Story
Years ago, we thought we'd found Haverly his forever family. They thought he was perfect, too. Then they moved.Instead of taking him with them - or returning him to us, as they promised - they left him with someone. Who left him with someone else. Somewhere along the way, Haverly wound up alone in a regional shelter.Fortunately, Haverly had one tiny piece of technology working in his favor: a microchip. That's how the shelter found Animal Aid. Otherwise... well, let's not think about that.Haverly isn't.He's six years old, devastatingly handsome, housetrained, gentle, affectionate, wonderful on a leash, and the kind of dog who believes the best place in the world is wherever his people are. He happily lived with young children and other dogs, has excellent house manners, and treats couches like sacred objects meant only for tasteful lounging and maximum cuddling. His whole body wags when he sees people. His kisses are enthusiastic enough to qualify as a facial exfoliation. He greets every stranger like a best friend. It's remarkable when you remember everything he's been through.Haverly was originally rescued by the late Chris Haverly, whose life's work gave thousands of unwanted dogs a second chance. Somehow, Haverly still wakes up every morning believing the world is full of good people. We think Chris would be pretty proud of that. The remarkable thing about dogs is that they don't spend much time asking why yesterday happened. Haverly was failed by people who promised him forever, yet he still greets new people like they're about to become family. This time, we'd really like him to be right. PLEASE HELP give Haverly the happy new beginning he deserves. Share his story. Tell your friends. His person or family is out there; let's help them find each other.Haverly is at Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA. Visiting hours are 9am to noon, daily, including weekends & holidays.Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

Story
Hi there! I’m Jynx, a 3-year-old mix (maybe pit/boxer?) with soft fawn fur, adorable white socks, and a personality as lovable as my look. If you’re searching for a snuggle buddy and an outdoor adventurer wrapped into one, I might be your perfect match. I love lounging for cuddles as much as I enjoy zooming around the yard and playing tug with ropes and toys. Life hasn’t always been easy, but I adjusted quickly to my cozy new home after being rescued right before Christmas—and what a gift that was! Now, I’m thriving and soaking up all the love and fun that comes my way. I am working on dog relationships as there was a dog I did not get along with well in my previous foster home. For now, we will try to find me a home as the only dog until I can work on being comfortable around other dogs. I’m gentle and curious around cats. I would do fine to meet kids but will not be allowed to live with kids because I can be nervous and lack confidence at times. I’m house-trained, and leash-trained. I don’t like being crated but behave well when unmonitored outside of the crate. I’m also spayed, vaccinated, heartworm negative, and ready to brighten your life with my goofy, loving energy. Since I can be a bit of a barker, I wouldn’t be suited for apartment living. I’m currently in Hampton Roads, VA, but I’d happily make the journey to find my forever home (transport fees apply). If you’re 21 or older and lo

Story
Hi there, I'm Vega, a 7-year-old, 70-pound, brindle and white boxer. I'm looking for a forever home with someone who can keep up with me and love me unconditionally. I'm an extremely loving, smart and adventurous boy, who enjoys playing, running, and exploring. I'm also very smart and eager to please, especially if you have some treats for me. I'm neutered, vaccinated, and heartworm negative, so I'm ready to go whenever you are. I have a ton of drive which makes me super fun to work with and my foster mom says I’d be amazing at dog sports of any kind because of how much I like to work. My foster mom can explain more but I need a firm owner who will work me and take me on adventures because I am no couch potato. I am dog selective needing slow intros to other dogs. I should not be around cats or other small animals because of my high prey drive. I do well with kids but best with older kids because of my size and energy. I can be crate reactive and have some barrier frustration, but I’ve been learning to improve my behavior here and am doing so much better. I also need more work on leash training, as I pull hard. Devices like gentle leaders may help me learn how to walk better on leash. I have a lot of love to give. I'm very passionate and loyal to anyone I bond with. I bond quickly and can’t wait to make friends with you! I love being petted and cuddled. I'm a relatively quiet pup, and I calm well when my exercise needs are met. I'm being fostered in Hampton Roads, VA but I can be transported out of state if you're the one for me. So, what do you say? Are you ready to meet your new best friend? I'm waiting for you. Fill out an application today and we will get the process started! *Must be 21 or older to apply.

