Story
PACC says Buddy was found near airport, but we have no idea where he came from. Jan 23, 2023 pick up date. Buddy has been through a lot in the past few months, but I’m happy to report that he`s doing well now. It’s difficult to determine exactly what breed mix Buddy might be, but Boxer - Pitbull or Boxer - Staffordshire Terrier are both possibilities. The healing nose wound; scars on his neck and ears could indicate a rough past, but it`s also possible that they were from an accident.Since he was so sick and lethargic when we received him, I’m not 100% sure on his attitude – he’s changed a lot since he’s been here. PACC vet did find an old glob of material and hair when they resected his colon. It seems he may have eaten some glass while out on the street. With no previous history, it’s tough to say what he experienced. His surgery was around Feb 10. I think he just finished healing up around April 1.Buddy was house trained when we received him and very well-behaved around guests including a free range toddler, teens, and men and women of various ages. I feel guilty leaving him when I have to go into work, but dogs are resilient and can adapt to being alone for periods of time as long as they have food, water, and a safe space to rest. His teeth were full of gunk so I’ve made a habit of brushing his teeth daily so the odor and cleanliness have improved. He allows me to mess with his teeth, and mouth. I’m happy to report that his fur has substantially improved since we first got him, which I think is a sign of good health. Any diet change has resulted in diarrhea and he vomited a few times when we first got him (likely due to food changes and obstruction in colon.) I slowly got him on a chicken kibble from Costco. WARNING: His farts are silent but violent. He usually eats at 7am and 5pm. He often goes to bed on his own at 8pm and naps alot throughout the day. With snacks at 10 am and 3pm. After his colon surgery I even fed him a little meal at noon. As for his behavior around other dogs, it`s not uncommon for dogs to become more reactive on a leash, especially when they`re around other dogs. I think we need to continue to train him to walk on a loose leash and to stay calm around other dogs. He doesn’t have terrible leash manners and socialization skills, but he’s changed a lot since his colon resection. So I’m not sure WHO the real Buddy Mc. But But is. I’m not sure if he’d be nice to cats since he was persnickety with

Layla is the sweetest girl with some special needs. She has diabetes and requires an insulin injection twice a day. She is also blind, but she doesn`t let that stop her. Once she is used to her surroundings she navigates pretty well. She does well crating at night or when we have to leave her at home. She eats really well and drinks a lot. She will let you know when she has go out by standing by the door or crying if she`s in her kennel. She loves belly rubs and gets along with big and small dogs, cats, and kids. She is pretty chill and loves to sleep on her bed or lay in the sun on a cool morning. Her tail is always wagging.

Story
Surfer may seem like an odd name for a dog living smack in the middle of the desert without an ocean in sight, but the principles of hanging loose are universal. Surfer is just riding the waves of life until he finds his forever home. Cowabunga!! In all seriousness though, Surfer is an incredibly smart dog who finds life in the shelter extremely challenging. He has spent too much time here at PACC and urgently needs to find a home. He spent time in an incredible short term foster home and did amazingly!! Here’s what his foster said:“Surfer is a young, smart, and vivacious pup who finds kennel life quite frustrating. I took him for two weeks where he was able to show his awesome potential in a home-like environment. Initially, he was nervous when left alone but he was never destructive and learned the routine, settling more and more quickly each time. He spent his time sleeping the day away either on the couch or inside the crate with the door open, occasionally playing with toys or chewing on a bone. He is also largely housebroken. He regularly went on walks with two of my like-size female dogs. He really wants to find a playmate with the same playful, energetic style. He listens quite well to verbal cues from the handler, even recalling well when out on a walk. Surfer really started learning how to play and then how to relax. We often took naps together and I took him to my mom’s house where he was initially cautious and a little reserved but became comfortable after about 20 minutes. Surfer needs someone who can continue working with him on being the best boy he can be. I know with patience and consistency, he will be an awesome companion. If I didn’t already have seven dogs with different degrees of issues, I would add him to my family.”Surfer also has tons of fans at the shelter- here’s what some of them have said:“Surfer is one of my favorite adventure companions. He has a lot of energy and is really smart. Once outside, we make a dash for the play yard so we can practice some fetch, tuggy, and chase-me. We also practice sit and paw. He has recently learned to sit on his back paws with both front paws up and forward (cute!). A particularly good smell will trigger some rolls in the grass, often accompanied by a belly rub. Surfer is an extremely intelligent and athletic dog who will need a firm handler to keep his enthusiasm directed towards positive activities. He will make a fine companion for the

