Story
Celtic is the sweetest little big guy you'll ever meet. Celtic came to us from MADACC and received cherry eye surgery after his photos were taken. Celtic is a total ham and loves to snuggle, play outside, and hang out with his people at the shelter. He really is a wonderful puppy. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on age appropriate vaccines. If you're interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website at sftsrescue.org/adoptableanimals

Story
My name is Gweneviere, I'm actually a Sarplaniac Shepherd mix, and my story started a long distance away, in Macedonia (which is in Europe). Two years ago, a very nice lady named Viki found me (and my sister) when we were just tiny puppies, after we had been abandoned on a country road. Stray dogs in Macedonia are not caught up and taken to a shelter like they are in the US. They are often dumped out and the lucky ones are are shot, purposely hit by a car. or attacked by other animals. (Sometimes they are even purposely poisoned by the “officials” because stray dogs are considered to be a public nuisance.) So my sister Greta and I were very lucky that Viki scooped us up and brought us to her house where she took care of us! Sadly, Viki’s own situation is a sad one too.. She has such a kind heart and she lives alone. She spends all her money (which isn’t much) taking in homeless dogs, arranging for their vet care, and then trying to find good homes for them. By a stroke of luck, a few years ago a wonderful rescue in the US (One Starfish Rehoming Connections) happened to learn about Viki’s efforts. Because Viki doesn’t have the any help or support One Starfish decided to partner with her, to help her care for her dogs and to find good homes for them. So, to make a long story short….my sister Greta and I are now—believe it or not—here in the US, presently being fostered by a very nice family in a Chicago suburb while we wait for someone to adopt us. To tell you a little about myself….like my sister, I am a little shy at first but I do enjoy being petted and cuddled. I am a big girl (I weigh about 85 lbs.), I am full of energy, and I enjoy playing with other dogs (and humans too) I admit I am not “fancy looking” like a designer dog. But I am fancy on the INSIDE. I’m good with other dogs (although sometimes I grumble a little when I first meet them, but I’m not aggressive at all). I would enjoy another dog to play with in a big safely fenced yard (no invisible fencing, please). It would be ideal if my adopter worked out of his/her home or at least only worked part time, as I thrive on human companionship and would enjoy spending lots of time becoming accustomed to things that are new to me.For example, when I first came to the US, the sounds coming from a television really scared me. (OK…so I admit, I’m a bit of a coward….. But, I trust my foster mom when she assures me that I’m safe with her.) If you think we would be a good match for each other, please send a detailed letter to: sylvialovesme@gmail.com and tell my foster family about yourself—your daily schedule and other family members, if you have other pets, etc.—and why you would like to adopt me. Then, if my foster family feels we are meant for each other, they will send you an adoption application to fill out, after which time we can schedule a meet-and-greet.

To tell you a little about myself….like my sister, I am a little shy at first but I do enjoy being petted and cuddled. (In fact, my foster mom says I am a “love bug”—whatever THAT means!) I’m a big girl (I weigh about 90 lbs.) and I’m good with other dogs and would enjoy another dog to play with in a big safely fenced yard (no invisible fencing, please). It would be ideal if my adopter worked out of his/her home or at least only worked part time, as I enjoy human companionship and would love to learn some new things. (For example, car rides kind of scare me. But my doggie friends tell me it’s fun to go for car rides. So, I need an adopter who is patient with me and who will show me that I don’t have anything to be afraid of.) If you think we would be a good match for each other, please send a detailed letter to: sylvialovesme@gmail.com and tell my foster family about yourself—your daily schedule and other family members, if you have other pets, etc.—and why you would like to adopt me.
