossy finish. Finn is a medium-high energy guy who ’ s looking for an adopter with Border Collie (or similar herding breed) experience. It ’ s clear he didn ’ t have much guidance early on and likely had to entertain himself, so he came to us as a bit of a blank slate. The good news? He ’ s incredibly smart, eager to learn, and thriving with structure and training. He ’ s currently living with two older female Border Collies in foster, and he absolutely loves having playmates to run, chase, and play ball with in the yard. He ’ d do great with another playful dog, but could also be happy as a solo pup as long as he gets plenty of engagement and activity. He loves fetch (still negotiating the “ bring it all the way back” part when playing one-on-one!) and plays gently, taking corrections well from his foster sisters. Finn hasn ’ t been tested with cats, but he is VERY interested in squirrels — so a home without small critters is likely best. He adores people and is learning good manners like keeping all four paws on the floor when greeting (he just gets so excited!). Because of his enthusiasm, a home with children 7+ would be the best fit. Training-wise, Finn has made amazing progress. He ’ s crate trained and happily trots in at mealtime to remind you it ’ s time to eat. He already knows sit, down, look, and come, and is working on wait and stay. He LOVES training sessions and is very treat-motivated. Walks are one of his favorite things, and he ’ s continuing to improve his leash skills while taking in all the sights and sounds of city life. Despite his playful energy, Finn does have an off switch. He ’ s happy to settle down, snuggle up on the floor, and shower you with hugs and kisses during movie time. (He ’ s still practicing keeping those four paws on the floor, so no furniture privileges just yet!) He also enjoys chewing on bones and playing with tough squeaky toys. Finn would thrive with an active family who will include him in adventures like hiking, camping, and long walks. He may even excel at activities like scent work. He ’ ll need continued positive reinforcement training to keep building his confidence and channel his intelligence in the right direction. Daily physical and mental exercise will be key to keeping this bright boy happy. Finn is up to date on vaccines, on preventatives, and neutered.  Does Finn sound like the perfect fit for your family? Apply to adopt him at MoKanbcrescue.org and come meet your new best friend! He ’ s currently being fostered in the Kansas City area.Click here to watch a video of Finn (2026).Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 23, 2026, 8:06 am

She still likes people, but needs a warm up period to accept them.  Bunny prefers fetching the dogs that are fetching the ball, getting in trouble with them when she boops  their tails on the way by.  Her super powers are still intelligence and high energy.  Three times a day, she must do her "sonic boom" run where she flies around that backyard faster than any dog we have ever had.  She is learning tricks as we play outside.  Bunny is especially fond of the "up" command, when she will race from almost anywhere to jump up on a big hay bale.  She sits up there like a princess.  Her recall has gone from decent to amazing. Favorite food is almost anything that doesn't eat her first.  Peanut butter has her flying to her crate, where she runs in and does a dance, waiting for her stuffed kong.  Bunny loves water, especially if it is muddy.  She really gets hot with all her running and will splash down in a puddle or the wading pool, cool off, and race off again.  She is quite affectionate and makes sure she gets her fair share of scratches.  As you can see from this photo, she has a hard crash off switch. She is highly motivated by food, toys, praise, and affection. Because of her exuberant energy level, Bunny would do best in a home with older children only.  Bunny will need a companion dog to play and work with. Bunny is spayed, up to date on all vaccinations, and ready to find an active, dog-savvy home that will embrace her energy, intelligence, and loving nature. If you’re looking for a devoted companion who’s always up for fun and adventure, Bunny may be your perfect match! Story
Beautiful Billy is a happy lady with a goofy grin and a sweet spirit. Although sometimes she is a little shy in new situations, a few scratches and a treat will quickly win your way to her heart. Billy loves to cuddle and gives very sweet kisses too. She has done well so far with the other dogs in her foster home, and is even ignoring the cats. She is also very tolerant of the two young children in her foster family. It is obvious that Billy has been someone’s beloved family member- she is house trained, and knows to go in her kennel for quiet time. She rides quietly in the car with no issues, and has excellent leash manners. To be honest, her foster family can’t find anything wrong with her- except maybe she sheds a little too much! This girl is ready to walk right into your home and settle in like she’s been there forever. It will be a very lucky family who decides that Billy is the one for them!

Story
Daisy Mae is a sweet girl. Sadly she was abandoned by her former family with her 2 dog friends. In her previous home, she reportedly did well with everyone. She definitely needs a busy home and will do best if she's not alone. Her foster says "Daisy Mae is an incredibly sweet, affectionate girl who loves being with her people. She forms strong bonds and will happily follow you from room to room, always wanting to be part of whatever you're doing. She is fully potty trained, well behaved in the home, and loves to cuddle up for naps and relaxation. Daisy Mae gets along wonderfully with other dogs and currently lives peacefully with a senior dog. She has shown friendly interest in every dog she has met. She also loves people of all ages, including men, women, and children. She has a playful, energetic side but is also excellent at matching the energy of her family. If you're active, she's ready for adventure, and if you're relaxing on the couch, she'll happily settle down beside you and fall asleep. She enjoys car rides, knows basic commands such as sit, and loves swimming. Daisy Mae prefers not to be left alone for long periods and would thrive in a home where she can spend plenty of time with her family. She can be strong on leash at the start of walks, but once she settles down, she does very well and enjoys longer outings. If you're looking for a loyal, loving companion who wants to be your best friend, Daisy Mae may be the perfect match!"
