Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families. We have many sponsorship dogs. Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :) So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue. Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding. Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us! Hello we are 2 fun loving little girls who had to start over. Our family didn't have a lot of time to spare for us so we were crated a lot. Our dad decided we deserved better so he brought us to the ranch. At first we didn't know what was going on but then we made friends with the Director and this place is REALLY cool!!! We NEVER have to be in a crate and we are never alone!! There are always plenty of humans around and lots of fur friends and we have this big fenced in field that we LOVE!!! We like to run and play ALL day! Well I guess some might call me an "ambulance chaser" On one fateful Sunday I decided to chase and ambulance and was hit by it. My owner took me to the ER where it was determined I had a compound fracture that would require a large surgery and lots of care to which my mom could not do. The only other option was euthanization :( Thankfully someone said to call 2nd Chance and they took me and paid my ER bill and then paid my $6600 surgery and then nursed me through 8 weeks of crate rest. Now I am all healed and ready to start life with someone who can afford me. Melody is a sweet and gentle lady that has been doing great since coming to the rescue. She has been cuddly with her volunteers, interested in the outdoors when out for walks and overall, just a great little dog. She had no issues handling, including being a good girl for her grooming. hi Weems, this good girl is an approx. 5 year old Cavapoo. She was surrendered to our care with several other dogs from a commercial breeder in Lancaster when she got too old to keep breeding. She is around 16 lbs. Weems is a total cuddle bug. From the moment she came to the rescue, she has been the sweetest with our volunteers. She is a social and affectional pup that will bring lots of love and smiles to her future family. Weems was adopted shortly and returned when the adopter's boyfriend said she tried snapping at him. He was rubbing her belly and she was clearly uncomfortable and let him know about it. There was no skin contact and no bite - Weems did just let him know that it was too early for belly rubs. Since being back with us at the rescue, she has been sweet and friendly with our volunteers. She will come spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and 4dx tested. She is also scheduled for a dental evaluation and will receive as the vet deems necessary, She would need to meet any resident dogs. ✨Meet Winter!✨ Winter is an 8-year-old King Charles Cavalier mix who came into us as a surrender from a commercial breeding facility (aka Puppy Mill) in Lancaster County. Winter had a very difficult life before coming to us, being used as a mill mama her entire life. She is shut down at this time but is slowly starting to give us her trust. We are confident she will make a wonderful family member for a very lucky family, who understands her past and gives her the time she needs to trust them and her new surroundings. Winter loves other animals, and will thrive in a home with at least one other dog. Adopting a puppy mill survivor is life-changing—for you and them. For these dogs, everything is new and often overwhelming: people, houses, stairs, leashes, food bowls, collars, toys, TVs, ovens, doorways, pavement…the list goes on. They need adopters who can move slowly, be patient, keep expectations reasonable, and provide the understanding and tools they need to grow into happy, confident companions. Patience, positive reinforcement, and understanding are key! We promise there is nothing that compares to gaining the love and trust of a mill mama, but it requires intentional effort and commitment from their new family. With the right guidance, puppy mill survivors can blossom into well-socialized, joyful dog- so our goal is always to ensure every adopter is fully prepared to give them the life and environment they need to truly thrive!
