*Diego's adoption fee has been WAIVED if you are approved to adopt!*DiegoBreed: Boxer, Shepherd mix Housetrained: Completely housetrainedCompatibility with other animals: Best as the only petCompatibility with children: Best in a home with no children or children visitors Knows: Sit, shake, stay, touch, go-to-placePreferred home environment: Fenced-in yard requiredIntake date/origin: August 2015, transfer from an overcrowded shelterVetting: Already neutered, microchipped, and UTD on vaccines including rabiesAdoption fee: SPONSORED BY A GENEROUS SUPPORTERLocation: Shelter facilityMeet handsome, independent Diego. This guy is an amazing dog for the right person. What do we mean by amazing? Well, Diego can pretty much take care of himself - he is content just to play by himself and find the comfiest couch to lounge upon. Born in 2014, Diego hasn't come across the right person yet, but we're hopeful that there's someone out there for him.The right home for Diego consists of one person who wants a dog just to have the company of a four-legged friend. Ideally, this person would let Diego peacefully exist in the home and provide him with a few toys and access to a fenced-in backyard. While Diego does enjoy a back scratch here and there and an occasional "good boy," he really prefers to be left by himself most of the time. He also does not appreciate being restrained, making it very difficult to put a collar or leash onto him, so this is why he must have a fenced-in yard.Diego has befriended many other dogs here at the shelter. However, he can be possessive of his food, toys, and anything he claims as his (such as the couch), so he must be the only pet in a home with no children. On the plus side, Diego is completely housetrained, he knows an array of cues, and he is a highly-trainable dog.Diego has been neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. If you are interested in adopting Diego, please fill out an adoption application for him at www.lovingheartanimalshelter.org/adopt.Will you be the person to love Diego and give him a chance at a home?

Hey, I'm Grizzly! I look like a mini bear myself! With my pointy ears and adorable pout, I've mastered the art of getting treats with just one look. I'll admit, I can be a bit chatty around other dogs. I just can't help but express myself! I'm open for a meet and greet if you share a home with another dog. We are unsure how I do with cats. I'm really just a sweet boy with wants to be loved. If you tell me I'm a good boy, well, that just makes my day! Come by and get to know me today! *ADOPTION SPONSORED*

Foster or Adopter wanted! This sweetie is STILL available. We don't know how?! This boy has a sparkly personality and loves cats and kids and has a long list of his favorite things.....Please apply at www.pawswapofgreaterlafayette.com/adopting.    Dexter is the most amazing, 4-5 year old, chonky Boxer mix with a nubby tail. He's friendly, happy and can no longer stay in his home due to quarrels with another dog. They tried professional training to no avail. We are seeking a household where Dexter will be the only dog living there, although he can be friendly with other dogs. He seems to prefer to have his family all to himself on an ongoing basis.   Dexter is house trained and crate trained. He doesn't love being in a crate, but does tolerate it. If left out for long periods, he will have occasional accidents, but is not destructive. Dexter would preferably have a physically fenced yard. He does walk nicely on leash.   Dexter's list of loves: Cuddling and being right next to his people (especially on their bed in night). Favorite toy; the Otter. Raccoon is a close second. He loves to watch Scooby Doo when left alone. Greenies specifically the blueberry flavored ones. Dexter lives for belly rubs and likes to show his people things around the house by gently taking their hand and leading them. Warm jackets and harnesses during a walk (but they must come off once back in the house.)   Dexter is neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He will also come with many of his things including his toys, bed, bowls, leash, collar, and harness. If interested in Dexter, his adoption fee is $100. If interested, please complete an application on our website at www.pawswapofgreaterlafayette.com/adopting. One application works for all of our dogs.   ##1943259##

