Story
Murphy is a lovable goofball with a heart as big as his paws. At just 1 year old, this Boxer Lab Pit mix is full of playful energy, affection, and personality. Weighing about 73 pounds, Murphy is a big happy pup who is ready to bring joy and laughter to his forever family. Murphy is crate trained, housebroken with supervision, and does very well with other dogs, although his enthusiastic and bouncy play style may be a bit much for smaller or more delicate companions. He is smart, eager to please, and already knows basic cues such as sit, stay, and down. He also walks nicely on leash and enjoys spending time with his people. With continued structure and consistency, Murphy will continue to thrive and show just how wonderful he can be. Because of his size and playful nature, Murphy would do best in a home with older children who can comfortably interact with a larger energetic dog. Murphy is neutered, healthy, and ready to meet his new family. If you think Murphy might be the perfect fit, email adoptpetersburg@gmail.com to learn more or set up a meet and greet.

Story
Boone is a young dark brindle boxer/pit mix, around 1–2 years old, with a playful personality and a lot of energy. He’s known for his signature “kangaroo jumps” and loves to use his paws when he gets excited, which makes him both entertaining and full of character. Boone is an active, fun-loving dog who would do well with someone who can match his energy and continue working with him on basic manners. He is neutered and appears to be housebroken, which is a great start for transitioning into a home environment. Boone seems to do well with other dogs and older kids, but we would require a meet and greet to ensure it’s a good fit for everyone involved. He would thrive in a home that can provide structure, activity, and consistency. In return, Boone offers a fun, affectionate personality and a lot of enthusiasm for life. If you’re looking for a lively companion who will keep you on your toes and make you laugh, Boone could be a great match.

Story
Sherbet is a 2-year-old, 65 lb boxer/pit bull mix who arrived at the shelter after living much of his life on a chain. He came in underweight with visible scars from fly strike, but despite everything he has endured, Sherbet has held onto a bright, hopeful spirit and a deep desire to connect with people. He is energetic, playful, and absolutely loves the chance to stretch his legs and enjoy freedom. Once he’s had a chance to burn off some energy, Sherbet happily leans in for affection and clearly wants to build a bond with his people. With consistency and care, he’s already showing just how much potential he has. Sherbet is also making great progress with basic training. He’s been working on “sit” and is catching on quickly, even starting to offer it on his own once he understands what’s being asked. He can get a little bouncy when excited, but he remains gentle and receptive to guidance. He is comfortable with other dogs with proper introductions, and continued positive experiences will help him keep building confidence and social skills. Sherbet is looking for a home that can offer structure, patience, and kindness. He deserves the chance to live indoors, learn new things, and be part of a family who sees the incredible dog he is becoming. If you’re ready to help a deserving young dog start his next chapter, Sherbet would love to meet you. Email adoptpetersburg@gmail.com to learn more.

👑🌧️ All Hail Queen Xena: Puddle Conqueror 💦🐾 Looking for a dog who will turn your daily walk into an adventure series? Meet Xena… aka Dora the Explorer, but faster and with better zoomies. 😂 Xena is a 3–4 year old, 45-pound brindle and white boxer/pittie mix who has completely transformed since arriving earlier this year at just 34 pounds. That version of Xena? Gone. This Xena? Thriving. Glowing. Living her BEST life. ✨ 💛 Loves meeting new people (especially if snacks are involved—food = love) 🏃‍♀️ Built-in running partner (be prepared… she will push your pace) 🌳 Professional explorer—every tree, hill, and puddle must be investigated 💦 Elite puddle plower—seriously, it’s her passion 💋 Gives the sweetest, most gentle little kisses She’s the perfect mix of adventurous and affectionate—one minute she’s splashing through water like a kid on a mission, the next she’s melting into you for soft, sweet moments. ✨🐾 A Little Mystery, A Lot of Love… Meet Crystal! 🐾✨ With her soulful eyes, adorable black muzzle, and those incredible ears, Crystal is the kind of girl who stops you in your tracks 😍 (Is she gazing into your soul… or plotting a little mischief? We may never know!) This stunning 3–4 year old, 55 lb caramel-colored beauty (with maybe a little boxer/pittie flair 💁‍♀️) is full of life, love, and personality. Crystal can be a bit reserved when meeting new people—but give her a little time, and you’ll quickly see the playful, affectionate sweetheart underneath 💛 Once she trusts you, she’s all in. She loves being with her person—checking in on walks, staying connected, and building that special bond that makes her so unforgettable. And when she lets loose? That’s when the fun really starts: ✔️ Knows “sit” ✔️ Takes treats like a pro 🍪 ✔️ Loves fetch and playtime 🎾 ✔️ Big fan of rolling in the grass 🌿 ✔️ Even enjoys bath time 🛁 ✔️ Occasionally thinks the leash is a toy (we love a girl with personality!) She may come out of her kennel a little excited (can you blame her?), but she settles nicely and walks well once she’s into her groove. Crystal has done well walking alongside other dogs, but would also be perfectly happy as your one and only—soaking up all the love for herself 🏡💕 She’s the kind of dog who forms a deep, meaningful connection—one built on trust, patience, and love. And we promise… she is so worth it ✨ 📍 Come meet Crystal at Hopewell Animal Services She just might be the missing piece you’ve been looking for 🐶💛

