Story
Charlie is a handsome, soulful 6-year-old boxer mix who is ready to begin his next chapter after experiencing a heartbreaking loss. He came to the shelter on December 4 after his beloved human mom passed away. It's clear from everything Charlie does that he was deeply loved and well cared for—and now he's hoping to find that kind of love again. On Charlie's first day trip out of the shelter, he showed just how special he is. From the moment he hopped into an SUV and a company work truck with ease, it was obvious this boy knows how to be a great companion. He enjoys car rides, calmly looks out the window (check out picture below!), and happily sticks his head out when cruising around town. Charlie spent the day running errands and meeting people—and was absolutely perfect. He met approximately 20 people in a professional office setting and greeted everyone politely and calmly. He is not fazed by everyday noises such as automatic flushing toilets, paper towel and soap dispensers, printers, or general office sounds. Out in public, Charlie continued to impress. He helped pick up supplies at Ace Hardware, greeting people in the store and parking lot with ease He walked confidently through parking lots and parks, passing other dogs without issue—even when small dogs barked at him, Charlie simply looked and kept walking. He did wonderfully inside Pet Food Express, taking treats gently and showing no fear of automatic sliding doors. He enjoyed attention from people entering and exiting Planet Fitness and Safeway, and even went inside Safeway with no issues around carts, air curtains, or foot traffic.Charlie patiently waited in line at Starbucks for a pup cup—something he clearly remembered and knew the routine for. He sat politely, accepted his treat with “class,” and enjoyed every moment. Between errands, Charlie relaxed calmly in the car when left alone, showing that he is trustworthy and well-mannered. He is fully potty trained and has no resource-guarding with food, treats, or toys. Charlie is the kind of dog who fits seamlessly into everyday life. He's calm, confident, social, and adaptable—perfect for someone looking for a loyal companion who already understands how to live in a human world. His gentle manners and steady personality make him a wonderful candidate for a working professional, a senior citizen, a veteran, or any family looking for a loving, well-rounded dog.Adoption fee of $50 Fee is waived for veterans. Adoption includes: 2 weeks of pet coaching/training; approximately $100 in coupons; and Charlie’s harness, leash, and supplies. Charlie has already proven he's ready to love again. All he's missing is a forever home where he can feel safe, cherished, and part of a family once more. If you're looking for a loyal companion with excellent manners and a big heart, Charlie is waiting for you at Yolo County Animal Shelter in Woodland.
