Story
Terra is a petite, medium sized dog that is most like a Carolina Dog mix (smaller) but shares many of the same traits. She has some particular needs due to her heartbreaking background and will require a very special home and person(s). Once she trusts you and starts to feel comfortable, she becomes a very loving, loyal, kiss-you-all-over best friend. Terra was originally trapped by the county in a rural desert area. She was terrified in the shelter, pregnant and lost her pup due to the stress. We rescued her and she spent a great deal of time with a caring, patient foster and family where she went through an extended decompression and acclimation period due to her extreme fear of people. She has since graduated into a different home to help ready her for adoptions and has acclimated well. She will always retain some inherent cautiousness so a quite home with a calm environment and low-key lifestyle would do best. Terra prefers to stay home where she feels most safe so she would be a great companion for someone who is retired, stay-at-home or just a home-body. She is well behaved and quite but alert, so if she hears something, she will bark to let you know. She is great with other dogs and cats and is a great buddy for a lonely canine. She is overall calm and quite but she also likes to play and will even leapfrog once she gets going. She likes chew toy treats and play with balls. Terra is housetrained, and loves scratches. Once she feels comfortable with you, she will sneak up if you are working or reading and give you little kisses...be prepared to occasionally get smothered in them when you wake up on the morning. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 29, 2024, 12:38 pm

Story
HOLD / PENDING Gypsy is a very intelligent, loyal girl who loves to play tag with other dogs. She knows all her basic commands and is extremely affectionate with people she trusts. She can get anxiety when outdoors on walks if there is traffic or loud noises. We believe this is because she was caught in a trap and her first real interactions with people was a traumatic experience.  She acts as the "welcome committee" for new dogs coming into our rescue and seems nurturing of the younger ones - showing them the ropes. She is very intuitive and has all of the behavior traits one would expect with a Carolina Dog.  We would anticipate her going to a new home and environment to be a daunting experience for her at first so a person who is breed familiar and willing to be patient and build trust on her terms is needed. Gypsy also loves other canine companionship and being part of a pack so a home with at least one other dog would be required for adoption.  Applications for adoption can be submitted at lovar.orgVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 29, 2024, 12:38 pm

Story
HOLD / PENDING Dixie is a strikingly beautiful, loving-every-moment-of-life, exuberant girl. She had been with a family previously who had to give her up, although they loved her very much. Dixie is cautious of strangers but a great appropriate introduction, she can quickly become friends. With her family and people, she’s just a wonderfully affectionate, playful happy dog.  She is strong and does have some pray drive (will chase a lizard, try to catch bees etc.), so a person that is able to manage that appropriately would be needed if you intend to do a lot of outings.  Dixie has a lot of training under her belt, which her new family should be willing and prepared to continue for consistency and continued development and to maintain respect for boundries. When she first came to our rescue she was very mouthy (not in an aggressive way but playful or this was how she learned to say hello or get attention as a puppy) she has been doing really well in learning better and more appropriate behavior. Her ultimate favorite toy is a tennis throw toy. She will chase that top and then prance around, so proud of herself. Dixie loves other compatable dogs and is a boisterous playmate so she is more compatable with dogs that wont challenge her but will chase the ball with her (but mostly let her win). Her favorite thing in the world is the company and love of a family. She loves to hang out and be around her people - She would not be good around cats and because of her exuberance, older children would be more suited.   If you are interested in Dixie and think you might be a good match for her, please submit an application to www.lovar.orgVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 29, 2024, 12:38 pm

Story
HOLD/PENDING BUGSY was part of the rescue group to leave the home of the Northern California breeder and into our rescue with great help from our friends s at the Available Carolina Dog group and is getting ready for a wonderful home of his own.  He is a male Carolina Dog, just under 1 yr old, neutered, microchipped and current on shots. Bugsy is friendly with other dogs, does not seem to mind cats and has a friendly disposition with people (although expect him to be cautious at first until he figures out you are his person). He is currently working on his house training, (but he is smart and will be a quick learner), and leash training (which is scary for him right now since he has never been leashed before).  Since these dogs enjoy having a canine companion, he would be happiest in a home with another dog. He is extremely handsome and will be a wonderful loyal companion. If interested in adopting, please complete the application at our website lovar.org.  Foster opportunities also available http://www.timesheraldonline.com/…/…/20180523/NEWS/180529929 Our team is working tirelessly night and day to ensure these very special dogs are rescued and placed safely before any are impounded. Be Part of This Mission. The majority of these dogs are very fearful and under socialized The care, vetting, medical transport etc. is a huge undertaking and requires a lot of support. A fund has been established to help defray costs associated with a rescue mission of this magnitude for medical, alters, vaccines, supplies, transport etc. Donations are greatly needed to help these dogs as are volunteers for transportation short and long distance and other volunteers.  Donations can also be received at www.lovar.org or fundraiser  https://www.gofundme.com/availablecarolinadogs-com?rcid=r01 Foster applications: www.saferline.org Adoption applications: www.lovar.org  Email us at admin@saferlifeline.org  Visit @availablecarolinadogs to learn more about these dogs # lovar4life   # availablecarolinadogs   # adoptdontshop Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 29, 2024, 12:38 pm
