Story
Jazz is a 4-year-old mixed breed male who comes to PAWS from NYACC where he was surrendered by his owner. Jazz is a friendly and social boy who has no history of resource guarding or reactivity to humans. He barks loudly at small dogs on walks but seems more disinterested in most dogs than reactive. Jazz loves to snuggle and receive belly rubs and was wonderful during his first vet appt! He will make a great addition to any family looking for a loveable and loyal dog. Jazz is microchipped, up to date on his vaccinations and neutered.

Story
Hi, I’m Marco! I am three-years-old, 50 lbs., and as handsome as can be with my incredibly soft coat, adorable smile, and curly-q tail. I was DNA tested and would you believe I have a total of 17 breeds! I was found as a stray in rural North Carolina in November 2021 where I spent 17 months in the shelter, 23 hours a day in a kennel – that’s basically where I grew up and all I’ve never known. I have been in my amazing foster home in Connecticut since March 2023 and while it has been so much fun and I am incredibly loved, I yearn for a family of my very own! I’m a big fan of pets and will curl up right next to you as I always love being with my people. I really like sleeping in bed with my fosters and will sleep all the way through the night until you wake up in the morning. Make sure you have a cozy blanket because I will paw at it to wrap myself up in it - I'm just a little baby boy! I absolutely LOVE to play and adore my toys. Tug of war? Yep. Fetch? I’m a professional. I am very smart and anything that helps my mind think is enjoyable to me, like snuffle mats, food puzzles, lick mats, etc. I’m always up for an adventure – I love seeing new sights and while we’re out and about, you’ll see just how well I walk on leash too! I'm a big fan of other dogs and I'm also fine with cats. Having another playful pup to live with would make me super happy! Now here's the thing, you're probably wondering how a handsome boy like myself has been in the shelter system for so long...well, long story short, new people make me nervous so you will need to build trust with me. However, once I know you, I'll love you forever. Kids freak me out so adults only, please. I'll need a family willing to be patient as we work on my reactivity to strangers and mouthiness because I just get so darn overstimulated and excited. My foster mom has already taught me to sit and I'm house and crate trained too. I'm a very good boy with so much potential - I just need a very special person! I am just so happy to be out of the shelter and start my next chapter. Once we become friends, you'll see why my foster mom thinks I'm the best boy ever! My adoption fee is $350 and I am vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm negative, and neutered. If you are interested in adopting me, please complete the application at form.jotform.com/200883908893166. Story
**I am located in Georgia, but I can be transported north to you!** Name: Jupiter Breed: Carolina Dog Sex: Female Age: 5 Weight: 40 lbs Vetting: spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention House trained: Yes Crate Trained: She is crate trained, but her first experience with them was when she was with animal control, so she doesn't love being in one. Dogs: She has done well with male dogs, but has had personality issues with other females. Cats: She hasn't been cat tested, but can upon request. Energy Level: Her high energy side comes out when she wants to play. She will run and play tug-a-war with a maximum energy level, and she needs to play like this at least twice a day. But when she's done playing, she would love to just relax in the sunshine. Things that make me happy: Food and scratches, specifically butt scratches, and being with her human man. She loves her foster mom and is very protective of her, but she will always want to be a daddy’s girl. She is a terrible flirt and waits all day for an evening of snuggles with her foster dad. She loves her treats of raw carrots and green beans. She even knows the difference when given a choice and she will tell you which one she would prefer at that moment. And if you take the time to scratch her bum she will reward you by loudly purring. Things that make my humans happy: She is so smart. She knows how to give a high five, a regular five, and a double five aka a ten. She also knows No, Sit, and Speak and is working on lying down. She sticks to her schedule of eating and going to the bathroom outside, so as long as her human is consistent all will be well. Working on: Jupiter is still a bit wild when playing. She is not aggressive, but she doesn't always understand that humans don’t play the same way as dogs. She needs someone who can handle a dog who uses her mouth when playing. She won't bite hard, but there could be the occasional nip when your hand is too close to her end of her tug rope. She is also built like a furry little tank and she may jump on you when playing (she doesn't jump otherwise) and you’ll feel her compact weight and her nails. Before FAR: Jupiter lived her first two years on her own as a stray until she was picked up by animal services and was rescued by Furever After Rescue just in time to avoid being euthanized. She was likely never a domestic dog before she was rescued. She doesn't show any signs of having been mistreated by humans, but she will always be skittish around and wary of people. Special Notes: Jupiter is slightly skittish from having been on her own originally. She prefers the flight instead of fight reaction as her first instinct and will need her own special place to retreat to when she gets scared. She wants someone who will be patient with her and let her explore and understand what is expected of her. Ideal Family/Home: Because of her size and background, she wouldn’t be right in a household with younger children. She really needs a family that will be able to give her the love and attention she needs. She will want to sleep in the bed with you where she's not shy about being a bed hog, but she repays with sweet cuddles. She's good on a leash and loves a good walk, but not a long one, so she will need daily exercise through lots of playing. She would not be good in a home where her parents are gone 40+ hours a week. She is a special dog and needs a family that can appreciate her uniqueness. If you are interested in giving Jupiter a forever home, please visit the link below to fill out an application! http://fureverafterrescue.org/adoption-application.html It is best to submit an application through a computer. We have experienced some problems when applications have been submitted using a mobile device. *When you submit the application, you are not obligated to adopt however it does reserve for you the opportunity to adopt that particular animal. We review them on a first come first served basis. If your application is approved, we will contact you and allow you the opportunity to adopt. Story
AATDR saved Archer from a high kill shelter when he was about to be euthanized. He's a happy, friendly, active boy who loves people. He could live happily with children 10 years old or older. He could live in harmony with a somewhat calm, laid-back dog - or he'd be glad to be your only. He shouldn't live with cats. Archer is a young, active dog who would love an active family and going on daily long walks or hikes. A very securely fenced yard would be great for him. Archer would just love it if you're home at least part of each day. He loves his people and being with them! Right now he's been in boarding for far too long, and he's longing to be in a home and part of a family. If you'd like to welcome Archer as your new family member, please let us know!