Story
🐾 Meet Tillie 🐾 Tilly is a fun-loving, happy-go-lucky girl who is always ready for an adventure. At approximately 2 years and 9 months old, she's looking for a fresh start with a family who will love her for the amazing dog she is. She has a playful personality and loves spending time with her sister, Millie. Whether they're playing in the yard or simply relaxing after a good romp, Tillie enjoys having a companion by her side. She's affectionate, friendly, and settles down nicely once she's had some exercise. Tillie is spayed, keeps a very clean kennel, and has quickly won over everyone she's met at the shelter. She has not yet been cat-tested or dog-tested, but we are happy to do either for a potential adopter. Our hope is to find a home that will keep Tillie and Millie together, but if that isn't possible, Tillie is ready to find a loving family who will give her the happy ending she's been waiting for. If you're looking for a loyal, playful companion with lots of love to give, Tillie may be your perfect match.

Story
Meet Homer We pulled this sweet boy from Petersburg last week after he spent an entire year being overlooked. A whole year… and we just knew he deserved a fresh start, new faces, and a real chance at finding his forever home. Homer is about 3 years old, neutered, and up to date on his rabies vaccine. His personality? Total couch potato with just a sprinkle of playfulness He’s a mellow guy who prefers short walks and long stretches of relaxing. He’ll play with you for a few minutes (mostly to humor you, we think ), but he’s quick to say “okay, that’s enough” and go right back to lounging. Honestly, he’d make the perfect companion to hang out with you while you’re doing yard work or relaxing on the patio—he’s just happy to be near his person. Homer will need to be the only pet in the home, but he has more than enough love to give all on his own. He’s truly one of those dogs you just have to meet to fully appreciate. There’s something so special about him, and we would love nothing more than to see him finally get the home he’s been waiting so patiently for. Let’s not let Homer spend another year in a shelter Come meet him—you might just find your perfect match.

Story
🌈 Meet Dawg — the total package is still waiting for his forever family! 🐾 At around 3 years old, Dawg is equal parts sweetheart and goofball, and he's more than ready to find his people. ❤️ Friendly, affectionate, and loves everyone he meets 🐶 Dog-friendly (a meet-and-greet is required if you have another dog) 🚫 No cats — he can ignore a calm, stationary cat, but if one runs or reacts, his chase instinct takes over ✅ Neutered and up to date on his rabies vaccine — ready to go home today! Dawg loves getting out for walks... just don't expect him to train for a marathon! He's definitely a "short stroll" kind of guy. When he's decided the walk is over, he'll happily plop down right where he is and wait for you to catch on. 😂 He's also a professional splooter, stretching those back legs out like a little frog whenever he relaxes. Like many playful dogs, Dawg can get a little mouthy when he's excited, but he's responding well to being redirected with toys, and we think he'll thrive once he's settled into a home—especially if he has a playful canine companion. We can't believe no one has come to reclaim or adopt this amazing boy, but we're holding onto hope that his perfect family is out there. If you're looking for a loyal best friend with a goofy personality, a heart of gold, and plenty of love to give, Dawg is ready to meet you. Come see him... just don't be surprised if you fall in love. 💙🐾
