Story
Meet Jake Jake is a 3 year old Border Collie mix with a heart full of love and a spirit built for adventure. Jake can be quite shy at first but he warms up quickly! At around 50 pounds, he’s the perfect mix of active and affectionate. He is also a protector, and an alert barker. Jake loves hard and attaches quickly to his person. Jake takes a few minutes to warm up to new people, but once he does, he’s gentle, affectionate, and loyal. This sweet, smart guy knows several commands including “sit,” “shake,” “come,” “sit up,” and “go lay down.” Jake walks beautifully on a leash, walks are truly his love language and 100% his favorite thing to do. He’s lived with a small dog in his foster home and is respectful when his play attempts are declined. He’s also been in another foster home with a medium sized dog he loves to play with and a cat whose boundaries he respects! We think the best home for Jake would be with a playful dog, possibly a cat friend and definitely would love to have a fenced yard and someone active that will walk him daily. If you’re looking for a faithful sidekick who will happily join you on life’s adventures and then snuggle up by your side at the end of the day, Jake might just be your perfect match. Apply to meet Jake! https://unchainedmelodies.org/adopt/ All UMDR dogs are up to date on vaccinations and preventatives, spayed/neutered and microchipped. *No Out of State Adoptions *No Apartment Living for this boy *No electric fencing

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in adopting, read about our Adoption Process and complete an Adoption Application on the Mo-Kan website.  A Mo-Kan application must be filled out to begin the process.(Sending an "Inquiry" via Petfinder does not constitute an application.)   Copper is a 5 year old, high energy 48 pound purebred border collie who recently lost the loving home he had since puppyhood. This gorgeous blue merle boy came into rescue and hasn’t looked back. His sweet sister, Charlie, is in a separate Mo-Kan foster home. Copper loves people of all ages, especially children. He is not good with cats. Copper was used to being an outdoor dog and is learning that there are different rules indoors. He is very puppylike: perpetually happy, curious, and runs everywhere instead of walking. Copper responds best to gentle touch and calmly delivered commands. He is a blank slate, and eager to please! He is crate trained and runs in preemptively to get a treat, which he takes treats very gently. “Copper, come!” appears to be his favorite command. He thinks he is a lap dog and is learning to sit for affection instead of jumping up for it. Copper walks moderately well on a leash and is learning to stay to one side of his person. He enjoys outings to our local dog park for the people who pet him as much as the dogs he runs with. He is very skilled at reading and reacting appropriately to new dog friends and takes their feedback well. Copper would do best in a home with a consistent routine. Having been an outdoor dog after his first year of life, he is re-learning potty training. He is crated during the workday with a mid-day dogsitter break while his foster is at work and keeps his kennel clean. He loves being outside, running in a yard and wrestling with his 55 pound housemate, so a fenced yard and a dog companion are preferred. Copper is not good with cats and is hyper focused on chickens. A home without cats or caged small pets is a must. If he sounds like a great addition to your family, complete an adoption application on the Mo-Kan website. Copper is being fostered in the Kansas City area.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.September 30, 2025, 4:01 pm

My favorite thing in the whole wide world is to be with my person. Second only to that is playing with my foster brother, Anderson (Andy for short). He had a tough start in life, and I’ve gotten to help him learn how to be a puppy. As for toys, nothing’s better than a stick off a backyard tree. I also have a few toys that my former family gave me and with which I still love to play – my squeaky, stuffed Gameboy is the best. I get along great with other dogs. The neighbor dog has stayed with us a few times when his family has gone on trips. We get along really well! My foster mom is an 11-year-old border collie, who is also a MoKan rescue and who was great at helping me learn my way around my foster home, especially around dinner time. We thought I might have some food aggression issues, but my human has put each of our bowls in separate spots at mealtimes, and we’ve had no issues. So far, I’ve gotten along with all the humans I’ve met. I haven’t had any interaction with young kids. I understand basic commands like come, sit, give, and I am sure I can learn a lot more. Regarding my forever home, I would love a place where I can hop up on the couch and bed and snuggle with my human. I am a terrific cuddler. I’m sure I would be happy in a home where I’m the only dog. I’d be equally happy if I have a brother or sister dog. I’ve got lots of energy. Hey, I’m a border collie, but I’ve not expressed that energy in any negative way. In chewing on things, I keep to my toys…not furniture or clothing. Going on walks or to the park will be wonderful. Rest time is great, too. Thats me! I’m a border mix pup that was found as a stray in El Dorado. MoKan sprang me out of the shelter, and I have been enjoying all the comforts of my foster home ever since! I like playing in the yard with my foster sister, learning fetch, and napping on the couch in the evenings after I get all my zoomies out. I am affectionate, and I want to lick your face and crawl all over you if you let me. My foster mom likes to snuggle on the couch with me while I bring her all my toys to chew on. I am still learning that I can chew on  toys but not people, so it will be a little while before I am ready to be around small children. My nickname right now is ‘Piranha Pup’! I know how to sit on command and walk well on a leash, but I still have a lot to learn — my foster mom keeps trying to tell me not to jump on people or pee on the fuzzy rug, but I don’t quite understand her yet. I sleep in my kennel from 10pm to 5am without barking or making a mess, but when I am ready to come out you will definitely hear about it! My foster family says I am a “morning person”, whatever that means. I’d love a doggie friend in my new home but I’d do fine as a solo dog as well. I live with cats right now and I like them just fine, but they aren’t much fun to play with. I have learned to be polite and give them their space, and my cat friend lets me get close enough to sniff him sometimes. We can hang out on the couch together sometimes, but I am not supposed to chase him, and that’s hard to remember when it is so fun! I am treat motivated, and very bright. I would make an excellent companion for an active person who can dedicate lots of time to exercise and training. If you think I am the right dog for you, fill out an application on the Mo-Kan website! She and her brother Copper, lived their entire life with their family. Circumstances changed, and they were welcomed to rescue. Charlie is loving her foster brothers and sisters and loves to play. She is enthusiastic with chase, and wrestling games, and LOVES toys. She hasn’t shown much interest in a ball or frisbee. She is a moderate-high energy BC, needing an active home. She does have an nice off switch. Charlie is sweet, gentle, and adores her humans adults, and kids. She wants to stick close and be with her people. She is learning, sit, down, and stay, and jumping on people isn’t acceptable. She is really a blank slate, treat motivated, and ready to learn everything! She is smart, and so curious about everything, and will chew things she shouldn’t, or dig in the yard if bored. She is satisfied with appropriate chews, and plenty of exercise. Charlie will need a home without chickens or cats, she reportedly chased both in her previous home. She does have a strong prey drive and will need a secure fence, or an adopter that can keep her leashed  to keep her safe. She will need continued work on recall. Charlie would love another playful dog, and a family that will include her in activities and adventures! She walks well on a loose leash, kennel trained, and mostly house trained. **Charlie had 2 seizures after coming in to foster. A full vet check with blood work revealed that she is hypothyroid, or an underactive thyroid (the thyroid gland doesn’t produce enough thyroid hormone). It is easily treated with a daily, inexpensive medication, for her lifetime to keep her healthy and happy! She will need blood work with her yearly vet visits to maintain the appropriate dosage. Charlie is spayed, fully vetted, chipped, on Heartworm, and Flea and Tick prevention. She is being fostered in the St Robert, Mo area. Does she sound like the perfect addition to your family? Complete an adoption application on Mo-Kan's website for the opportunity to meet Charlie!