Story
Meet A! AKA Avery. A has been with us far too long. when her original rescue gave up on her due to basic behavior and energy. We decided to give her a chance and she has not disappointed. Avery is believed to be a 4-year-old boxer mastiff beagle blend. Only upon arriving with us was Avery able to experience what a good home is… and although she lacked experience she has been amazing since day 1. Avery is proud, well-mannered, and quite the lady. Structured, disciplined, and routine along with basic obedience training have transformed this beautiful girl into nothing short of amazing. Avery is still a bit shy at first with new people, timid some, but easily warms up. Avery has the potential to be dog friendly as she is here, but this will REQUIRE time and work until adjusted to her new people and home. However, she does just well all on her own. Sadly She can be sensitive and selective with energy. This is why we say she is best as an only pet, to begin with, and slowly introduce her to a friend, eventually in the future if desired. However, do understand that this may not be feasible and at best she can be happy as an only pet. Avery never learned how to properly interact with other dogs but since with us, she is learning every day. Avery loves the outdoors. Enjoys playing with toys, and makes the perfect Netflix cuddle pup. Avery is simple and easy to please and keep happy. Avery is awesome with the kids she has met and loves their joyful happy energy. Avery dreams of happiness forever to find her and we are hoping it’s sooner than later. She has been homeless her whole life. Avery would make a great apartment or condo living pup with plenty of exercise and mental stimulation, is easy to keep her happy. Basic activity and daily exercise have done wonders for Avery. She is active, but not hyper. She’s playful and learning to play on her own with her toys without destroying them. She is crate trained and housebroken. I feel Avery would do just fine with older children who are dog friendly and well-mannered. Have I mentioned Avery makes the best Bing-watching TV buddy?! She snuggles and cuddles and has no complaints about doing so as we binge-watch our favorite series. Avery knows all her basic commands: sit, stay, leave it, wait, come, go to place/bed, and won’t touch her food unless given the okay (release). She is muzzle trained and we are done great with leash training her off-leash recall is immaculate. Avery needs a committed owner who will continue to build her confidence continues to shape her into the dog she is meant to be. Molded to perfection which she's there already. She is easy! She needs a fully secure 5ft fenced yard and an active hands-on pet parent with endless nurturing and love. Avery enjoys family outdoor activities. She loves swimming, running, power walks, and chill walks too. She has no set mode, she enjoys it ALL! She will follow your lead. She loves car rides and fast food drive-thru☺️ For pup cups. She needs an active outdoor-loving family that will include her in all the fun family adventures, that’s a must! Avery is a goof and at times a dork. She is inquisitive and always happy. Full of joy and seeking to nurture forever love. Avery has become a toy hog too. She completely avoids everyone and fully concentrated on playing with her toys. Avery loves to snuggle as her people enjoy watching tv or just reading a book. Avery needs a person in charge who she can trust and love and feel safe and confident and who will not fail her and only set her up for success. Who can lead her daily and keep her intertwined? Sadly Avery has been homeless her whole life. She has been bounced from rescue to rescue because no one wants a smart active bouncy mutt, who has easily outsmarted most. How is this Avery’s fault? From her medical foster when Avery received ACL double patella surgery (update as of 7/30/2020) Avery did well while crated for the most part. She spent 8 hours alone in a house while crated 8 hr per day. She is capable of breaking out of the crate-recommend reinforcing with locks. She will willingly go back into the crate with verbal commands. Avery will not react aggressively if approached while eating. Avery did well with more active playing in a clean and open garage during the winter months as I am disabled. Avery will remain off the furniture if commanded. Avery can become upset if you are in a different part of the house where she cannot see you until she is unjust and settles in. During the early days, she would bark and drool to anxiety. This has not happened in years. That easily stopped shortly after adjustment. Avery does not want to run in the house she will need to work on this with future owners. She enjoys her small space and comfort from her humans. Avery poops 2 times a day. Once in the morning after eating and once in the evening after eating. She can go up to three times a day. Avery was friendly towards house guests but can be overly excited. She responds negatively (hard barking) towards people walking down the sidewalk while she sits on the front porch asking to greet but is easily redirected. She did not act aggressively while walking in places. She did well In nicely spaced public spaces like open public parks and college campuses and trails. Avery does not like small animals. She sees them outside squirrels, rabbits, chipmunks, cats, etc. Avery does not like large stuffed animals. They scare her. Avery becomes agitated in cars when at a standstill but happy when on the go. This has improved tremendously. Avery does not react to fireworks, sirens, or other loud noises in urban areas and big city noises. Avery did well getting bathed outdoors and indoors. Nail trimming was surprisingly easy (she is amazing). Avery is house and crate trained, up to date on all appropriate core vaccines including lepto, and corona, as well as rabies shot, dewormed, fecal tested negative, microchipped, neutered, and on monthly heartworm flea/tick prevention. Updated: 4/11/2023 www.animalhousesanctuary.org We believe training is an ongoing process that needs to be worked on daily. New issues that arise, need to be addressed and/or rewarded. Understanding that continued training is a lifetime commitment, is very important. Out-of-state adopters are welcome at the adopter's expense. Meet & Greets are required before proceeding with an adoption. We DO NOT ship any of our pets.

