You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us! Sadie is a lively, energetic pup who absolutely loves other dogs and doesn’t seem to mind cats. She’s affectionate and enjoys cuddles, but she also has an independent streak and likes to do her own thing sometimes. Sadie would thrive with a furry friend to play with and needs a fenced yard where she can safely run and explore. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not. Because all of our dogs live in foster homes, meet-and-greets are scheduled only after a completed application is received. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance of Wilmington, DE so our volunteers can conduct an in-person home visit. Meet Sammy 🎾 Sammy is a sweet 12-13 year old Shih Tzu mix (~15 lbs) with a lot of heart. He's been through his share of vet visits — dental work, a mass removal, and treatment for a heart murmur — but none of it has dimmed his love for life. Or for fetch, which is basically his whole personality. Hand him his crinkly toy and he will happily play for hours. He's medium energy, minimally vocal, fully housebroken, and great on a leash — an easy dog to live with day to day. Sammy gets along wonderfully with other dogs and adores kids of all ages, from infants to pre-teens. He sleeps independently in his own dog bed but is always up for a cuddle when the mood strikes, and he tends to be the calm, easygoing one, happy to let his brother take the lead while he focuses on the important things — like fetch. The fine print: Sammy must be adopted alongside his bonded brother, Baxter — the two are a package deal. He'll do best with someone home often, who understands his health needs and has love (and time) enough for both boys. Sammy does have IVDD, so his ideal home is one without jumping from furniture (though stairs are no problem for him), and where someone can manage his monthly meds — Gabapentin and pimobendan for his heart. He can be a little skittish about his back end being touched because of it, but he's otherwise comfortable being picked up and handled.
