Story
My father passed away in March, and after his passing, one of my good friends stepped up and took his dog in. I’ll forever be grateful that he gave him a safe and loving place during such a difficult time. Unfortunately, because of his job, my friend has to travel frequently and can no longer give him the time and care he deserves. I have a toddler at home, and with everything going on, I’m not in a position where I can safely and responsibly take him in myself. That breaks my heart because this dog means more to me than just being a pet—he is a piece of my father that is still here with us. He is a great dog, and I desperately want to find him a home where he will be loved, cared for, and treated like family. I’m not looking to simply give him away to anyone. I want to find the right person or family who will give him the life he deserves. If you or someone you know may be able to help, please reach out to me.

🐾💙 MEET ZEUS! A BIG BOY WITH AN EVEN BIGGER FUTURE! 💙🐾Looking for a best friend who comes in an extra-large package? Meet Zeus! 🐶Zeus is a 1-year-old Cane Corso/Mastiff mix who is still growing into his big body and learning the ropes of being the best dog he can be. He's got plenty of youthful energy and is looking for a family ready to help him learn, grow, and take on the world! At his age, Zeus is still a puppy at heart, just in a VERY large package! 😂 He's working on his leash manners and would benefit from continued training, patience, and consistency. Because of his size and enthusiasm, he could accidentally knock over smaller children, so a home with older kids may be a better fit.🐱 A few things to know about Zeus:Cat-friendly! Zeus can do well with feline friends.Kids and dogs: Meet-and-greets are required with any children or dogs already living in the home to help ensure everyone is a good match.Leash training: He's still learning his manners and would love someone willing to help him become a walking pro!Food sensitivities: Zeus has allergies to chicken, so he'll need chicken-free food and treats to help keep him feeling his best. 🦴🏡 Zeus's dream home?A family who understands that big dogs need guidance, training, exercise, and lots of love. He's looking for someone who will help him grow into a well-mannered companion while giving him plenty of opportunities to burn off that puppy energy.Zeus may be big, but he's still just a young guy figuring things out! With the right family by his side, he's got so much potential to become an amazing lifelong companion. ❤️Got room in your heart (and on your couch) for a big guy like Zeus? Come meet him and see if he's your perfect match! 🐾💙More information? Call Marion Area Humane Society at 740-389-6548 or email at manager@mahspets.org

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Fill out an Adoption Application Headline: Meet Slim Jim — Your Goofy, People‑Loving Velcro Sidekick! Personality: Slim Jim is a goofy, people‑loving velcro dog who wants nothing more than to be close to his person. He follows you everywhere, curls himself into the tiniest ball imaginable, and can twist into hilarious pretzel‑like positions that keep you laughing daily. He’s full of affection, full of personality, and full of love. He’s an energetic walker who can easily do five miles and still have a round of zoomies left in him, but once he’s had his fun, he becomes a true nap king — happiest snuggled up beside you or tucked into one of his signature curled‑up poses. Slim Jim does have separation anxiety and, at this stage, cannot be left alone. He thrives with someone who is home often and can give him the reassurance and structure he needs. He’s not able to tolerate a crate when left alone, but with patience and consistency, he has great potential to improve. For now, he needs a home where he won’t be left solo and can enjoy the comfort of being near his person. Slim Jim is a loyal shadow, a silly companion, and a deeply affectionate dog who brings warmth, laughter, and devotion to every day. He’s looking for someone who wants a true sidekick — a dog who will adore them endlessly. Favorite Activities: Slim Jim’s favorite things in life are wonderfully simple: long walks, cozy naps, and chewing on a good bone. He loves getting out for his daily strolls and can happily go for miles, taking in all the sights and smells. Once he’s had his exercise (and a round of zoomies), he’s all about settling in for a nap — preferably curled up in one of his signature tiny‑ball positions. When he’s awake and relaxing, a sturdy chew bone is his go‑to pastime. As long as he’s close to his person, Slim Jim is content, happy, and fully in his element. Medical Issues: Slim Jim arrived in rescue extremely underweight, but with proper care and nutrition he has made a strong recovery. He is healthy, gaining steadily, and just needs to continue putting on a bit more weight. He has no ongoing medical issues and is thriving in foster care. What would be the best kind of home: Slim Jim is looking for a patient, adult home that can offer structure, consistency, and plenty of companionship. Because he is a big, enthusiastic 75‑lb lap‑dog who still jumps when excited, he would do best in