Story
Meet Ferdinand, a 10-month-old who is looking for a family as resilient and spirited as he is! Ferdinand has a permanent, non-progressive neurological condition called ataxia. We want his future family to fully understand what his daily physical life looks like: He has a hypermetric gait, meaning he lifts his front legs quite high and extends them straight out when he walks or runs. His back legs are `loose` and do not always follow his lead. He can drag his hind limbs, and his back legs can give out entirely, causing him to stumble. While he is a happy, motivated boy, he does have a hard time walking compared to a typical dog. He will need a home that is mindful of his physical boundaries and can help him navigate his environment safely.Ferdinand isn’t in pain, but he does require some extra consideration to keep him mobile and happy. Because he can occasionally drag his back paws, a home with plenty of rugs or grassy areas will help him keep his traction and stay comfortable while he zooms around. Despite his physical challenges, Ferdinand is an absolute joy. He is incredibly sweet, social, and has a `can-do` attitude that is truly inspiring. He doesn`t know he`s different; he just knows he loves people!Since Ferdinand was a stray, we aren`t sure how he feels about other dogs, cats, or kids. Because of his mobility issues, any resident pets or children would need to be gentle and respectful of his physical space so he doesn`t get accidentally knocked over.Ferdinand is a special-needs pup who will require an extra-special commitment—but the love and smiles he provides in return are more than worth it.Ferdinand is neutered and has received core vaccinations (bordetella, canine distemper, rabies), flea + tick preventative, has been dewormed, and is microchipped. If you are interested in adopting Ferdinand, reach out to us at 920-733-1717 or adopt@foxvalleypets.org. Story
My schedule has made having a pet difficult. Frannie is the sweetest dog. She loves people and some dogs, but she’s a little picky about her furry friends. She would do great in a home without other dogs. I don’t know how she’d do with cats. She likes walks, snuggling and sleeping.
