A few notes from Jax's amazing foster family! "Our newest foster Jax is available for adoption from Guilford County Animal Shelter! A big detail to consider that doesn't define him, but certainly makes him unique is he is completely blind and partly hard of hearing. But don't let that write you off! While he needs guidance navigating his walks outdoors, he has quickly learned the lay out of our home and gently finds his way around and loooves to stroll the fenced in back yard where he knows he is safe. We have lovingly nicknamed him Roomba! Car rides do make him nervous. However, slow gentle back roads with the window rolled down will make him crack a smile and hang that big block head out the window. He's estimated to be 10 years old, though I would question being more 12, is a stocky medium build, approximately 60-70 lbs, house trained, sleeps a solid 9 hrs, and doesn't make a peep! He loves cuddles and interaction, and loves dogs! I believe he would do great with other dogs in the home that also have more of a laid back quiet lifestyle that can give him guidance and companionship. Being blind, hyper barking dogs that would roughhouse may stress him out as he spends his down time gnawing on a bone and laying on his bed catching a snooze." As always, we strongly recommend bringing any resident dogs to the shelter for a meet and greet with potential new family members to be sure it's a good match. If bringing a dog for a meet and greet, please bring proof of up to date rabies, bordetella, and DHPP vaccines.

Our beautiful Gracie Ann... what can we tell you about her in this short bio? She was found some months back, dumped in a grocery store parking lot. Alone and scared. No idea why she was dumped, no idea what she had done wrong to be deserted. One of our rescue partners called us and we jumped into action! While, we normally cannot take dogs larger than 35#, we couldn't say "no". She needed us! Gracie joined the pack of one of our fabulous fosters and fell into the role of loving life, indoors and warm! When Gracie came to us, we thought she was pregnant. Her stomach was full like she was ready to give birth. We waited. No puppies. She ate a lot.... still no puppies. We took her to the vet and confirmed, not pregnant but was in heat. Her foster mom would be out of town for a few weeks, and we would have her spayed when she returned. Gracie started losing weight rapidly. We rushed her to the vet and found out that she had pyometra. This is life or death! One vet wanted to put her to sleep because the procedure is so costly! For a rescue, $5k is a lot to absorb! We got a second opinion and are so glad that we did! Our vet gave us hope! Gracie had the surgery that afternoon and it was touch and go for a while. She stayed in the hospital for days. Today, she is fully healthy! Her bloodwork is perfect! Gracie is 2 years old.. She is up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative and on prevention. She is spayed and chipped. Gracie is housetrained and can be trusted outside of a crate. She is such a great dog! She will do best in a home with another dog as she LOVES to play, and we do not feel that placing her without a companion is in her best interest. I adopted Gidget from my local shelter. She is a very sweet dog and very well-mannered for her age (10 months). She already knows sit, down, and leave it, and working on drop it and coming when called. She is a playful pup and loves to run around my backyard. With slow introductions, she has done well with my cats, and does best with my more confident, dog-friendly cat. Gidget LOVES to meet new people, and usually automatically sits when meeting them. She also loves my 7-yr old niece (I have not seen her around younger children). Once she’s gotten her energy out, Gidget enjoys cuddling on the couch. We've been working on crate training, but she has been able to be left out in a room without being destructive for a full workday. She is dog-reactive, which we’ve been working on, and she’s already shown improvement. Any adopter will need to be willing to continue to work on that with her. Overall, she’s a great companion and I think she will grow up to be a wonderful dog.

Prince is a 2 and a half year old energetic, loving good boy who definitely needs someone/somebody who can spend time with him. A bit unweight so need a home that will feed him well and give him a good diet. He is 1 out of 3 of his siblings that werent adopted as pups and due to financial/personal reasons had to be relocated. Doesnt matter if hes a in or outside dog(preferably indoors but would need training) I just want him go go to a better home asap.
