Story
Meet Mocha, this stunning 1 y/o Red Tri-colored Australian Shepherd. Mocha is a very sweet girl who is looking for a loving forever home. She can be a little shy at first and doesn’t particularly enjoy being approached by new people right away, but once she feels comfortable, she’ll come to you on her own and happily snuggle up for affection.  She’s currently working on crate training and is doing wonderfully. Mocha has spent up to eight hours in her crate without any accidents. She may whine a little when first settling in, but she quickly relaxes and does very well.  Mocha loves chewing on bones and is always excited for her favorite treats. She’s a gentle, affectionate dog who just needs a little patience and understanding while she builds confidence.  At this time, Mocha is not a fan of walking on a leash and would do best in a home with a securely fenced yard where she can safely exercise and explore at her own pace.  She would likely do well as an only dog where she can soak up all the attention, but she could also be a good fit with one other calm, compatible dog.  If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a sweet personality, Mocha may be the perfect match for you!  If you would like to have Mocha join your family please fill out an adoption application.  Her adoption fee covers vaccines, spay, microchip, foster care and transportation from Ohio to NY.   ##2743010##

Story
Meet Charli, the epitome of an Aussie with her stunning, beautiful soft Red Merle coat with the brightest blue eyes.  She is a 4y/o retired Australian Shepherd from an Ohio Puppy Mill.  This girl shines bright when she sees her person, little shy meeting new people, then her Aussie "wiggle butt" shakes which adds to her charm.  She absolutely thrives on human attention and prefers to be with her person 24/7 giving them 100% loving.  Charli has adjusted very well to house living and is house trained with regular potty breaks.  She is learning what toys and chew bones are.  She sleeps very quietly at night in her kennel if she can see her person.  She is not a fan of her kennel during the day or being alone.  She rides great in the car lying down and prefers this to being left home.  This girl is not a jumper so she needs a lift to get in and out of the car.  Charli loves walking on wooded trails that are quieter walking right beside you, she is learning walking past people/dogs are ok.  She does not like tension on her collar so she will stay by you or stop if you pull on the leash.  She just needs encouragement to keep walking once she stops.  She has met a 4 year old child and does well as long as children respect her space and boundaries going slower and quieter.  If you would like to adopt Charli please fill out an adoption application.  Her $475 application fee covers medical up to adoption to include vaccines, spay, microchip, transportation to NY and foster care. ##2743004##

Story
Meet MUMBLES! Mumbles is a beautiful 3 year old cattle dog mix. He is such a affectionate pup but does require an owner who understands the needs of his active breed (heeler/cattle dog). Mumbles is still very much a puppy and is VERY active, he can jump high so we do require applicants to always have him on a lead unless he's inside a 6' or higher fenced in yard. Mumbles is NOT good with other animals and needs to be the only animal in the home. He IS great with humans, though, including kids. Mumbles LOVES his humans, loves to play and would love a home to cuddle up by your side after a nice run in the yard. He does great with kids, responds to recall, and listens to commands. Mumbles is very obedient and eager to please his humans. 🤪 He is not a great dog to take neighborhood walks with - we do have a professional dog walker who does it successfully, but if Mumbles sees another dog, he WILL lunge towards them. Luckily he's not very big (~45 lbs) so he's manageable for most people. If someone were vigilant, neighborhood walks may be okay with head on a swivel or a quiet neighborhood, but Mums is super reactive to other dogs. He'd love best to have a big fenced in yard with a 7' fence - but barring that, a vigilant walker in a quieter neighborhood (no apartment complexes with shared courtyard area, for example) could work. His adoption fee is $100. ** He's also available as a part of our new Forever Foster program, where we can place him with an approved applicant as a member of their family at no cost, and we will cover all his vetting - regular, emergency, preventatives, vaccines - for life, as well as extra supports like transportation to appointments, and "boarding" if needed for vacations, FOR LIFE! Ask for more details.** 👉 Adoption fee INCLUDES: all vetting to age (including deworming, flea & tick etc), spay/neuter and microchip (if the dog is under 6 months, alter and chip will occur after they're 6 months, covered in full at our clinic or reimbursed partially at a vet of your choosing). If the dog is older than 6 months and not yet altered, we will schedule ASAP (normally within 30 days) at our clinic . We also provide as an incentive a $60 rebate for completion of positive-based training classes. Adoption also includes lifetime support of the rescue. 💜 Please click PURPLE BUTTON above to apply or go to www.secondhanddogrescue.com/apply ! ✍ APPLICATION PROCESSING: We do most application processing virtually and dog meets will be individually by appointment with ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS. We are not a shelter and are completely volunteer foster-based, so there is no central place to come see all of the dogs available. 📌 IMPORTANT NOTES: ** Housetraining with rescues is sometimes a work in progress and even if a dog is 100% in a foster's home, it should be expected there will be an adjustment period as a dog adapts to a new environment. This is even more true if the dog has not by chance had their altering appointment at time of adoption. ** Also, we highly recommend some form of 2-week shutdown and decompression for dogs going to a new home for best results. --> Lastly, breed guesses in rescue are just that (GUESSES!!) 99.9% of the time. We do not do DNA testing and our breed guesses are based on appearance and sometimes other traits, but we know the dog breed guessing game is a fool's errand even for those with LOTS of experience. 🗺ADOPTION AREA: Several hour radius of Rochester, NY (Canada within 3hrs IS allowed), except the young puppies need to be old enough to have gotten their rabies vaccination in order to cross the border- usually around 16 weeks).
