Story
Camp SNIPSA at Lone Star State K9 Bunk 4 (The Goodest Boys) Dear Future Family, Greetings from Summer Camp! I’m writing to you because the counselors here say I’ve officially been voted "Camper of the Week" TWICE now! They told me it’s time to start packing my bags because my forever family is out there looking for me right now. Camp has been a wild ride. I’ve been working really hard on my badges over the past two months. Here is what I’ve achieved so far: The Shadow Badge: Granted for my expert ability to stay right by your side and be your most loyal companion. The Perfect Fetch Badge: Unlike some campers, when you throw the ball, I actually bring it back. Every. Single. Time. The Good Manners Badge: I’m fully kennel-trained and ready for a real home. Because I’m a Carolina Dog/Husky mix, I definitely get voted "Most Athletic" around here. I have plenty of energy and would thrive in a home that loves hiking, agility, or giving me fun "jobs" to keep my smart brain busy. The counselors say I'm the full package: affectionate, spunky, and full of life. I’ve done the work, I've graduated camp, and I’m ready to come home. All that's missing... is you! Can you come pick me up? Love, Valentino

Story
Jagger is a fun, loving and well-trained dog that would LOVE a backyard. He enjoys soaking in the sun, laying on the couch with you, playing catch or tug-o-war with his toys as well as meeting new people. He does become very excited to meet new people and dogs therefore we still work on his jumping when that occurs. He is potty trained and knows commands such as sit, lay down, shake and kiss. When we adopted him, the shelter stated that he was about 1.5 to 2 years old. He’s now about 6 - 6.5 years old. He’s been on walks with us around the neighborhood with and without a leash. He’s a smart pup that understands boundaries such as not going into the kitchen area and “go upstairs” when we are cleaning the downstairs area.A common phrase we say is “He loves love”. If that’s the kind of dog you’re looking for, please reach out to us to schedule a meet and greet :).

Story
Nala — Young Carolina Dog Mix Looking for the Right Home Nala is a smart, active, and fun young girl, spayed and current on vaccinations. She’s alert, quick to learn, and bonds closely once she trusts her person. Behavioral note: Nala has shown resource-guarding behavior around her primary bonded person (my wife), including growling at other household adults and occasional nipping toward guests. She has completed extensive, professional-level training to address this, and while she’s made progress, the behavior hasn’t fully resolved. Our home is a large, multi-generational household with grandparents and young kids, and that much activity and unfamiliar faces has proven to be more than Nala can settle into. We believe she’d do best as the center of attention in a single-owner household — someone active, experienced, who can give her focused time and more consistency.

Story
Meet Cricket, a resilient and soft-natured senior dog who came to the San Antonio Humane Society just before Christmas. He is an 8-year-old Carolina Dog mix who was surrendered after his previous owners were not able to provide the medical care he urgently needed. When Cricket first arrived in our care, it was clear he was extremely uncomfortable. Our amazing staff in the Leeu Naylor Medical Building found that Cricket was suffering from significant skin inflammation and had noticeable hair loss. The irritation was mostly centered in a large hot spot on his chest, which made him extremely itchy. Ear cytology tests revealed he had an active infection in both ears that required immediate treatment and regular cleanings. Cricket began a dedicated recovery plan that included weekly medicated baths, laser light therapy to help stimulate hair regrowth around his ears, careful wound management with topical medications and creams, allergy medication, and a special diet. Most importantly, he was given plenty of TLC from our staff and volunteers. After several weeks of attentive care, Cricket has made amazing progress and is now ready to find his forever home! Throughout his treatment, Cricket has remained incredibly sweet and cooperative. He loves people and will show off his impressive handshaking skills for a tasty treat. He tolerated baths, treatment, and even dental extractions like a true gentleman. Pelvic radiographs revealed mild hip dysplasia, which is common in large senior dogs. At this time, it only slightly limits his activity; future options such as supplements, physical therapy, or other treatment can be discussed with a primary veterinarian. Our medical team also recommends consulting your primary veterinarian regarding the continuation of his steroids before adopting, though he does have the potential to be weaned off of them completely in the future. This means that he will need a family dedicated to giving him the best of his golden years and are ready to help him adjust. We don’t know yet if he will have a complete recovery of his hair, but we know that regardless, Cricket will remain a truly lovable dog. After spending much of his life outdoors, he would thrive in a home with a cozy bed, calm environment, and plenty of affection. Come and meet Cricket today; he is sure to leave a lasting impression, just as he has on our staff and volunteers.
