They are housebroken (puppies are paper-trained) and crate trained. They have been microchipped for identification purposes. They have been tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, and Lyme disease. Each dog is on year-round Heartworm medication while in the rescue's care. They are up-to-date with Rabies, Bordetella, Distemper, Parvo, and Leptospirosis vaccines. They have been de-wormed. Adoption Fee: The adoption fee includes 30 days of FREE pet insurance, with an option to purchase additional coverage. The rescue strives to provide the best medical care to ensure the health of the dogs, including spaying or neutering. Adoption Requirements: A minimum physical fence of 4 feet in height is mandatory and must be installed. Some dogs may require a 6-foot wood or vinyl fence, as noted in their profiles. Electric fences are not accepted under any circumstances. These requirements and procedures are in place to ensure the safety and well-being of the adopted dogs and to provide potential adopters with healthy and well-cared-for pets. It's important for anyone interested in adopting from this rescue organization to meet these criteria and provide a suitable and safe environment for the dogs.   Click here to watch a video of Amber.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 16, 2026, 12:18 am

Story
Current Location: Bristow, VA Meet Emma – Your Built-In Best Friend 🐾 If you’re looking for a loyal companion with the perfect balance of cuddle and play, Emma is your girl. This sweet 2-year-old Brittany Spaniel weighs just under 30 pounds but has a heart big enough for the whole family. Emma is the definition of a snuggle bug—she absolutely loves being near her people, whether that’s curling up on the couch or quietly resting at your feet during movie night. She’s affectionate without being needy and settles in beautifully, even when left alone. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and has a playful, friendly spirit while still being respectful of their space. (In fact, she made herself right at home and fell asleep with her foster siblings on night one—no drama, just vibes.) Cats? She’s curious but polite, happy to coexist without causing a fuss. Kids? Instant best friends. She’s gentle, calm, and content just being near them. Emma does have a bit of energy, so she’d thrive in a home with a yard or an active family who can give her space to stretch her legs and explore. When the day winds down, though, she’s all about the cuddles. She’s mostly house-trained (just a little first-night adjustment) and fully crate-trained. She’s learning her new name, Emma, but also responds to “Lady.” Emma is the total package—sweet, adaptable, affectionate, and ready to be someone’s forever companion. If you’re looking for a dog who will fit right into your home and heart, Emma is waiting to meet you. This dog tested positive for heartworm disease before arriving to the rescue. Heartworm disease is transmitted to a dog through a bite from an infected mosquito producing a positive test in six months. OPH will treat the dog and provide two weeks of recovery time prior to adoption. Potential adopters will receive detailed information on the disease and their role in completing the recovery process from OPH’s heartworm coordinator. With monthly preventatives, the disease is completely preventable. Read about heartworm disease here: Read more about heartworm disease at https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics
