Story
Murphy is a lovable goofball with a heart as big as his paws. At just 1 year old, this Boxer Lab Pit mix is full of playful energy, affection, and personality. Weighing about 73 pounds, Murphy is a big happy pup who is ready to bring joy and laughter to his forever family. Murphy is crate trained, housebroken with supervision, and does very well with other dogs, although his enthusiastic and bouncy play style may be a bit much for smaller or more delicate companions. He is smart, eager to please, and already knows basic cues such as sit, stay, and down. He also walks nicely on leash and enjoys spending time with his people. With continued structure and consistency, Murphy will continue to thrive and show just how wonderful he can be. Because of his size and playful nature, Murphy would do best in a home with older children who can comfortably interact with a larger energetic dog. Murphy is neutered, healthy, and ready to meet his new family. If you think Murphy might be the perfect fit, email adoptpetersburg@gmail.com to learn more or set up a meet and greet.

Story
Boone is a young dark brindle boxer/pit mix, around 1–2 years old, with a playful personality and a lot of energy. He’s known for his signature “kangaroo jumps” and loves to use his paws when he gets excited, which makes him both entertaining and full of character. Boone is an active, fun-loving dog who would do well with someone who can match his energy and continue working with him on basic manners. He is neutered and appears to be housebroken, which is a great start for transitioning into a home environment. Boone seems to do well with other dogs and older kids, but we would require a meet and greet to ensure it’s a good fit for everyone involved. He would thrive in a home that can provide structure, activity, and consistency. In return, Boone offers a fun, affectionate personality and a lot of enthusiasm for life. If you’re looking for a lively companion who will keep you on your toes and make you laugh, Boone could be a great match.

Story
Sherbet is a 2-year-old, 65 lb boxer/pit bull mix who arrived at the shelter after living much of his life on a chain. He came in underweight with visible scars from fly strike, but despite everything he has endured, Sherbet has held onto a bright, hopeful spirit and a deep desire to connect with people. He is energetic, playful, and absolutely loves the chance to stretch his legs and enjoy freedom. Once he’s had a chance to burn off some energy, Sherbet happily leans in for affection and clearly wants to build a bond with his people. With consistency and care, he’s already showing just how much potential he has. Sherbet is also making great progress with basic training. He’s been working on “sit” and is catching on quickly, even starting to offer it on his own once he understands what’s being asked. He can get a little bouncy when excited, but he remains gentle and receptive to guidance. He is comfortable with other dogs with proper introductions, and continued positive experiences will help him keep building confidence and social skills. Sherbet is looking for a home that can offer structure, patience, and kindness. He deserves the chance to live indoors, learn new things, and be part of a family who sees the incredible dog he is becoming. If you’re ready to help a deserving young dog start his next chapter, Sherbet would love to meet you. Email adoptpetersburg@gmail.com to learn more.

💛🐾 Resilient. Joyful. Ready for her forever—meet Xena. 🐾💛 Xena is a 3–4 year old, 45-pound brindle and white beauty with a story of true resilience. When she first arrived at Hopewell Animal Services, she weighed just 34 pounds… but with lots of TLC and good nutrition, she has absolutely thrived. Now? She’s ready for the life she’s always deserved—a forever home 💫 Xena is: 🐾 Incredibly affectionate (those gentle little kisses will melt you) 🐾 Attentive and easy to connect with 🐾 Great on leash 🐾 A wonderful car rider 🐾 Always up for an adventure Honestly, she could be nicknamed “Dora the Explorer”—because every hill, tree, and puddle is hers to discover. She loves rolling in the grass and splashing through water with pure joy… the kind that makes you stop and smile just watching her 💛 While Xena enjoys walking with other dogs at the shelter, she would likely thrive best as the only dog in the home, where she can soak up all the love and attention she deserves. Story
Badger is a sweet and loyal dog. She can be energetic (enjoying walks, playing fetch, or having the zoomies) but also a couch potato (she is the last to wake up in the morning). She loves tug of war (and usually wins) and has a fun "play bow" she does when she gets excited or plays with other dogs. Badger enjoys going for walks or playing "chuck it." She also loves socialization with both humans and other dogs. Badger would thrive in a home without cats. We have 2 indoor cats and have tried to make peace between them over the past 2 years, but Badger has too much interest in the cats. She thrives with children and with other dogs in smaller groups. While she has been the only dog with us, she gets along well with friends and family member's dogs. In group doggy daycare, she gets over stimulated and does better one on one. Badger is house trained and crate trained and is content when left alone or in her crate. She is trained to sit and come.

Story
Meet Theo, the sweetest 55-pound cuddle buddy you’ll ever meet. He is an American Bully and Basset Hound mix, which gives him the perfect combination of a friendly bully smile and an adorable low-rider build. Theo is five years old, affectionate, loyal, and wonderfully attentive to his people. Theo loves going on walks, car rides, running around off-leash in safe areas, and getting hugs. He is very playful, enjoys being near you, and thrives in a loving home where he gets affection and attention. He’s also a certified foodie—he loves dog cookies, peanut-butter treats, dog ice cream, pup cups, and even a small piece of cheese pizza on rare occasions. Theo does have seasonal allergies and mild food allergies to poultry and beef, so he eats salmon-based dog food (his favorite is Rachael Ray’s salmon formula). He’s fully up-to-date on vaccines and comes with his full medical history. Theo is an easygoing, medium-energy companion who would be a great fit for any person or family.

🛋️ Meet Homer 🐾 If you’re looking for a laid-back best friend who’s happiest just hanging out by your side, Homer may be your perfect match. ❤️ Around 3 years old, neutered, and up to date on his rabies vaccine, Homer has mastered the art of enjoying the simple things in life: short walks, comfy spots to lounge, and quality time with his favorite people. He’s the definition of a couch potato with just the right amount of playful energy mixed in. Homer will happily humor you with a few minutes of playtime before deciding it’s time to get back to relaxing. 😄 Whether you’re working in the yard, sitting on the porch, or spending a quiet evening at home, Homer is content just being near you. 🐶 Calm and easygoing 🛋️ Professional cuddle and lounge expert 💕 Loyal companion who loves being near his people 🚶 Enjoys relaxed walks and quiet time Homer does need to be the only pet in the home, but honestly, he has more than enough love and personality to fill your whole heart all by himself. Homer has been waiting patiently for his chance at a forever home. Let’s make sure he doesn’t spend another year in the shelter. 💔 Come meet Homer — you just might meet your new best friend.
