Story
Bailey is a purebred neutered male British short hair, six years old, who has been fully vetted and up-to-date on his shots.
His original owners purchased him from a breeder when he was just a kitten. They had another cat in the house, and Bailey was clearly the Alpha. When the couple split five years later, Bailey was left with the male in the relationship, and when his girlfriend moved out, she took her older cat with her. Over the next year and a half Bailey moved to two other homes before ending up at ACC- animal care and control.
Bailey shows signs of aggression, sometimes for no apparent reason. We learned early on that brushing him is not an option, and the smell of his own hair makes him extremely agitated and causes him to become aggressive.
Bailey can be extremely loving, he loves to be Pet, held, and scratched under his chin. On his terms and when he’s done, he will certainly let you know. Sometimes he lets out a growl, he will hiss, he will hide. From time to time he will be agitated under the bed and come out in full attack mode. When he retreats, he becomes loving once again.
We have started Bailey on fluoxetine.(Prozac) A daily medication it has been almost 2 weeks with some signs of improvement, but the aggression is still there. An ultrasound had showed that he had sediment in the bladder, and we have confirmed with the Vet that he needs to remain on a special diet. The diet is not really a big deal. It is Royal Canin urinary SO. He loves his treats and eats well, uses the litter box daily and is having no issues urinating.
Bailey has not been exposed to other cats or dogs, and unfortunately spends most of his time locked in a very large bedroom with some time during the day to explore. Having to put him back in the room, also agitates him. Bailey went to a Foster for about two weeks where he was on his best behavior and we thought would possibly be adopted. This Foster lives in a 1500 square-foot one level apartment with plenty of windows and doors for Bailey to look. He was fine until he wasn’t. His aggression started to show. We are not quite sure what would make Bailey completely happy in his surroundings except a large home where he is able to wander around without being confined. Someone who will care for him, medicate him daily, and allow him to live without boundaries. We understand he may never fully stop his aggressive behavior.