✨🐾 A Little Mystery, A Lot of Love… Meet Crystal! 🐾✨ With her soulful eyes, adorable black muzzle, and those incredible ears, Crystal is the kind of girl who stops you in your tracks 😍 (Is she gazing into your soul… or plotting a little mischief? We may never know!) This stunning 3–4 year old, 55 lb caramel-colored beauty (with maybe a little boxer/pittie flair 💁‍♀️) is full of life, love, and personality. Crystal can be a bit reserved when meeting new people—but give her a little time, and you’ll quickly see the playful, affectionate sweetheart underneath 💛 Once she trusts you, she’s all in. She loves being with her person—checking in on walks, staying connected, and building that special bond that makes her so unforgettable. And when she lets loose? That’s when the fun really starts: ✔️ Knows “sit” ✔️ Takes treats like a pro 🍪 ✔️ Loves fetch and playtime 🎾 ✔️ Big fan of rolling in the grass 🌿 ✔️ Even enjoys bath time 🛁 ✔️ Occasionally thinks the leash is a toy (we love a girl with personality!) She may come out of her kennel a little excited (can you blame her?), but she settles nicely and walks well once she’s into her groove. Crystal has done well walking alongside other dogs, but would also be perfectly happy as your one and only—soaking up all the love for herself 🏡💕 She’s the kind of dog who forms a deep, meaningful connection—one built on trust, patience, and love. And we promise… she is so worth it ✨ 📍 Come meet Crystal at Hopewell Animal Services She just might be the missing piece you’ve been looking for 🐶💛

Story
Sammy had a bit of a rough start to life but he's doing so much better now. A few months ago, Sammy and his sister, Lily (adopted) came to our shelter with severe mange and other skin issues, which were treated with regular medicated baths. Both were extremely happy and playful despite their condition, and adapted well to our routine here at NNPP. They enjoyed playing with each other and receiving affection from staff and volunteers. They were quite the hungry puppies, too, and have since reached a healthy weight. Lily was only adopted recently, but Sammy clearly misses her. He will do best in a home with another dog or with an active lifestyle that will keep him engaged. He is a bit of a rough player, so a dog his size and energy level is preferred. Sammy also loves to play with a ball and occasionally takes a dip in the pool. He is working on learning manners and would benefit from basic obedience classes once he finds his home. Sammy does walk well on a leash and calms down once his energy has been spent. He is calm and quiet in his kennel, and isn't housebroken yet, but is very clean for a puppy his age. If Sammy sounds like the best friend you've been looking for, please come by to meet him!

Story
Auntie Em is a beautiful, German Shepherd Dog/Pitbull mix (50/50 according to the DNA test). Her dark Brindle coat and copper eyes are simply stunning - this girl turns heads! She is about 3.5 years old and weighs 64 pounds. She is very smart, obedient, powerful, and full of energy. If you are interested, please research both breeds. High energy, working dogs require a lot of exercise and stimuli. Auntie Em is very particular with other animals. She has interacted with various sized dogs. Sometimes it's playful, sometimes it's not. She does not like when other dogs get in her face or show any excitement or dominance. There is not a lot of warning when she's upset. A new owner will have to work with her and learn her cues and how to redirect her. Her prey drive is there for little furry things too, therefore no kitties. Em would do best as the only pet. She has loved all the people she has met so far with proper introduction. She is CRAZY food motivated. Em will eat anything, but chicken seems to make her itchy. Poultry free diet for this girl! She is gentle when taking treats, but is a bit protective of her bowl and yummy treats. Because of this and her occasional bursts of energy (zoomies), no children under 12 in the household for this gal. Em will definitely benefit from some obedience training to polish her manners. She does know some basic commands. She will go in a crate, but she does not love it. Em can be trusted in the house alone as long as she has her toys. She LOVES her toys. She also loves to hang out on the couch and on the bed if you will let her. Em will go in the car just fine - she is a little anxious at first, but settles down. She is micro-chipped, UTD on vaccines and spayed. She does get seasonal allergies too, but it is easily controlled with medication as needed. Em is going to make a wonderful pet for the right owner. Is it you? If you are interested, please fill out an application on www.homesfurhounds.org.
