Story
They say there is someone for everyone in this world. And at the Shelter, we like to believe that for our dogs as well. And we cling to that thought for our dogs as it gives us hope. And sometimes, hope is all we have for them.Such is the case with our beloved Odie Cakes. He is an amazing dog - fast, perceptive, adorable, loving and devoted. But, he also is very prey driven. And sometimes, when he gets overexcited, he reacts quickly, without thinking.Odie found a home but the atmosphere was just a bit too much for him. Despite the best efforts of the adopter, he realized he could not slow down the pace of his life enough to calm Odie. The BEST news is that since being back with us, Odie has been fabulous. He loves all the volunteers, he has a pal in our Finn (with just through the fence play) and he greets each day and each person with happiness.Odie's days are very calm and predictable at the Shelter and that's what gives him the calmness and peace he needs. Odie doesn't need constant activities or other dogs - Odie just needs a person who will live life with him in a somewhat boring manner. We know Odie's person is out there somewhere. He is so loved by us all and we want nothing more for him than to live his life in happy home. Please SHARE Odie's story so we can reach as many people as possible - maybe his forever person has been searching for him and just didn't know Odie was waiting at our Shelter!Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

Story
This sweet, squishy-faced, wiggly-butted girl lived her entire life in a home with a family... but her family doesn't have time for her anymore, so now she's with us. After her mom left, Ella stood vigil by the gate, softly crying, watching the parking lot, hoping her people would come back for her. They didn't.But Ella is a survivor! She has chosen to shake it off, and look for joy wherever she can find it. Ella LOVES snuggling and fetch and tug, and snuggling after playing fetch and tug! She is gentle and well-mannered, housetrained and never destructive. Ella also walks (actually, strolls) beautifully on-leash!And her eyes!!! So much love and longing! So much soul!Interested? Story
Hi there, I'm Vega, a 6-year-old, 70-pound, brindle and white boxer. I'm looking for a forever home with someone who can keep up with me and love me unconditionally. I'm a fun-loving and adventurous boy, who enjoys playing, running, and exploring. I'm also very smart and eager to please, especially if you have some treats for me. I'm neutered, vaccinated, and heartworm negative, so I'm ready to go whenever you are. I do have some quirks that you should know about. I like to test people I first meet, and I need a firm owner who can teach me right from wrong. I am dog selective needing slow intros to other dogs. I should not be around cats or other small animals because of my high prey drive. I do well with kids but probably not small kids because of my size, energy and I can be a bit of an attention hog without even realizing it. I can be crate reactive and have some barrier frustration. I also need more work on leash training, as I pull hard. Devices like gentle leaders may help me learn how to walk better on leash. I have a lot of love to give. I'm very passionate and loyal to anyone I bond with. I bond quickly and can’t wait to make friends with you! I love being petted and cuddled. I'm a relatively quiet pup, and I can calm down when my exercise needs are met. I'm being boarded in Auburn, Alabama, but I can be transported out of state if you're the one for me. So, what do you say? Are you ready to meet your new best friend? I'm waiting for you. Fill out an application today and we will get the process started! *Must be 21 or older to apply.

Introducing Butterscotch, a whirlwind of energy wrapped in a velvety coat! This 3-year-old pittie mix is not for the faint of heart - she's a ball of boundless enthusiasm with a zest for life that's truly contagious.Butterscotch is a true sweetheart, but she needs a special home that understands her unique needs. She's dog selective, meaning she gets along with some pups but prefers to be the queen of her castle. As an "only child," she'll truly blossom, soaking up all the attention and becoming your devoted sidekick. This girl is all about having fun! She loves long walks, a good game of tug-of-war, and exploring every nook and cranny of her world. Once all that energy is burned off, she'll happily curl up next to you for some snuggles...and maybe a few well-deserved belly rubs.Butterscotch is searching for an experienced, active home where she can be the center of attention. With patience, consistent training, and plenty of love, she'll thrive and become the loyal, playful companion you've been dreaming of. If you're ready for a whirlwind adventure and a lifetime of pittie love, Butterscotch is your girl!

Story
One of our HHS volunteers recently took Fifi home to foster. Here is what he had to say about this beautiful girl:The first day she would stay within 20 feet of me in the fenced in yard and was constantly checking in with me.By the second day she was much more comfortable, and I noticed her tail was up in a question mark shape more than her typical trailing fish hook neutral, and she was going behind bushes and trees and exploring more without staying so close to me.At night I walked out with her, and kept an eye on her body language as I knew her visibility was down in the dark, but she remained very neutral and even relaxed. It took her about 10 minutes after I sat down for her to settle on her own- I brought a bed from room to room and she seemed to settle on it rather quickly. She even retreated to the kennel I left open a few times for naps of her own accord. When playing, she would often present the toy to me, and even jumped onto my lap and put the toy or rawhide right in my face to play. She never presented any resource guarding both with the toys/rawhide, or her food.I was impressed that she did not have a single accident and would telegraph when she needed to go by either staring at me or the door to the yard.Overnight, I kept her in the crate, and she did not show any signs of separation anxiety. In fact, I never heard her cry or bark the entire weekend.Only twice did she get over-stimulated and began jumping on me repeatedly, but each time I quartered away and she very quickly dialed back her intensity to a lean in for pets.I chose a weekend when my dog would be with my parents so I could see how she did in a home setting with someone she trusts, and it is clear to me that she is a very well behaved dog. Her recall from the fence was always almost immediate, even when chasing small animals. She observed my neighbor on the other side of the fence but was not confident enough to move closer, so I witnessed zero barrier reactivity. Also, after she went out in the rain she allowed me to towel dry and tolerated touching of paws, tail, rear, and everything else without any stiffening. If I could have, I never would have brought her back. I was impressed with just how well behaved and relaxed she was, and I thank you so much for letting me spend the weekend with such a wonder dog.
