[The Lycoming County SPCA does not “cat test” dogs per the Association of Shelter Veterinarian’s Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters.]---What volunteers have to say about this animal:Meet Koda – One-Eared Gentleman, Human Spinning Wheel, Extremely Concerned about EverythingKoda James is a big chocolate-colored Australian Kelpie mix with one ear standing proudly at attention, one ear doing its own thing, and a facial expression that suggests he has just received some very troubling news. But don’t let the concerned eyebrows fool you. Koda is a goofball.He is a dog with a LOT of energy and a very busy mind. When he first comes out of his kennel, he can be exuberant, but once he gets some distance from the shelter and has a chance to decompress, that energy starts to turn into curiosity and plain old fun.What Koda Is Like:- Big, energetic, and wonderfully goofy- Curious about absolutely everything- Very people-oriented and frequently checks in with his human- Has a particularly charming tendency to spin around your legs- Definitely has *opinions* about other dogsKoda took a little while to figure out the playtime situation, but once he did, he decided that perhaps the best game was circling your legs like a furry tornado. He`s also an enthusiastic explorer, although his leash skills are a work in progress. Koda would like to investigate everything simultaneously and has not yet accepted the radical concept of walking in one direction at a time. With people, though, he has a lovely instinct to check in. Even when he`s excited, he`s looking to his person for guidance and connection.Koda`s Ideal Home Looks Like:- Kids around 12+, on a case-by-case basis- Koda would do best as the only dog in the home- A home without cats- Someone who enjoys an energetic, funny dog and is ready to give him structure, exercise, and plenty to doKoda is a lot of dog—and we mean that in the very best possible way. He`s got the ears, the eyebrows, the energy, the enthusiasm, and approximately zero ability to hide his feelings on his face.What he needs now is someone who can help all that energy find the right outlets—and who won`t mind having a permanently concerned-looking chocolate goofball spinning happily around their legs. We suspect life with Koda will never be boring.---Condensed Staff Assessment Notes: Koda James exhibited high energy during his assessment. Upon leaving his kennel, he was boisterous, jumping and barking, with noticeable reactivity towards the other dogs. He needed to be walked further away from the building before he began to calm down. On a standard leash, he pulled in multiple directions, unable to focus on a specific path, constantly moving and exploring his surroundings. Though initially hesitant to play, he quickly warmed up and began spinning against my legs.When meeting new people, Koda was excited but frequently checked in with me.
