Story
Petey is a 4-year-old Boston Terrier weighing approximately 20 lbs, and he is looking for a loving forever home that understands his past and will give him the time and patience he deserves. Petey came to 4 Paws from an abusive environment. When he arrived, he was underweight, and it was clear that he had been through a lot. He is now getting the love, care, and support he needs to move forward. Petey does well with dogs, kids and cats, making him a pretty easygoing little guy when it comes to his furry and human friends. There is one very important thing his future family needs to understand: Petey is petrified of being crated. He can potentially hurt himself trying to escape a crate, so a traditional crate is not safe for him. He does well when left out and will need a home that understands and respects this need. Petey is looking for someone who will give him the time to build trust and feel safe. His foster-to-adopt situation recently didn’t work out, but we truly believe his forever family is still out there. As with all dogs, Petey will need time to adjust to a new home and its expectations. His future family should understand that pet ownership is a lifelong commitment, one that requires daily exercise, continued training, and socialization. Remember: a good dog is a tired dog! If you’re interested in adopting Petey, please DO NOT CALL us. Instead, complete an online application at https://petstablished.com/adoption_form/21800/generic. We verify the care of current and past pets. Our primary goal is to find the best homes for our dogs and cats, and we reserve the right to approve or deny applications based on what’s in the pet’s best interest. Petey has already been through more than any dog should. Now he deserves a safe, loving home where he can finally feel secure. Please help us find his people. #LoveDogsForever #BostonTerrier #RescuedIsTheBestBreed #Dogs #RescueDog #LoveDogs #Adopt #AdoptDontShop

Story
🐔🧡 CHICKEN NUGGET: SMALL DOG, BIG PERSONALITY — RESCUE NEEDED! 🧡🐾 Remember our little Spicy Chicken Nugget? 🌶️🐔 This adorable Boston Terrier mix has quite the personality, and we've learned a LOT about him during his time in a home environment! Chicken Nugget may be small, but he's packed with charm, spunk and just the right amount of little-dog attitude. 😂 He's also shown us that with structure, consistency and the right guidance, he can be a really wonderful little companion. Here's what we've learned about Nugget: 🐾 Playful, outgoing and full of personality — a funny little guy who keeps life interesting! 🐶 Very social with other dogs — enjoys having canine companions. 🏡 Great house manners and does well in a home environment. 🛏️ Does well in his crate and settles quietly. 🧠 Smart and a quick learner who responds well to guidance and consistency. 💕 Sweet, snuggly and affectionate with his people. 😂 A little spicy sometimes! He can get worked up but has shown he's capable of settling with appropriate guidance. Now, here's where Chicken Nugget needs some extra help. ❤️ While Nugget has many wonderful qualities, he has also demonstrated guarding behaviors in a home environment that need to be addressed before he's ready for adoption. We're looking for an experienced rescue willing to take him into their program, work through these behaviors, and help set him up for long-term success. Nugget needs an adult-only environment with people who understand the importance of structure, boundaries and behavior management. 🚨 CHICKEN NUGGET IS AVAILABLE FOR RESCUE TRANSFER ONLY. HE IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR DIRECT ADOPTION FROM THE SHELTER AT THIS TIME. We know this little guy has so much potential. We've seen his affectionate, playful, social side, and we believe he deserves the opportunity to work through his challenges with the right support. Sometimes a dog needs more than a new home. Sometimes he needs a rescue willing to help him become ready for one. 🥹🧡

Story
Bodhi is ready for adoption. He’s a 2-1/2 year old, 50 lb. Boston/Pit Bull mix who is housebroken, neutered and UTD on vaccines. Bodhi was aggressive towards other dogs. He even attacked a dog. Bodhi went through an intensive four-week board and train program with a professional trainer. He has not had an aggressive episode since completing training. He receives periodic sustainment training, and has even made some dog friends at the training facility. Bodhi and his foster dad enjoy walks through downtown Fredericksburg where they encounter hundreds of people, dogs, motorcycles, and other loud things. Bodie loves going to Home Depot and his behavior has been perfect. Everyone who meets Bodhi loves him because he’s so handsome and sweet. He is a favorite among his trainers. Bodhi will thrive in a home where he is an only pet and has room to play. Bodhi enjoys being close to his humans and loves being petted. He knows the heel command, walks at his foster’s side, and rarely notices other dogs now. Since he’s a young dog with lots of energy, Bodhi would benefit from having a fenced yard. Bodhi is fostered in Stafford, VA. If you feel you are the right family for Bodhi, please email odbtr1@gmail.com or bostonlover02@comcast.net to request a Word or PDF format application. ________________________________________

Story
Meet Murphy (Bonded with Macy) ❤️ These two distinguished seniors are looking for a soft place to land and a family willing to appreciate the finer things in life: sunshine, snacks, and naps. Murphy, an almost 11yo Chihuahua mix, was originally adopted from our rescue many years ago. Macy, a 12yo Brussels Griffon mix, joined that family later after being rescued from an abusive situation. When their beloved owner suddenly passed away, both dogs were surrendered to a shelter. We were contacted to get Murphy back, as required by our adoption agreement, but there was no chance we were leaving Macy behind. These two are a package deal, and that's exactly how they arrived. Weighing in at about 8 pounds each, these tiny retirees have been through a lot. Losing their mom and adjusting to a shelter and then a new foster home was overwhelming, but they're settling in nicely and figuring out their new routine. They're good eaters, mostly housebroken, travel well in the car, walk reasonably well on leash, tolerate crates without filing formal complaints, and get along with small, submissive dogs and cats. Both are spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on vet care, and recently had dental work. Between the two of them, they still have a respectable collection of teeth. They are good sleepers and are both pretty quiet unless there is something to actually bark at (sorry Amazon delivery people). Of course, senior dogs come with a few senior-dog quirks. Murphy gets around pretty well, although his back legs aren't quite what they used to be. He enjoys puttering around a fenced yard, soaking up the sunshine, and spending quality time snuggled next to his favorite person. He's generally a sweet little guy, but every now and then his inner grumpy old man makes an appearance. He believes his cuddle spot is prime real estate and isn't afraid to show it. Macy prefers life in the slow lane. She enjoys leisurely strolls around the yard, relaxing, and quietly judging the neighborhood from a comfortable vantage point. She's not as cuddly as Murphy, but she enjoys attention and affection on her own terms. Most of the time she's a lovely little lady, but occasionally she channels her cranky grandma energy. Are they bonded? Yes. We'd love to see them spend their golden years together, enjoying a life filled with comfort, routine, and plenty of love. We're searching for a quiet, patient home where Macy and Murphy can truly relax. Young children and a busy, high-energy environment aren't the best fit for these seasoned pups. While they're getting around fine now, a home with lots of stairs may require some accommodations as they continue their journey through retirement. If you're looking for a pair of tiny companions without any of that puppy nonsense, Macy and Murphy may be your perfect match. You can fill out an application on our website: www.homesfurhounds.org
