Story
Meet Winter, a resilient Collie mix with a heart as bright as her name. Back in April, we received a call about a group of puppies who weren’t being cared for properly. Among them was Winter. She had already endured more than any puppy should—caught in a home with neglect and drug abuse, she was kicked by one of the owners, leaving her front leg broken and untreated. When we arrived in Tuscaloosa and saw her pain and fear, we knew immediately that she needed us. The very next day, our vet confirmed the break. With proper care, love, and healing, Winter made a full recovery. Today, she’s thriving—happy, energetic, and playful, with all the sweetness you could ask for in a companion. Her beautiful white coat with warm red patches and her soulful eyes make her just as stunning on the outside as she is strong on the inside. Winter is ready for her forever home—a family who will treasure not only her playful energy and loving nature, but also the story of resilience she carries with her. If you’re looking for a dog who embodies both joy and strength, Winter is waiting to meet you.

Say hello to Baxter (49 lbs), a lively young man who`s always up for a good walk! He came to stay with us because the family he was with unfortunately couldn`t keep him. He’s crate trained and will be all too happy to point out the most fascinating smells on your walks together. We know that he’s lived with dogs previously, but we’d still love to set up a meet and greet between your dog and him. Come over to meet him during our open walk-in hours of noon to 4:30pm Wed – Sundays, with extended hours until 6:30pm on Thursdays. You can also reach our adoptions team:by email: adoptions@spcaonline.comby phone (during open hours): 607-257-1822 x221(Adoption Category: Lilac)

Story
Sasha is a very good dog all around, we just don't have the time for her like she deserves and she is so young I would hate to drop her off at a shelter but the life she's living now is not a life for the active dog she is. She needs a big yard to run around in we have a big yard but she likes to jump fences, she does stay close but just makes me nervous with being on such a busy road. She's great with chickens, cats and other dogs from what we have seen in our home. She has very long and thick coat meaning she needs baths regularly and to be kept up to date with her flea collars/treatments. We do kennel her when we are not home just because she is still very curious as to get into everything at her eye sight. She's been great with our kids and loves to run around with them for reference we have a 2 and 4 year old and newborn. Plz message me with any questions.

Story
This is Griffin! ** approved application required for meet and greet** Intake Date: 11/13/24 Intake type: Surrender DOB: 11/18/2023 Gender: Neutered Male Handsome, intelligent, loyal, Griffin checks all those boxes! Griffin is a special pup who will require a special home. He is an extremely active guy and is always on the go, playing fetch, chasing his herding ball, or enjoying a swim. Griffin needs a family who is able to give him plenty of exercise and mental stimulation to keep him happy and healthy! Griffin's ideal home is one preferably in the country with lots of private land for fun supervised adventures, and a secure fenced in yard where he could safely hang out outside as he pleases and come inside when he's ready. Griffin is extremely loyal to his people, but will require slow, supervised introductions so he can learn to trust anybody new. Once Griff knows he can trust you, he'll be your very best friend!! Griffin can be selective with other dogs, but has been able to make a couple of k-9 friends during his stay here at the shelter. Griff will require a home with with older kids 16+ who are able to understand body language and respect his boundaries. A meet and greet is required for all pups and humans in the home, and multiple meet and greets will likely be needed to see if Griffin will be a good match for you and your family! If you think your home may be a good match for our boy Griffin, please submit an application!

Story
Bandit is three years old and he is a really good dog. I would not be giving him up if we weren’t expecting another baby. He’s really smart and has been trained in the basics but would learn something new quickly. He’s good with cats he’s familiar with but might chase cats he doesn’t know. He’s been inside and while good overall, should be crated at night or when left alone to prevent accidents and him getting into stuff. Both him and the other dog in the picture love swimming and it would be great if they could find a home together. I would not want the adoption fee if that were to happen.

Story
Sadie is currently at a rescue in Oklahoma. We are looking for a home in a state where people treat their animals well. She has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport near one of the cities listed at the bottom. If things don't work out for some reason, which rarely ever happens, she will go back to Oklahoma on our next transport until a new home is found. Sadie is 2 to 2 1/2 years old (June 11th) and is possibly a Border Collie/Lab mix. -Come into the local shelter in Summer 2023 as a small puppy. Transferred to our rescue on June 7th -Used to be shy and timid....now she is well socialized and loves to get all of your attention and she's not afraid to ask for it! -Energetic breed who would love a nice yard to run in and a family to love on. -35-40 pounds. -Gets along with other dogs. Would do best in a home with another dog to play with. -She would love someone to snuggle up with on the couch! -She can walk on a leash, but it does need some work. -She would love kids to play with -Video of Sadie from June 8th: https://youtube.com/shorts/A0fnOLF1xPI Sadie is spayed, vaccinated (Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella), has been dewormed. She had a **POSITIVE** heartworm test and is on slow-kill treatment. Health certificate and exam will be performed less than 10 days prior to transport.
