Story
Chulo is a rescue that I found 2 years ago, that I originally fostered, but ultimately adopting since we fell in love with him. He LOVES butt scratches and nibbling on bones. He plays well with other dogs and enjoys going for walks and Troy parks. He is very obedient and is well trained. Unfortunately as Chulo has gotten older, he has been trying to be the dominant male in the household which is not going well with my older male dog despite how much they love to cuddle with each other. He currently lives in a children-free home, but never had an issue when kids came over so I think he will do well with kids. He is a snoring sausage that is looking for his happily ever after.

Story
I have had Leo since he was a little 6-week-old puppy. He is now eight years old. He has grown up with my two sons, who are now four years old and 20 months old. He is great with children and loves playing with them. He hasn't been around many other dogs, but he grew up with my other dog before she passed, for about nine months. He is a lover and has a lot of energy for playing and hanging out with the kids and me. I love him so much, but unfortunately, we are downsizing due to the divorce, and I cannot take him with me to my new home. I have tried to get an ESA for him, but where we are going it is unfair to take him with us to this smaller place with no yard. I think Leo would be the happiest with an active family, who likes to do outdoorsy things or has space for him to run out his energy. I really hope to find him this - he deserves it!

This beautiful lady is Darlene. She's a black and white Bull Terrier mix. Darlene was surrendered back to HSNB after her adopter passed away and their children didn't have time to care for her. This sweet girl is very ready to find her forever home. Not only is Darlene incredibly friendly and sweet, but she's house-trained and also has some impressive house manners! Darlene is good with most other dogs but she does prefer to be the only dog that steals your heart and your couch. If you're looking for a new furry friend who will bring endless joy and love into your life, look no further than Darlene! She's playful, she loves to go on walks and she's a joy on-leash. She even adores car rides and adventures. Darlene's pretty much happy doing whatever her people are doing. She's currently in foster with a family who has 2 young girls and their favorite thing to do with Darlene is play dress-up! Come meet her and see for yourself what an amazing addition she would be to your family. Her $150 adoption fee means she comes to you spayed, microchipped, and fully vaccinated. Luna is a great dog, great companion and super fun and active. She is great with kids and she has been very good with our other dog. She is NOT good with small animals. She is very reactive to cats and chickens that I am aware of. Likely more small animals as well. She cannot go to a home with small animals as well.

Story
Rodolfo is a 3 year old male Bull Terrier who is looking for his forever home. He is very energetic, playful, athletic, and affectionate. He is a runner, a jumper and a hugger. He is full of personality, spunk and character, and he is most happy when running out in the open and playing with other dogs. That being said, Rodolfo's ideal forever home would be a place where he would have plenty of space to run around and have daily playtime with other dogs. He gets along great with all dogs and people, and he is great in car rides and on the leash. He is a medium size dog (about 40 lbs), all of his vaccines are up to date, he has been neutered. and he does not have any health issues. Rodolfo would be a great addition to any family with an active lifestyle and preferably a family that has another dog for Rodolfo to play with.

Story
Petey really is a wonderful, giant puppy! He is sweet, silly, snuggly, and ridiculously cute. He is just about everything that is good in a dog. Petey loves to entertain himself (and others) with his playful attitude and his puppy-like antics. He is a toy addict, and he kindly requests a “new toy allowance” so that he can replenish his stash regularly. He loves to start each day with a happy morning wiggle dance, and he will perform encores throughout the day. Petey is an affectionate fellow. He only gives occasional kisses, but loves to get close to you; nuzzle you; lean; poke at you with his front feet as boxers do; and when he is feeling silly (which is often!), roll around on his back and gently nibble on you. When he’s not being a silly boy, Petey enjoys relaxing by your side and napping (often on his back). He is accustomed to sleeping in bed with a person and snuggling all night. Petey would like somebody who can spend a lot of time with him, and, let’s face it, if Petey’s your pup the feeling will be mutual because he’s just so much fun and sweetness. Petey doesn’t seem to have had much basic training. Truthfully, he can get away without it inside the home because he is an easy, good boy to live with! However, he is overly excited out in the world, on walks, in the car, and seeing new people and animals, so he would benefit from some guidance to help him behave calmly in those situations. He’s a larger-than-average boxer and is a lot to handle when he is overstimulated and excited, which is his default mode out of the home at this time. At this point, meeting people is extremely exciting, but meeting dogs is just too overwhelming for him to handle. Outside the home he’s comfortable only in very low-traffic environments. Petey had a dramatic entrance into rescue, as he was pulled from the shelter while he was suffering from bloat (a medical emergency fatal within hours). He’s incredibly lucky to have survived, and he deserves to see his luck continue by finding a forever home as loving and fun as he is! ———————————————————————————————————————————————— Though we were scheduled to pull Petey from the Monterey County shelter on April 1, on March 31 we received an urgent call from the shelter: their vet believed Petey was suddenly bloating and we were asked if we were still willing to pull him and able to do so immediately. Bloat is an emergency situation that is fatal within hours if not treated surgically, and without help, the shelter’s most humane option was to euthanize Petey. Pulling a dog in critical condition, when we know the cost will be tremendous and a good outcome far from guaranteed, requires a leap of faith. But we had faith in you, so we said, “Yes.” Petey’s condition was such that shelter staff was not sure he would survive the trip to the emergency vet, which was NCBR’s only option. The shelter vet bought Petey time by puncturing his stomach to decompress the gas that was building up. Within an hour of first being contacted by the shelter, a flurry of communication had occurred, an NCBR volunteer darted to the shelter, delivered Petey to an emergency vet, and Petey was being prepped for surgery. The low estimate for Petey’s emergency surgery was $7,000, and post-operative care and medication will increase that cost. But we are overjoyed to say that Petey made it through surgery and is now recovering in the hospital.

Story
Schatzie loves to be held and is very affectionate. She will walk up to you and rest her head on your hand or lap. She is slowly learning how to play catch after watching our resident dog and loves holding a toy in her mouth at all times. Squeaker toys are her jam and there are never too many tennis balls in her opinion. Often times you will find her rolling in the grass and springing back up to all four and ready for the next adventure. She rides well in cars, walks well on a leash and is potty trained. Everyone who meets her says she is an absolute sweetheart. The instant we met, our hearts melted, and could not agree any more.
