This poor baby was found wandering through town and ended up next door to our facility. Fortunately, we were able to bring him in and get him food and shelter as he was running down busy streets. He has a very unique look, and we think he may have a mixture of the Brussels Griffon. He is certainly a small-breed mixture, and he weighs 17 pounds. He appears to be young-we estimate about a year old. We are getting to know him here, but he seems like a very agreeable boy. He needs a warm place to land where he no longer has to roam the streets and can be in a house with a family. We feel he deserves it, and we hope you do as well. We will have Griff neutered on 12/2, and he has been vaccinated and microchipped, too. $350.00 helps us with the cost of his care. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $750 Meet Boyfriend 2 years old | 15 lbs | Brussels Griffon mix    Boyfriend is a compact, teddy-bear-like little guy with a big heart and an even bigger devotion to his people. He came to DPS under urgent circumstances— he and his “girlfriend” were surrendered to the shelter together, and she was so pregnant she was about to give birth. With the shelter completely out of kennel space, DPS stepped in immediately and got them both out the very same day. While his girlfriend is now safely raising four healthy newborns in one foster home, Boyfriend has been settling into life in another foster home and showing everyone just how special he is.   A Day in the Life   Boyfriend is an easygoing companion who’s happy to match his person’s schedule. He gets up when his foster does, but he’s perfectly content to loaf around until it’s actually time to start the day. Morning walks usually happen around 7:30 a.m., depending on the day. He’s flexible— equally happy with a proper walk around the neighborhood or a quick potty break before heading back inside. He eats in the morning and prefers a little moral support while dining; he often waits to eat until his human is nearby.   During the day, Boyfriend’s favorite activity is couch lounging. He is a professional loafter and an enthusiastic snorer. Evenings are relaxed, and nighttime arrangements vary— he sometimes sleeps on the bed, sometimes claims the couch, and has also slept in a crate without much fuss.   Personality & Temperament   Boyfriend is, quite simply, a love. He is affectionate, gentle, and deeply enjoys physical closeness in the form of belly rubs and back scratches. He is a true snuggler, but not a Velcro dog— he likes to be near his person without needing to follow them from room to room. He has zero interest in the bathroom and is perfectly happy hanging out nearby while you read or watch TV.   When he first arrived, Boyfriend had some tough tangles and mats in his coat. He was incredibly patient during brushing sessions, even when they were spread out over time. He will need regular brushing to keep his coat in good shape. He does not appear to shed but may not be an option if a true allergy-friendly coat is required. As he’s settled in, he’s become more confident and comfortable. He will bark when someone knocks at the door, but once he sees who it is, he quiets right down. He may whine briefly if his foster steps out to take the trash or head to yoga, but it’s mild and short-lived.   Social Skills   Boyfriend absolutely loves people— adults and kids alike. He has interacted beautifully with children, including a 7-year-old child, and was exceptionally gentle, calm, and respectful. He does not jump and seems to intuitively understand how to behave around kids. On walks, he has even pulled toward children playing nearby because he wanted to say hello.   While Boyfriend previously lived with other dogs, he has shown that he is not very comfortable with unfamiliar dogs. He is leash reactive and needs slow intros to new dogs. Because of this, his adopter will need to be committed to working on leash reactivity with positive, structured training.   Activity Level   Boyfriend is mostly a couch potato, but don’t let that fool you— when it’s time for a walk, he’s ready to go and can happily handle longer outings. He hasn’t shown interest in toys and doesn’t chew on household items. He’s content to nap, snore, and enjoy being near his person.   Leash & Training   Boyfriend walks well on leash overall and isn’t bothered by traffic or city noises. He has recently become interested in squirrels and will pull when he sees other dogs. A properly fitted harness will be important to help manage his pulling and support training. He already knows how to sit for treats and is attentive and eager to engage, making him very trainable with the right guidance.   Housetraining & Manners   He is mostly housetrained, with a few indoor accidents that may be related to being unneutered. He goes outside for potty breaks and has not used potty pads. He does not chew, dig, or bark excessively— his barking is limited to alerting when someone knocks.   The Ideal Home   Boyfriend would thrive in a home where he can be the only animal and someone’s primary companion. He would do wonderfully with kids and in a home that values a devoted, affectionate dog. With continued training, he has all the makings of a fantastic lifelong partner.   Why Boyfriend?   Boyfriend lives up to his name: he is loyal, devoted, and tends to form a strong bond with one special person. One of his nicknames is “Teddy Bear Tank,” which perfectly captures his solid build and sweet, sturdy presence. He’s a happy dog— one of those pups who looks genuinely content just walking down the street, soaking in the world.   And yes— he knows he’s cute. Strangers regularly stop to admire him, and he soaks up the attention like a pro. Cheyanne is a 10–12 month old, 9.4 lb Brussels-Cairn Terrier mix who came to us from the shelter and has been winning hearts ever since. She’s a bright, energetic young dog with a big personality packed into a small body— and she’s always ready for her next adventure or cuddle session.   