Story
If you`ve been with us for awhile, you will most likely recognize Mr. Pie. He`s been one of our long-term residents who just hasn`t found his fit yet. He`s only a year and a half, and his energy shows it. He is a great boy who just needs a little training to make him the fantastic dog we all know he can be. According to a volunteer back in February, they said, `Pie has a lot of energy and still has a lot of puppy in him. He loves to fetch and play tug of war. It was easy to get a toy from him and he was gentle to take a snack out of my hand. Within a few minutes of playing, he was ready for rubs and rolled over on his back for belly rubs. Pie likes to play with the leash and tugged on it with his mouth like he was playing while I walked him. He can be a little mouthy, but it`s nothing that a little training won`t help. Otherwise, he was super sweet.`Like every dog, Pie just needs a family willing to show him patience and love and who will work with him. Sound like you? You can either schedule a visit at www.burlingtonnc.gov/visitBAS or stop by our facility during regular business hours!Dog Day Out notes, 9/2/23:Walking Pie around Elon campus was the best part of my day. It was so sweet to see people stop and give him love and see just how happy Pie was all day.Dog Day Out notes, 9/9/23:Pie is a super sweet, good natured boy. We had him during some intense thunder storms and he wasn’t phased by them whatsoever. He is also a great car rider and seemed to really enjoy riding in the car. He went through a drive-thru and did fine, and loved licking on a pup cup. We took him to Joe Davidson park and he did pretty well on the leash; he pulls a little bit, but he’s small enough that he’s not hard to control and I think he would learn to be a natural leash walker with practice. We passed some dogs and other people on the trail and though he was interested, he didn’t lunge or try very hard to get to them. While it was storming, we took him to our apartment and he loved running around and playing fetch. He didn’t have any accidents while with us. He has some humping behaviors, but I’m sure that could be solved with training. Overall, a sweet boy with puppy energy that could use an energetic companion & a fenced in yard to run and play.

Story
Oswald is a joyful and fun guy. He is affectionate, easy to walk on leash, gentle taking treats, and knows the command "sit. He LOVES to play fetch with tennis balls and will drop the ball so you can throw another for him. He enjoys attention and getting belly rubs after releasing energy out in the play yard. Oswald is a great mix of playful and sweet!

Story
This 2 year old guy is such an easy going doggo. When going on walks, you'd expect all 60 lbs of him to drag you, but not Shaw! He walks so well on leash because he is so attentive to his human. Even in the play yard, Shaw will enjoy a nice leg stretch and a lap or two around the yard, but then he will come back to check in with whoever took time out of their day to show him love. He will sit by you and soak up all the affection you have to offer. Shaw is a smart boy and will gladly sit for a treat, which he will take ever so gently. He'd LOVE to bond with his forever human over training and treats. Again, that attentive nature of his will quickly capture your heart. The nice thing about Shaw is that he is the best of both worlds. He'd love to take a stroll with you, but he'd love to hang at home with you just as much. He really just wants to be around his people. Shaw has had positive interactions with another dog at the shelter. We suggest doing slow introductions with Shaw because he is learning how to "dog" with other dogs. He is not aggressive, simply unsure! He'd likely do best with a social and/or chill fur sibling. As always, we strongly recommend bringing in your dog for a meet and greet to make sure it is a good match!
