Story
Hi Sophie here! I have grown up here at the shelter, that is the only home I've known. I have grown very fond of the kind folks taking care of me. I would love nothing more than to have an actual home of my own. I am very nervous of new people, especially younger kids. It will take time for me to feel comfortable in a new home. I will need someone that is home most of the time so they can help me relax and adjust. I will require multiple visits before we can talk about me going home. If your interested in me please call the shelter.

Story
Dany is a 7 year old cattle dog mix. She’s got lots of energy and needs a way to let that energy out, an active family or a big yard would be perfect for her. She’s a sweet girl that loves to love. She loves to be petted and gives lots of kisses. She’s a food motivated girl and never lets you miss a meal. She needs to be in a home where she is and will be the only dog in the family. She’s good with kids but doesn’t do well with them crawling all over her. If you’re looking for a good companion you won’t find a better one in Dany. She’s the best girl who deserves the best home and best family. If you love her she’s going to love you. She’s not big on toys but will have the best time with the cardboard insert of a paper towel roll.

Story
Have you been thinking you might want a cattle dog? If so, visit with Lewis! Lewis NEEDS someone who WANTS and understands this breed and all that they require. He is a herding type dog who is at his happiest when he has a full-time job. These kinds of dogs have high prey drive, can be nippy (that is how they instinctually herd) and are very vocal; he is NOT recommended for homes with young children, small dogs, cats or other small animals who he may find fun to chase. Lewis is very smart and takes direction well and he needs that consistency and structure, otherwise he will find his own way to entertain himself. Lewis is a friendly guy who really enjoys treats and all the petting that you're willing to give him! If you want an active, super smart companion and can provide for his needs, Lewis just may be the dog you are looking for. If you are interested in meeting Lewis, please submit an adoption form found on our website: fairfieldcountydogs.com. Once received, we will contact you to arrange a visit. Story
Jupiter is a cute 2-year old female Australian Cattle Dog/Red Heeler mix who was brought to the HSOV on December 16, 2023 by a Good Samaritan who found her on Everson Road in the Belpre Ohio area. Jupiter was wearing a bright orange collar but there was neither an id tag nor a dog license tag on her collar ... And she was not microchipped. This little sweetheart has a white short smooth coat which is sprinkled with red ticking, a long tail, and an adorable face with red ticking/freckles, a liver-colored nose, and semi-erect ears. Jupiter's left eye is blue while her right eye is brown, which gives her such an endearing appearance. Jupiter has a friendly, rather demure, personality, and she is understandably a bit frightened being in an unfamiliar place with new people that she doesn't yet realize are her new best friends. HSOV Kennel Tech Mckayla spent time with Jupiter in the shelter lobby for preliminary photos on December 19th since the outside temperatures were in the freezing range late that afternoon .. Jupiter was in love with Mckayla and thoroughly attention (and 'good girl' treats) .. but she was puzzled by the paparazzi/photograph experience and couldn't figure out 'what the heck' that was all about. Jupiter weighs 44 lbs. She doesn't appear to have the luxury of learning to walk on a leash, but she is a smart little cookie who will quickly master that new skill. These photos of Jupiter admittedly not the most flattering of this cute girl, but we wanted to share them in hopes that her family is searching for her. We will take outdoor 'glamour shots' at the first opportunity if she is not reclaimed. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Jupiter will be held for three days so that her family will have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership.

Meet Jupiter (Photos 3/12/2024) Jupiter is a cute 2-year old female Australian Cattle Dog/Red Heeler mix who was brought to the HSOV on December 16, 2023 by a Good Samaritan who found her on Everson Road in the Belpre Ohio area. Jupiter's left eye is blue while her right eye is brown, which gives her such an endearing appearance. Jupiter has a friendly, rather demure, personality. For the first few weeks Jupiter was in our shelter, she was understandably a bit frightened being in an unfamiliar place with new people that she doesn't yet realize were her new best friends. We took preliminary photos of Jupiter on December 19th since the outside temperatures were in the freezing range late that afternoon.. Jupiter thoroughly attention (and 'good girl' treats) .. but she was puzzled by the paparazzi/photograph experience and couldn't figure out 'what the heck' that was all about (smile). Jupiter weighed 44 lbs when we first met her. She didn't appear to have the luxury of learning to walk on a leash, but she was a smart little cookie who quickly mastered that new skill thanks to our compassionate HSOV kennel techs and dedicated volunteers. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Jupiter was held for three days so that her family would have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership. Sadly, nobody called or came looking for this little sweetheart. These updated photos of Jupiter were taken on March 12, 2024 when she participated in our St Patrick's mini-photo publicity event, and she did her herself proud. Thanks to HSOV Kennel Tech Emily Beaver and HSOV Volunteer Emma Dahlgren for spending time with Jupiter for these 'out of this world' glamour pictures. Jupiter was a pushover for 'good girl' treats and flashed her award-winning smile for the camera.

Story
Betty is a beautiful 2-year old female Australian Cattle Dog/Red Heeler mix who was surrendered by her owner on April 20, 2024 because she was not good with other animals. This young lady has a red/mahogany-and-white short smooth coat with red ticking, a naturally docked tail, and a cute symmetrically-marked face dark brown eyes, a black button nose on her slender muzzle, a nice 'smile', and short semi-erect ears. Betty had been in her new family's home for only a few weeks. They had hoped to keep her, but she was aggressive toward their other animals. Betty is not good with other dogs or cats, and she tends to be protective of her food. Betty is house trained. Betty currently weighs 55 lbs. She has not yet been spayed. Betty is looking for an experienced handler who will work with her to resolve the food protection behavior. She appears to be ok with her people friends.

Story
We really outdid ourselves with originality in naming Cattle Dog, or “Cattle D” for not much shorter. Cattle Dog has all the energy and big personality you would expect from a Cattle Dog—he will patrol your yard to protect it from both squirrels and ghosts, but when not under attack from these nefarious villains, he loves to play with his friends and loves giving kisses and hugs and getting attention from his people. He’s a fantastic dog and just the best boy. A physically fenced yard is required. Cattle Dog is available for adoption in Ohio to residents of Ohio.
