Story
Foster notes, 12/4/23:Pie is an extremely affectionate dog that has lived most of his life in the shelter. He would benefit from some training as he can be hyper but this is at no fault of his own. Having another playmate helps with his energy. Because Pie hasn’t had a lot of interactions with other dogs and been able to be a pup himself, all he wants to do is play while the other dogs are wanting to rest. With positive redirection Pie will calm down and take a rest himself. Pie gets really excited and will try to grab blankets, toys, whatever may be around so I would recommend lots of variety of toys for him. He absolutely loves playing fetch and could play this for hours if you allowed it. Pie is such an amazing dog that has been looked over time and time again. All he wants is love, affection and attention. He will make an amazing partner in any adventure his family goes on. He loves to ride in cars and when we take him out, he goes to the car wanting to get in- it’s the absolute cutest thing. Pie loves to get belly rubs and will reward you with all of the kisses in the world. He is such a good boy that is so deserving of a forever home. Pie is house and crate trained, and lets you know when he needs to go potty. He is walked on a leash to go outside and is starting to do much better on leash. There are times when Pie will take charge and wants to walk himself by taking the leash in his mouth and starts walking in the direction he would like to go. I crate Pie when I leave the house and he’s done absolutely amazing. Pie knows sit and that is about it. We are working on other commands. I would recommend not playing tug of war with him and just tell him to “drop” the toy and he will so you can then throw it for him to go and fetch. This is a positive way to play with Pie that does not get him too overstimulated and excited. Pie does amazing with my 2 year old and my other dogs. I would recommend that Pie go to a home with at least one other dog so he can have someone to play with as playing as become his absolute favorite thing to do. I also have cats in the house and Pie is not bothered at all with them and does not engage with them at all, he is just uninterested in cats. Like every dog, Pie just needs a family willing to show him patience and love and who will work with him. Sound like you? Scrappy was found on the side of the interstate by a friend and my family felt like we could give him a great home. In the last six months I have faced some major health setbacks and am not able to give scrappy the kind of life he deserves. He is a sweetheart and even does yoga poses!

Story
Oakvale is a beautiful, long-legged boy who loves to prance around in the play yard like a deer! He is exceptionally smart and is eager to please, which makes him fairly easy to train. This stoic boy takes treats gently and enjoys to stop and sniff on his walks. He could use a bit of leash training, but we think he'd learn quickly since he's so treat motivated. Oakvale very much enjoys playing fetch, especially when you trade a ball for the one he has! Oakvale went to short term foster and proved to be awfully affectionate/cuddly and housetrained. He did show some signs of separation anxiety in short-term foster, but he did not try to break out of the crate! With time, we think he'd settle nicely. Oakvale recently went on a Dog Day Out and here's what his DDO buddy had to say! "I took Oakvale on a Dog's Day Out today! Oakvale started out a little timid but he is now napping on the couch with my husband. Oakvale got to meet my dad and stepmom downtown and then had so much fun playing fetch at Sweetwater Court Private Dog Playground and Gardens! We had lunch at Freddy's and he enjoyed a pup cup. Oakvale went for a walk in our neighborhood and was well-behaved in our house while our dogs were resting in their crates. This boy has been searching for a home for almost 3 months and he is more than ready to be a sweet companion. - Affectionate (but may take a little time to warm up to you) - Pretty good walker-he pulled a little when we first got him out but overall not bad. Likes to stop and sniff. - Loves to fetch! When he brings the ball back sometimes he makes a funny snort - Good car rider-at times slightly hesitant about jumping in but he gets in on his own! Much of the time in the car with us he lay down and napped. - He was initially interested when we ate our lunch in the car but was polite and didn't bother us. - He loves to sit for a treat! - Oakvale is a very handsome fellow and has cute speckled ears!" Oakvale has shown that he can be dog selective. He gets nervous when crowded by dogs (so he prefers no doggie day care) or when a dog is reactive to him. He'd do best with a more laid back, submissive, and/or playful dog. As always, we strongly recommend bringing any resident dogs to the shelter for a meet and greet with potential new family members to be sure it's a good match. If bringing a dog for a meet and greet, please bring proof of up to date rabies, bordetella, and DHPP vaccines. To meet your future pet, come to Guilford County Animal Services between 12 and 4 any day except Tuesday!
