Story
PLUTO - 3 years old, 100 pounds, house trained but might have an accident if left alone too long, friendly, playful, good with dogs   Pluto arrived at VBACAC when his family had to move and they could not take him along.   He is a happy jubilant kinda guy with lots of energy to match.   He runs, he jumps, he chases tennis balls.   He loves treats and will sit with flare when he sees them.   Pluto loves going for car rides and enjoys the company of other dogs.   He is said to avoid children.   Pluto has a history of escaping his yard so keeping an eye of this big boy is going to be important.    Pluto is also a pretty big boy who will need daily walks, exercise and playtime.    Daily training added to your routine will surely help both of you...make his mind work and strengthen that bond between you.   Please do research on Cane Corsos before considering adopting. It is important to make sure the breed characteristics fit your family's lifestyle.   Pluto is currently in a back kennel so if you don't see him when you come in, please just ask!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 10, 2025, 7:57 am

Story
GOOD LISTENER & PROTECTOR MARIE - 1-5 years old, 100+ pounds, nervous behind cage bars, warms up quickly, dog social.   MARIE arrived at VBACAC when her owners could no longer care for her. She's a big girl who requires a lot of attention, food, exercise and playtime. She loves to play with all kinds of toys including squishy, tug, balls and plush. She is a sweet girl when she knows you although it will take slow and proper introductions to new people. Once done, she's a doll who is affectionate and happy. Marie does not like living life behind bars. She is barky and growly. Once out, and this is how I met her, she is lovely! She loves to run and play. She enjoys walks although she will try and chase birds and critters while walking. Marie will guard her home and yard. The Cane Corso breed is not for everyone. Please do some research on the breed to see if it would be a good breed fitting to your lifestyle. We are told Marie is friendly and playful with children. She also likes dogs and enjoys going to shelter playgroup! She is not a fan of riding in cars.  Marie is hanging in a back kennel. If you think she might be meant for your family, come out to meet her. If you don't see her right away, please just ask for her.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 27, 2025, 4:26 pm

Story
Meet Arnold “Arnie” – A Gentle Giant Ready for His Second Chance Arnold, lovingly called Arnie, is an 8-year-old Cane Corso with a story that spans continents. Born in Russia and brought to the United States for backyard breeding, Arnie’s early life was about producing puppies — not being someone’s cherished companion. Now neutered and officially retired (he is registered with the International Cane Corso Federation), Arnie is finally getting the chance to learn what it means to simply be a dog — and he’s ready to find a patient, understanding home to continue that journey. Arnie has completed heartworm treatment and is on the road to a healthier, happier future. He is crate trained and settles well in his crate, though he will shred plush beds — so blankets or chew-proof bedding are best. He loves to chew (a lot!), so plenty of durable chew toys and supervision when he’s not crated are a must. He is not fully house trained yet and will need consistency and structure. Arnie also has coprophagia, so immediate yard cleanup is necessary. The good news? He is extremely food motivated and not food aggressive at all, which makes training much easier. Right now, “sit” and "shake" are the only commands he knows, but he is eager to learn and will thrive with someone committed to continuing his training. Arnie would do wonderfully with another stable, well-mannered dog who can serve as a role model. He has a low prey drive and does well around cats, choosing to calmly ignore them. Because he is still learning that jumping isn’t appropriate and can be strong on leash (he is not leash trained and does pull), a home without small children would be best. Bath time isn’t his favorite, but with calm direction, he will walk into the tub willingly. He is tolerant of nail trims and generally cooperative with handling. Arnie appears to carry some past trauma; he can become fearful and cry around certain men, particularly those with deeper voices or darker complexions. With patience, reassurance, and positive experiences, he continues to build confidence and trust. Arnie is a big, sensitive soul who simply never had the chance to be someone’s beloved companion. He will need structure, supervision, and continued training — but in return, you’ll get a loyal, devoted dog who is finally learning what safety and kindness feel like. If you’re experienced with large breeds, believe in second chances, and are ready to help a gentle giant write his next chapter, Arnie is waiting. 🖤 If you are interested in Arnold please reach out to Tramp's Rescue to complete an application! He is currently in Virginia Beach, VA. trampsrescue@yahoo.com (804) 248-3042