Cheyanne starts her mornings calmly in her crate, waiting patiently while her person gets ready. Once the day officially begins, she’s all about a good long walk. She takes her time, likes to check everything out, and prefers a relaxed pace that lets her fully get the job done before heading back home. After her walk, she happily eats breakfast and then settles in while her foster goes about the morning routine. If her person heads out, Cheyanne gets a quick potty walk beforehand and relaxes in her crate with some soothing background noise until they return—followed, of course, by another nice long walk to decompress.   Throughout the day, Cheyanne is a great mix of independent and interactive. She can entertain herself, happily play with her person, or curl up on the bed for a rest. She’s observant and thoughtful, always watching what’s going on around her and learning household routines quickly. Dinner time usually falls sometime between mid-to-late afternoon, and evenings are for winding down. Cheyanne loves to fall asleep on the bed near her person before being transferred to her covered crate, where she sleeps comfortably through the night.   Personality-wise, Cheyanne is a total velcro dog. From day one— even when she arrived not feeling her best— she bonded quickly and deeply. She follows her person from room to room and wants to be involved in whatever is happening. Once she understands the plan, though, she’s able to settle nicely on a cushion, couch, or bed. She’s playful and energetic, and if it were up to her, she’d happily go on walk after walk all day long (so she's perfect for anyone trying to get their step count up!). At the same time, she has a sweet, intuitive side and will stay close and calm when her person needs rest.   Cheyanne absolutely adores other dogs and wants very much to be part of a pack. She has spent time with dogs of different sizes and thrives when she has canine companionship, even preferring potty breaks with another dog alongside her. She’s still learning boundaries and can be a bit enthusiastic in other dogs’ personal space, but she responds well to reassurance and guidance. She can be protective of her person, especially once bonded, but she learns quickly that it’s okay to share affection.   Cats are a bit more nuanced. Cheyanne has shown she can coexist with a cat, but she can be protective if she feels her person is threatened. With a calm, friendly cat and proper introductions, she may do just fine.   On leash, Cheyanne is enthusiastic and excited. She does pull and is very interested in other dogs and small critters, and she takes her terrier instincts seriously—especially when it comes to investigating gopher holes.   Cheyanne is mostly house trained and does well holding her potty when crated. Her signals to go outside can be subtle, so learning her cues is important. She is crate trained for nighttime and when her person leaves the house and settles best when the crate is covered and the routine is consistent. She’s smart and adapts quickly once she understands expectations.   One thing to know about Cheyanne: she is extremely affectionate. She gives enthusiastic kisses— morning, night, and every reunion in between— and somehow always manages to aim right for your face. She’s expressive, communicative, and has mastered “the look” that she'll give you before deciding whether she agrees with your request.   Cheyanne would thrive in a home that enjoys an active, engaged dog— one who loves walks, playtime, and being part of everyday life. A doggy buddy would be a bonus! What truly sets Cheyanne apart is how observant, loyal, and how eager she is to belong.        Professor Nikidik aka DOC is an 8 yr old, 5 lb Affenpinscher Mix.  He came to us with an eye injury that caused glaucoma to form.  As he is blind in this eye, the best course of action is to remove it because otherwise he would need drops 4 x's a day for life to keep it from becoming painful.  Since he cannot see out of it, that seems absurd and removing it is the best option.  As of 10/1/25, we are pending a surgery date from our vet.  He will be neutered at this time as well. For now, we are only accepting applications from homes who are willing to take him as he is and provide the needed medical care at your own expense.  Once our vet is able to get him scheduled, we will then open up applications to the general public. Neutering is a requirement of adoption and will be contingent on adoption finalization.  As with his breed, he is confident and spicy!  When he loves you he LOOOVVVEESSS you but he can be choosy about who is an instant friend.  Sometimes he requires bribes in the form of treats.  He does not like being grabbed, so we do not recommend him for homes with small children.  Our best estimate is that he would do best with kids 12+ but all kids are different and we are open to discussion.  He has not bitten anyone. Housebroken is not a title he can claim 100%…yet, but he is improving day by day. He wears a belly band 100% of the time as he waits for his neutering appointment. We believe in his former home, he was using pee pads because he hated going on the grass initially. He walks on the grass now. He has no problem pooping outside if the timing is right but if we take our eye off him for a minute between him being ready and getting that leash on him, well we will find his business in another area. At least he is consistent and we know where to look. We admittedly initially gave him too much freedom to roam around. We are back on supervised house exploration.  We have tried kennel training him but he HATES it. After multiple attempts, each resulting in 4 hours of whining and barking, we gave in and stopped putting him in. His favorites place to hang out is on the top of the couch where he can keep his eye on everything.  He is  very food motivated and we are working on not begging or barking while we are eating and he is making excellent progress.   He is a cuddler on his terms. He is definitely a little shadow to his chosen person and on occasion can be vocal with a protective little growl when someone unexpectedly gets too close to them, but he has never bitten anyone. He tolerates other dogs but doesn’t really play with them. He will protest if they get too close and go find a place where he is left alone.  We are seeing a little more of his personality each day. He wants affection and is spending more and more time on our laps where he enjoys being scratched and  getting belly rubs.  Doc would do best in a home where someone is home a lot.