a home without young children; respectful kids 12+ may be appropriate. He is dog‑reactive and prefers to have his person all to himself, so he is best as an only dog, though a calm, respectful dog may be possible with careful introductions. Cats are unknown. Slim Jim cannot be left alone at this time and needs someone who is home consistently. A two‑adult household would be ideal so he can share his affection and not become overly dependent on just one person. He loves all people and bonds quickly. Before rescue, Slim Jim lived on the streets and had to survive on his own. In the last few months, he has been learning how to be a household dog — and despite his tough past, he shows no ill will toward humans. He is still worried that his next meal may not be guaranteed, so structure, predictable routines, and trust‑building are key to helping him feel secure. He enjoys long walks and currently gets all his exercise on leash, but he would love a fenced yard to explore. A secure 6' fence is recommended, as he is agile and athletic. Although estimated to be around four years old, Slim Jim still has some puppy energy and enthusiasm. He is food‑motivated, eager to please, and will thrive with continued basic training to help him improve his manners (jumping, counter surfing, and leash reactivity). Additional Comments: Slim Jim’s life has changed completely in just three months. After surviving on the streets and having to fend for himself, he is now learning how to be a loved, indoor family dog — and he is blossoming. Despite his tough past, he shows no ill will toward people and greets everyone with affection and trust. He is still learning that meals are consistent and safe, so structure and routine help him feel secure. Slim Jim has so much potential and is already proving what a sweet, loving, devoted companion he can be. With the right home, he will continue to grow into the incredible dog he’s meant to be.Click here to watch a video of Slim Jim.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. ·       Name: Goosifer ·       Male or female? Male ·       Approximate Age: 4-5 years ·       Breed: Bullmastiff ·       Weight: 148 pounds ·       Any impairments? No ·       Potty trained? Yes ·       Crate trained? unknown ·       Good with other dogs? Yes ·       Good with cats? unknown ·       Good with kids? Only if they are older and part of the household ·       Commands known: starting to learn! ·       Needs fenced in yard? Strongly recommended as he will spook ·       Need another dog in the home? Preferred as a confident dog housemate helps him settle in ·       Location: Portage, MI ·       Energy level (high/med/low)? Low ·       Bio:   This very large boy has a heart to match and is looking for a loving and patient home in which to continue his healing journey.  Goosifer was discovered wandering in the Kalamazoo, MI area in March and needed to be live-trapped.  He was scared, emaciated, and had a broken front leg.  With shelters as overwhelmed as they are right now, his future was very uncertain – but Goosifer quickly won over the shelter staff and they fought hard for him.  Speak! for the Unspoken was able to step in and get him out of the shelter to finish healing in a home.  He spent six months getting weekly splint changes to allow his leg to heal and is finally physically ready to be adopted. Mentally, Goosifer still has aways to go and he will need a special and patient adopter.  Mastiffs are known for being guard dogs and protecting their people, and Goosifer is a prime example.  He will have his one person and he will guard that person to the best of his ability.  Goosfier warms most quickly to women and he is afraid of men.  He is okay with the children in his home but does not like when other children are in the house.  Because of this, he needs a home with women only or a home where the adopters are willing to work with him extensively to get him comfortable.  He will need a more calm house that does not have a lot of guests.  We would like his potential adopter to be able to visit him a few times in Portage, MI to get to know him before any adoption is finalized. Moving slowly and giving him time to get to know you is very important.  It’s worth every moment when he decides that you are a safe person – then he becomes an absolute doll who never wants to leave your side, will lean on you so hard for scratches that you fall over, and sleep so soundly by you that he snores.  If you’ve really won him over, he will spread himself on his back so that you can get to all the good spots on his tummy for the most important scritches.   If you think you might be Goosifer’s forever home, fill out an application to meet him! ***PLEASE READ*** WE DO NOT RESPOND TO PETFINDER OR EMAIL INQUIRIES. Please fill out an application on our website if you are interested in adopting this dog. We will only set up a meeting with the dog once you have an approved adoption application. We actively manage our dogs on Petfinder.   If you are interested in adopting this dog, please review our adoption policies and apply online at [www.speakfortheunspoken.com/adopt](http://www.speakfortheunspoken.com/adopt). ##2804305##