Story
HOLLIE IS IN HER FOSTER HOME IN MEMPHIS, TN AND WILL BE TRANSPORTED TO CT ONCE SHE IS ADOPTED! This beauty is Hollie!  She is a Carolina Dog mix with incredible ears!  Hollie is 9-1/2 months old and 40 pounds. She's extremely athletic and needs an active home and a fully fenced in yard.  She loves to play in the water!  Hollie is very sweet and affectionate, is learning "sit" and likes to be by your side.  She is crate trained and working on her house manners.  Hollie is good with kids (older children since she is so active), large breed dogs or puppies, but not so much with small dogs or cats.  She is ready to join her new family on hikes, walks and play! Hollie has been spayed, has had all her puppy shots and microchipped.  Her adoption fee of $500 includes the transport to CT.   We use a licensed and registered USDA transport company that will bring Hollie up north after she is adopted.   To apply for Hollie, please go here:  http://www.newbeginningsanimalrescue.net.  Any questions, email us at:  newbeginnings_animalrescue@yahoo.com.   THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING ADOPTING A RESCUED PET!  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 25, 2024, 8:44 pm

Story
ALL our cats and dogs are in the NY area but can be adopted out of state to the purrfect furever home.  In some cases, we can help transport.  Zani's al fresco Summer Adoptions  follow us on FB to find us this summer as we will try new locations to meet the needs of NYC and support the little stores:)            8-year-old 30lbs Roxy, a Siba / Bali Dog mix was found in the middle of a village road in Bali, Indonesia. She was frantic. Her rescuers could smell rotting flesh and see the telltale marks of a string embedded deep in her neck. It's a common occurrence in Bali where small dogs have a string placed around their neck and they aren't touched again so it is never removed. As they grow the string becomes painfully tight around their neck causing terrible wounds. Roxy would have suffered like that for many years. Roxy was caught and taken to the vet where it was revealed she had just given birth. Her rescuers returned to the 'home' she had been living in - her living conditions were terrible. They discovered her babies had been thrown into the jungle just after their birth. The same had happened to all her other litters. It was too late to save her babies, but it wasn't too late to save Roxy. After a long stint in the vet, Roxy's physical wounds healed in her loving foster home with her foster Mama Roxy's emotional wounds healed too. Roxy is approximately 8 years old, sterilized and vaccinated and she's looking for her forever cuddle person. Roxy is now extremely sassy. She's making up for all that lost time without cuddles and just loves attention. She knows what she likes (walks, bum scratchies, her spot on the couch, cheese, cuddles, sunbathing and Netflix and chill) and she knows what she doesn’t like (being ignored and raw meat). Roxy doesn’t let any of her horrid past stop her special skill - showing everyone her very beautiful smile. She’s good with other dogs and isn't interested in chasing cats.       All dogs are located in NY/NJ area All our puppies need puppy play dates/doggy facetime so we recommend homes with other pups or daily interactions to keep them tired out, happy and social.     Facebook: Zani's Furry Friends ZFF (weekly adoption event info posted there) Twitter: zanisff  Instagram: zanisfurryfriends   Dogs are spayed/neutered, UTD on age appropriate vaccines, Rabies vaxed, and microchipped (not Lyme vaxed but we seriously recommend it!)  All are in the NY/NJ area but we will adopt out of state to the purrfect home and in some cases, we can arrange transport.  Please go to our site  https://zanisfurryfriends.org  fill out an application  Many of us (cats/dogs) will be on display on Saturdays or Sundays, weather dependent--please ask by writing us at dogs@zanisfurryfriends.org and following us on FB. If you are seriously interested in adopting one of us in particular, please fill out an application early Friday so that we can be sure to be there. Otherwise we decide based on other variables. Usually we are in our foster homes so this is a bit more stressful and a slightly artificial environment but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes too.   Please consider providing a home for more than one dog, especially if you are considering adopting a puppy. Dogs are pack animals and very much enjoy as well as need other dog company to learn to play, socialize and be good companion animals to people. The upside to this is that you won't feel as guilty leaving them alone and you get twice the love. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer, and you can always donate! If you want to know about cats/dogs specifically being shown at our adoption locations, please email us info@zanisfurryfriends.org closer to the date so we know your interest and will make every effort to have that pet at the event or let you know how and where you can meet.  It is extemely helpful and speeds up adoption if the application is filled out prior to visiting us so please do that before coming to our weekend events. Our weekend locations are: Saturdays or Sundays, weather dependent  Follow us on FB, Zani's Furry Friends ZFF, for latest updates. Usually we are in our foster homes so all this is a bit more stressful but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer. And you can always donate:) Cats and Dogs are spayed/neutered, UTD w/ all age appropriate shots and microchipped. Cats are feline combo tested for FIV/FeLV; dogs are heartworm tested and rabies vax'd, (NOT lyme vaxed but we seriously recommend it); rabbits are spayed/neutered. Please fill out an application and email to: For Cats: cats@zanisfurryfriends.org For Dogs: dogs@zanisfurryfriends.org For Rabbits: nyc.acc.rabbits@gmail.com. Please visit our website zanisfurryfriends.org.
