Mavelle’s story is one of heartbreak, survival, and devotion. This pretty tabby/calico mama was found near a cemetery fiercely defending her newborn kittens after someone cruelly dumped them all in a cardboard box. Terrified and overwhelmed, Mavelle ran from the very people trying to help her, not understanding that rescue had finally arrived. To safely bring her and her babies to safety, rescuers had to humanely trap her. Despite the fear and betrayal she experienced, Mavelle proved to be a loving and devoted mother. Her kittens have since grown up and found forever homes, and now it is finally Mavelle’s turn to be cared for and loved. Mavelle is understandably shy and cautious at first, but who could blame her after everything she has endured? She needs a quiet, patient home where she can take a few days—or longer—to settle in and feel secure. With kindness and understanding, Mavelle will continue learning that not all humans will let her down. Teresa is a gentle 7-year-old cat whose world changed when her owner developed dementia and was no longer able to care for her. Having spent her life as an only pet, Teresa is understandably overwhelmed by this sudden transition and needs time to feel safe again. She is very shy at first and may lash out when she feels insecure, but this behavior comes from fear—not from a lack of sweetness. Teresa will need a patient adopter who can give her the 2–3 weeks (or more) she needs to decompress and adjust to her new surroundings. A quiet, predictable home without children is ideal, where she won’t feel overwhelmed by noise or activity. While she was previously an only cat, she seems to tolerate other calm cats if given proper introductions and space. With time, consistency, and gentle care, Teresa has the potential to form a strong bond with her new person. Now that her little ones are growing up, it’s finally Calista’s turn to find a loving home of her own. Calista is a pretty chill and easy-going girl who enjoys the simple things in life soft pets, being held, and the occasional play session with her favorite toys. She has a calm presence and would make a lovely companion for someone looking for a sweet, affectionate cat. Since having her babies, Calista hasn’t been too interested in other cats. That said, once she’s separated from her kittens and given time to adjust, she may do just fine with another cat with a slow, proper introduction. After everything she’s done for her babies, Calista deserves a cozy home where she can relax, be loved, and finally be someone’s baby too. If you’re looking for a calm, affectionate companion with a heart of gold, Calista might be the perfect match for you. PLEASE READ THIS TO ADOPT: ***ALL ANIMALS ARE CURRENTLY IN LONG BEACH, MISSISSIPPI.*** We transport adopted animals every 2-3 weeks to Northeast states.  Completed applications take precedence over inquiries. If you are interested in adopting, the FIRST step is to complete an application. We will discuss additional details with potential adopters once we have an application on file.  For Pet's Sake Rescue is a Mississippi based rescue. We are located in an overpopulated area surrounded by high-kill shelters. Adoption fees include transport, vetting and a MS Health Certificate to travel.