*Bonnie's adoption fee has been WAIVED if you are approved to adopt! Please come to the shelter and meet our sweet, ball-loving girl!*BonnieBreed: American Pit Bull Terrier mixHousetrained: Partially, will likely do well on a scheduleGood with cats: NoGood with other dogs: NoGood with children: Does best with older children Knows: Sit, her namePreferred home environment: Securely fenced-in yard requiredIntake date/origin: April 27, 2014, found strayVetting: Already spayed, microchipped, and UTD on vaccines including rabiesAdoption fee: WAIVED for an approved applicant Playful to the core, there is no doubt that Bonnie would engage in a game of fetch 24/7 if given the opportunity - but not with just any toy, of course. Bonnie's favorite toy is the good, old-fashioned tennis ball. You can often find this carefree girl blissfully rolling around on the ground with a ball in her mouth and her paws in the air. Sweet, athletic, and just a bit silly, Bonnie is ready to start a whole new game of fetch. That is, fetching for a new home.Unfortunately, life hasn't always been fun and games for Bonnie. In 2014, she was found as a pregnant stray. Even after her puppies were all adopted, no one came for Bonnie. Ever since then, despite our many efforts at finding her a home, no one has given Bonnie a second glimpse.Born in 2010, Bonnie waits daily for someone to give her a chance. Having spent time in foster care a few years ago, Bonnie does have some manners as far as living in a home is concerned. She is partially housetrained and will likely do well once on a consistent schedule. Bonnie's favorite things are spending time with people, enjoying Kongs filled with peanut-butter, and playtime. During fetch, she does well if you trade one toy for another. If Bonnie wants one of her toys or treats, she can be pretty determined to get it, so a home with no young children will be best. Bonnie also has a high prey drive, so she must be the only pet and have a securely fenced-in yard.Having spent many years in our care, Bonnie is more than ready to find her new family. Will you be the person to give Bonnie the chance she's been dreaming of? Apply to adopt her at www.lovingheartanimalshelter.org/adopt.

Story
Hey, I'm Canal! I'm a bundle of energy in need of a little guidance and a whole lot of love. You see, I came to the shelter as a young pup and spent a good chunk of time growing up in a confined kennel. I've come a long way since then and I'm still learning every day. I thrive on regular exercise and could use some help channeling all this energy into positive play. Food, toys, and hearing that I'm a good boy keeps me motivated! I don't realize my size and actually think I'm light as a feather. Because of this, we recommend I go to a home with teens and adults only. I have made canine friends here and definitely like picking out my crew carefully. A home without cats would be best for me. Despite my size, I'm just a sweet, misunderstood love bug who's craving a chance to show you what a wonderful companion I can be. Give this big ol' baby a shot, you won't regret it!
