Story
Rambo is a handsome boy with a heart as big as his personality! This energetic boy loves to play, especially a good game of tug, and he’s always up for an adventure with his favourite people. At first, Rambo can be a little nervous when meeting new faces, but with patience and some tasty treats, he quickly warms up and shows off his sweet, friendly nature. He thrives in an environment where he can build trust and confidence at his own pace. Because he’s still young, Rambo can get overstimulated in new or stressful situations, so he’ll need a family who understands his needs and can help him navigate the world with positive reinforcement. He’s strong and can pull on leash, so ongoing training and structure will be key to helping him become the best walking companion. Rambo would do best with an active family who can match his enthusiasm for life, continue his training, and provide him with the love and patience he deserves. If you’re looking for a fun-loving, loyal companion, Rambo is ready to meet you!

Story
Mika was surrendered to us when her previous family thought she was pregnant. Mika was severely underweight and had a huge abdomen. On exam, we knew right away something wasn't right. She was taken to the vet for x-rays and it turned out she had a tumor the size of a basketball. She required surgery right away and recovered amazingly. Most recently, another tumor started to grow, and after further testing it ended up being Soft Tissue Sarcoma. The kindest thing would be to not pursue another surgery but to find her a palliative home where she can spend the rest of her days. Mika has always been extremely protective of her people and space. With people she knows, she is the most loving and cuddly girl. She is fiercely loyal. To those she doesn't trust she can be extremely aggressive and bite. Mika is in need of a home that can manage this behavior and limit her interactions with strangers. Mika does well with dogs after a slow introduction and would do well living with another dog. Mika does amazing with cats. Mika will need a home without any visiting kids. Mika loves to play in the yard with her dog friends, cuddle on the couch and lounge around. She has amazing house manners, loves car rides and even knows how to give hugs to her people.

Story
About Hozier:Hozier is a 7-year-old boxer cross and a total lover boy, complete with all the goofy charm and expressive personality the breed is known for. He’s affectionate, playful, and happiest when he’s part of the family. In his foster home, he’s been wonderful with the child he spends time with and has even done well living alongside a cat. Hozier enjoys his toys, likes to stay close to his people, and brings that classic boxer mix of silliness and sweetness wherever he goes.Ideal Home:Hozier would do well in a family home where he can be included in daily life and activities. He’s a social, people-oriented dog who enjoys companionship and routine. He can be selective about other dogs, so slow, thoughtful introductions or a home where he’s the only dog may be the best fit.Training and Skills:Hozier is house trained and has great manners in the home. He’s not destructive and settles in nicely. He rides well in the car, calmly sitting or lying down in the back. He enjoys walks and does well on leash. He’s also a big foodie, so he uses a slow feeder at mealtimes.Favourites:• His toys• Walks with his people• Car rides• Meal time • Hanging out with his foster familyDislikes:• Can be picky about dogs• Waiting for dinnerHow to Adopt:If you’re interested in adopting, please visit us at 107 McLaughlin Road, Lindsay, Tuesday to Sunday 11 am–6 pm, contact us by email info@hskl.ca or phone at 705-878-4618. Story
Juniper is a sweet, 9 year old female mixed breed dog. She had a rough start to life as a stray, suffered and overcame heartworm and has shown everyone who meets her how smart, gentle and funny is truly is. Although she has come so far, she still carries a lot of the baggage and anxiety from her earlier days. Junie loves to take naps, relax, stretch her legs and look forward to things in her usual routine. Walks, people and squirrel watching, stretching out on the couch. She also loves to be around friends, go to the pet store, the hardware store or Starbucks. She adores car rides and playing in sprinklers. Sometimes those fun outings can be overstimulating and cause her to become stressed and can also be stressful for her human friends. Her current foster parents have found out that taking time to introduce her to any new situation- allowing her to see (and safely sniff) a new place, keeping the first visit short and pairing it with treats, praise and patience can make a huge difference for her. She has time and time again shown that with each visit to a slightly less routine place, she becomes more comfortable and relaxed. And yes, we think her new adopters may even need to do this with their neighborhood coffee shop. Adopters will also need to pre-plan for potentially high stress situations where Junie may feel the need to act first and ask questions later before she understands what is happening. Asking people to give her space and giving her breaks when she needs them are very important for Junie. The great thing is: Junie enjoys being around friends in a predictable way such as having her mat to sit on with a chew treat when she needs a break from being a social butterfly.

