Story
Zola and Casper were found roaming the streets together. While they seem to do well with one another, adopting them together is not a requirement. These playful pals have a lot of energy and some puppy-like tendencies. Since they are younger, they're looking for an active family to keep their minds busy! They would benefit from reward-based training as they work on their leash manners and other foundational skills. They both are treat-motivated and know "sit". If you have other animals in your home, we recommend bringing them in to do a meet and greet before Zola taking home. If you are interested in meeting Zola, please submit an adoption form on our website: fairfieldcountydogs.com and we will contact you to arrange a time to visit. Story
Callie is your typical border collie mix. She can be energetic, vocal, and likes to heard. With that being said, she would do best in a home with older kids. She is very hesitant when meeting new people, which means you will need to go slowly with her. It is best for her to be able to do things at her own pace and on her own terms. She can be a little grabby (which is part of her breed) when taking treats, so tossing treats toward her is recommended. She is a working breed, so keeping her mind busy is key. She would benefit from reward-based training as she learns her foundational manners. She does know "sit" and catches on to things quickly. If you have other animals in your home, we recommend bringing them in to do a meet and greet before taking Callie home. If you are interested in meeting Callie, please submit an adoption form on our website: fairfieldcountydogs.com and we will contact you to arrange a time to visit. Story
Gypsy came from a bad home. She was not being fed and was severely underweight. So the people surrendered Gypsy and her puppies to animal control to avoid animal cruelty charges. Gypsy definitely has a herding dog breed in her mix. We think Border Collie. Gypsy is around 4 years of age and weighs 70 pounds (she only weighed 35 pounds when we got her). Gypsy is a very good girl and the most obedient dog I have ever seen. She can climb a 6-foot fence, but I caught her on the first try, told her no, and she has not attempted it since. Gypsy is fairly active. She bounces on her front legs when she is excited, and she loves to run and play with her toys. She especially loves squeaky toys. Gypsy loves water and lays in the wading pool when it is hot. She gets excited about squirrels and cats on the other side of the fence. Gypsy gets along best with male dogs and doesn't like annoying small dogs. Gypsy loves human attention and is good with children. She can sit and comes when called, She is crate-trained, house-trained, and otherwise very well-behaved in the house. She could perhaps use a bit more obedience training with someone that is firm, patient, and loving. Gypsy is very sweet. She gets attached to her human and likes to lay under my desk when I work on the computer. Gypsy walks well on a leash and rides well in the car. She must be in the house as a loved member of the family and would like a large yard with a 6' fence to run and play. Gypsy is healthy. She is spayed, fully vaccinated (DAPPvL2, Bordatella, rabies), and microchipped. Gypsy had a light case of heartworms when we first got her. We used the slow-kill method (we are happy to explain this) and she is now negative for heartworms and on monthly heartworm and flea prevention. Gypsy's adoption fee includes the cost of ground transport to Columbus or Cincinnati Ohio. She is being fostered in Texas and cannot be transported until after she is adopted. Story
Hi Sophie here! I have grown up here at the shelter, that is the only home I've known. I have grown very fond of the kind folks taking care of me. I would love nothing more than to have an actual home of my own. I am very nervous of new people, especially younger kids. It will take time for me to feel comfortable in a new home. I will need someone that is home most of the time so they can help me relax and adjust. I will require multiple visits before we can talk about me going home. If your interested in me please call the shelter.