Story
Rusty is a distinguished older gentleman with lots of pep in his step and the cutest wiggly little nub of a tail ever! In his most recent home he did well with small dogs and was housebroken. His former people described him as playful and affectionate and said that he loves toys and hiking. “He loves long walks and is cheerful when he meets new people.”Here’s what Rusty’s volunteer fans have said about him:“Rusty was very wiggly in his kennel when I approached but kept four feet politely on the floor as I easily leashed him. We had a very nice walk together. He was an easy walker, keeping a loose leash the whole time. Return to kennel was also easy. A very sweet boy!”“Rusty is a big sweet bouncy boy! He was super happy to greet me at the kennel door this morning and came bounding out. Once outside he bounced around on our walk. He was very interested in the remote control boats on the lake; I think he would have loved to have jumped in! He is a very sweet and loving boy; we sat down for a few minutes and he climbed right into my lap- all 75 lbs of him! Very good boy.”“Rusty is a great dog! Easy to leash and easy to return to kennel. Walks like a dream, nothing seems to interest or bother him. He’s very chill, likes to get pets- just a really even keel dog who’d make a great companion.”“Rusty is a sweet older pup! He was friendly when I met him for the first time and was patient as I leashed him up to go for a walk. He was an easy, curious walker. He wasn`t too interested in the people or dogs we passed. Easy to return to kennel.”What else do you need to know!?! Rusty would like to meet any resident dogs before heading home to make sure it’s a good match and is looking for a home without cats or other small pets. Ask to meet Rusty today!!

Story
A cuddler and social butterfly! This big boy is a big love. He is a happy boy, low maintenance, enjoys hiking, walking , car rides, massages and ice-cream cones.  He will follow you around, lay by you, walk nicely on leash and crash on a bed or couch (a little snoring may be included).  George came to us from a county shelter. They said he was aggressive with other dogs. We never saw that, and he has been very friendly with a large male dog, but as a precaution, we would recommend he be the one and only canine family member.   He likes the outdoors but wants to be with you so he is looking for an indoor home where he can provide and have companionship.  He has lived with other dogs, did well with mindful, considerate older kids. George does not like cats. He is our trainers favorite and comes with continued free training. Story
Sarge is a young boy who loves to play and needs someone willing to keep up with all the progress this sweet guy has made in his training program. He was adored by his foster caretaker where he would lay quietly by her feet and snoozed while she worked on the PC and provided great companionship for her. She sadly could not keep him due to a move and he has been living a ranch style life since. Sarge is a people lover, he wants nothing more than to please you but he wants to be someone's only dog. With people, the more the merrier but with other dogs, two is a crowd. He has a big heart and a ton of love to give.  Sarge would love to find his forever home before the new year and start his new life in the new year! Sarge is waiting, just waiting for that special someone out there to say I pick you!  Sarge is microchipped, vaccinated and neutered. His adoption fee is $50 and to start off his new home life, if adopted before Jan 1st. He comes with 3 months supply of food, collar, leash, harness and training support.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 22, 2024, 12:30 pm

Story
Maximus, or Max, had a person and home of his own, but all that changed when his person got diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer and she sadly passed away. Some of the womans friends knew her prognoses was poor and advocated for Max to try and find him a home. Sadly, she passed away before one was found and he was sent to a high kill shelter. Max was very much loved and enjoyed all the comforts of home which he happily shared with another dog (a black lab). He had also been around other dogs including small dogs (poodle). In his current temporary home, he has also been around a small dog (Doxi). He has reportedly been friendly around children, however, he does have a prior bite incident. It's possible could have been related to his loss since his whole world turned upside down, or due to a prior illness. but even though he has done well with both, we would like to place him in a home where there are no small dogs or children. He is a powerful boy so needs a savvy handler. He reportedly did well at the shelter being handled by staff and techs even under duress and he did well during his vet visit.  His caretaker says he is a sucker for scratches and walks with such a swagger. He is housetrained, well behaved, crate trained and rides well in a car.  Max is vaccinated, vet checked, neutered, microchipped and is ready to start a new beginning with a loving person and safe home to help heal his heart.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 22, 2024, 12:30 pm
