Story
"Jake" is an approx 5-yo, well-over 100-lb neutered male Caucasian Shepherd mix (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caucasian_Shepherd_Dog) who is simply the sweetest, most mellow, gentle giant you'd ever want to meet! Jake is vaccinated and microchipped. I've never been so stumped on a dog's primary breed as I am with Jake. Though the shelter he came from (Merced County animal shelter) listed Jake as a Malamute mix, I'm not sure that's his primary breed. He does have a deep chest, extraordinarily thick coat and short, perky ears like a Malamute. However, he does not have a Malamute's characteristic curled tail, and his sabled coloring is very different from a Malamute. Nonetheless, we have to pick a primary breed to describe Jake, so for now it's Malamute. Jake is surely one of the friendliest dogs you'll ever meet. He not only loves meeting new people, he is immediately affectionate with whoever shows him affection. Though I have not observed Jake with children, I wouldn't hesitate placing him in a home with even toddlers; he is just that gentle. Jake is fantastic with the other dogs at GSRSV's rescue ranch. He loves to chase one of my more active dogs in play, and has never even been close to a fight. I'm sure that Jake would be good w/ small dogs and likely cats as well. Jake is completely housetrained. He alternates between hanging out on the front porch and inside the house (via a dog door). He's not a very active dog; he pretty much lays around most of the day. When I walked Jake at Southside Park in Sacramento after receiving him from the transporter, he did great on leash. (I haven't had him on leash since.) Jake LOVES to go for rides in a vehicle. I haven't seen Jake play with toys nor swim in the pond here. While Jake is healthy in general, his hips are not good. He walks and runs with a somewhat stiff gait, and came to GSRSV's rescue ranch acting like a much older dog--likely due to his overweight condition and the 3 1/2 months he had spent at the Merced County Animal Shelter with little exercise. I immediately put Jake on a crash diet, and let the freedom of 45 acres to romp on and several other dogs to play with work their magic. Jake is way more mobile now than when he first came to GSRSV, but he will never be a long-distance hiker. I give Jake both a high-quality glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM supplement daily, as well as CBD oil. I also give him a two 81 mg safety-coated aspirin daily. I will recommend that his adopter continue with these supplements. It will also be extremely important for whoever adopts Jake to exercise him regularly and often to keep his joints from becoming overly stiff and to minimize his calorie intake, as Jake has a very slow metabolism. Jake LOVES to eat! GRSRV rescued Jake in January 2025. His adoption fee is $250.

Story
Paisley is a loving and devoted girl who just wants to spend her golden years with someone who will shower her with affection. Her greatest joy is being by her human`s side, whether that’s playing in the yard, snuggling on the couch, or simply basking in the comfort of your presence. Paisley has a big heart and is always eager to please, making her a great companion for someone who’s looking for a sweet, low-key dog. This gentle soul can be a bit anxious in new surroundings, but with a patient and understanding home, she will blossom into the perfect companion. Due to her anxiety in unfamiliar spaces, we recommend that any children in her new home be age 10 or older. Paisley has been used to a calm, quiet environment, and will thrive best in a home where she can take her time adjusting and feel safe and loved. Paisley also isn’t a fan of other dogs, so she’ll need to be the only dog in her new home. But don’t worry – she’s more than enough dog to fill your heart and your home! Her well-mannered and affectionate nature will make her the ideal companion for someone who wants a loyal, low-maintenance dog to enjoy life’s simple pleasures. If you’re looking for a calm, loving friend who will reward your patience with unconditional devotion, Paisley just might be the perfect match for you. Give this sweet girl a chance to live out her best days in a home where she’s cherished, and she’ll return the love tenfold! A consult with our management team will be provided to discuss her individual needs.Adoption Price: $150

Story
This is our beloved Zelda. Facts on her: Her birthday is April 1st 2020. She is a was spayed at 4 years old. She is a full bred German Shepherd breed. Her dewclaws are not removed. She knows sit, stay, down, drop it, leave it, come, down, off, out, +more. She is a very obedient dog and loves commands, including the none verbal ones. She is crate trained. She can swim, she likes the snow, she likes camp, shes an excellent walkes. Including off leash, her recall is excellent. Shes great with small animals (cats and chickens) she investigates and then ignores them. She gets along with other dogs, small and big. We had a baby and dont have the time and attention to give her. We love her and just want a good home for her. She would do great somewhere with some land or a job. She's really sweet and cuddly. Little bit of a goof ball! She can be timid and reserved around new people. She loves to play tug a war and be included with whatever youre doing! This is really hard but its best for her