Story
Hi, my name is Greg!Male - pending neuterAmerican Bulldog MixApprox. 2 years oldI'm a lovely goofball with a face so cute you could squeeze it! I'm the kind of dog who brings joy and laughter to every room I enter. When meeting new people, I can hardly contain my excitement-I'm friendly and enthusiastic, although I can become a bit overstimulated at times. For this reason, a busy household with lots of energetic children might be a bit overwhelming for me. But don't let that fool you; I'm a good boy with everyone I meet. One thing you should know about me is that I love food, and my body shows it! I might have missed the "beach body" memo, but I'm perfectly happy rocking my "beach ball" physique. I enjoy my meals quickly, and treats are definitely my motivators. I even know some commands like "sit," although I can get a bit jumpy and excitable. With a little continued training, I'm sure to succeed! When it comes to toys, I'm playful and energetic, but the way to my heart is definitely through treats. I can be a bit strong on the leash because I'm just so excited to explore the world and meet everyone. Some extra leash training would help me develop into the perfect walking companion.I haven't had the chance to meet many furry friends while in care, but I do show the potential to socialize successfully with other dogs. Remember, a slow and structured introduction is key to making new doggy pals! As for kitties, I haven't met any yet.If you're looking for a charming companion with a big heart and an even bigger personality, I might just be the perfect match for you. Story
Hello there! I'm Bronson, Male - neuteredAmerican Bulldog MixApprox. 2 years oldI'm a lively and spirited pup who can't wait to find my forever home. I'm full of energy and ready to bring joy to the right family. When it comes to meeting new people, I can be both friendly and a bit nervous. But don't worry! With slow introductions and a few yummy treats (which, by the way, are my absolute favourite), I warm up quickly and become your best friend in no time.I'm on the lookout for a home without young children. I haven't met any little ones yet, and because I can get easily overstimulated, I'd be most comfortable with older children, preferably those who are 16 years or older.I have boundless energy, and I absolutely adore playing with toys. However, I can become easily overstimulated, so a patient and understanding environment is key. My leash skills are still a work in progress; I'm strong and tend to pull, but with a dedicated owner, I'm confident I can improve. Treats are a fantastic motivator for me, and with some positive reinforcement, I'm sure to thrive. While I love spending time with my human companions, I can be selective with my furry friends, though I have shown the potential to socialize successfully with doggy friends. Remember, a slow introduction is key! So, if you're looking for a loyal, friendly, and energetic companion with a heart full of love, look no further-I'm your guy! Story
Hi, my name is Boomer, Male - neuteredCarolina dog mixApprox. 1 year, 6 months oldI'm a friendly and easily excitable pup with a big heart and plenty of energy. While I'm not overly interested in toys, treats and yummy food are definitely my motivators. Because I'm such a treat lover, I respond well to training when there's food involved, though I can sometimes get overstimulated and need help focusing. My leash skills could use some fine-tuning, as I have a tendency to get very excited and jumpy. I would benefit from an experienced handler or someone dedicated to teaching me the right ways. With a little patience and some tasty rewards, I'm confident I can learn and grow.Aside from treats, people are my absolute favourite! I do show signs of separation anxiety, but with consistency and a loving home, I'm sure to thrive. When it comes to body handling and restraints, I'm friendly and excitable, always ready for a little attention and affection. As for furry friends, I've shown the potential to socialize successfully with doggy pals, though remember that a slow introduction is key to making new friends. When it comes to cats, I do have a bit of a prey drive, so I would thrive best in a home without feline companions. If you're looking for a loyal, energetic, and loving addition to your family, I might just be the perfect match for you!
