Dawg loves getting out for walks... just don't expect him to train for a marathon! He's definitely a "short stroll" kind of guy. When he's decided the walk is over, he'll happily plop down right where he is and wait for you to catch on. 😂 He's also a professional splooter, stretching those back legs out like a little frog whenever he relaxes. Like many playful dogs, Dawg can get a little mouthy when he's excited, but he's responding well to being redirected with toys, and we think he'll thrive once he's settled into a home—especially if he has a playful canine companion. We can't believe no one has come to reclaim or adopt this amazing boy, but we're holding onto hope that his perfect family is out there. Seriously, getting good pictures of her was a challenge because she had absolutely no interest in paying attention to us. She acted like ignoring us was her full-time job! She has lived successfully with a small Chihuahua and did well, so she has experience living with other dogs. As always, meet-and-greets are required for any potential canine siblings. She's house-trained, affectionate, and has a wonderfully balanced personality. She'll get a little burst of energy, stretch her legs, and then she's perfectly content to settle in for cuddles and companionship. If you're looking for a loyal best friend to share your couch, your heart, and your daily adventures, Destiny may be your girl. Hold your hand out and Crystal will push her face into it, then flop over so you can get the belly too. She is a pit bull mix, about eight months old and around 30 pounds, white faced with a brown coat over her back and a few white spots scattered across it like somebody flicked paint at her. She came to us out of a rough situation, and that is all we are going to say about it. She has no medical issues and is ready to go home now. She is still putting weight back on, so the family who takes her should expect to watch her fill out for a while yet. None of where she came from shows up in how she treats people. She is sweet and affectionate with everyone here, and she will take as much attention as you are willing to give. She has spent time around another dog at the shelter and did well, so a home with a friendly resident dog is a real option for her. A few honest things before you apply. At eight months she is still a puppy, and we do not know yet where she is on house training and leash manners, so plan on teaching both. She has not been around children or cats that we know of, so we cannot tell you how she would do living with either. We are glad to set up an introduction with any dog already in your home. We prefer to schedule appointments for meet and greets to make sure someone is available to spend time with you. The shelter is open Monday through Friday, 12pm to 4pm, and appointments outside of those hours may be available based on volunteer availability. Cypress is a brindle and white pit mix, about a year old and roughly 55 pounds, right at that age where the puppy energy is still there but the grown dog is starting to show up underneath it. If you want to know what makes Cypress happy, hand him a ball. Fetch is the whole world to him. He will chase, bring it back, and ask you to do it again for as long as you are willing, and he is at his very best when he has a job like that to focus on. A family who likes to be outside and does not mind throwing a ball until their arm gives out is going to fit him perfectly. He already knows sit, and he is a smart dog who catches on quickly. Leash skills are the piece he is still working on. He pulls when he gets excited, which is most of the time at the shelter, and he would do well with an adopter who keeps up with that training and turns walks into part of the routine. A basic obedience class would be a great use of his first few months in a home. Cypress has not yet been tested with other dogs or with cats, so we would want to set up a slow, supervised meet and greet with any resident dog before he goes home. He has also not been tested with children, so introductions there should be slow and supervised as well. If you are looking for a fun, athletic young dog who will bring you the ball a thousand times and never get tired of it, come meet Cypress at Petersburg Animal Care and Control. We prefer to schedule appointments for meet and greets to make sure someone is available to spend time with you.
