Liam is your textbook Cavalier- Level 5 Velcro!!! He is smooshable, snuggable, & smart. We mean smart. He practically crate trained himself, he does not like messes, he keeps his area very tidy. And he is a perfect car rider. We like to remind applicants that a new puppy is a lot like a toddler. Liam will need to be supervised, and the best way to do that is to have a dedicated space set up for him. This area will be a part of the home where he can see activity & observe, but it is a place that is puppy proofed. Where he can play, lounge, or nap when his family is not directly engaging. Playpens, 4-squares, or x-pens are excellent tools to make this possible. They are easily mobile if you want to move them around, too. If you have a fence you will need to make sure any gap is fixed/secured. An aluminum or slat type of fencing will need a gap filler around the bottom half so he can't get through, something like galvanized wire mesh or another sturdy mesh type material. If you do not have a physical fence, an xpen will be fine to allow him to do his business outside. We would like to encourage you to have an xpen even if you do have a fence, just to easily keep an eye on him. However, no puppy should ever be left in a yard without supervision, NEVER EVER. A little puppy can slip through some really tiny spaces. Liam is working on potty training. It is a process that will require commitment & patience, as puppies have a little puppy bladder. Remember, in a new home, a new environment means that new habits will have to be established. If you have interior stairs, please have a plan to keep your puppy off the stairs unsupervised. Additionally, please be aware of the stair railing & the distance between the spindles. Small children and large dogs will be a safety hazard for Liam. This little guy loves attention, cuddles, and playtime, and he’s sure to grow into a loyal companion. With a bit of guidance and lots of love, he’ll be the perfect addition to a home ready for puppy adventures and sweet snuggles. Important things to know about him: 🐾 As with any dog, he will need a few days to adjust. 🐾 He is not housetrained and will require consistent, patient training. 🐾 Invisible fencing is not allowed Bringing home a new puppy is a huge responsibility. It requires lots of patience & time! But it is very rewarding if everyone is invested. Please apply if you meet the requirements & would like to adopt an adorable puppy. Please don’t apply without speaking to your spouse/partner first.

Jingle came into our program as a breeder release, a young adult with a long life ahead of her. When Jingle arrived in her foster home, she was quite reserved. She was confused, she wasn't sure if this was a good thing or not. She was very timid & scared. Boy, has she really changed, she has flourished & bloomed! Once so scared, she willingly goes to her foster mom & seeks companionship & cuddles from her. She will do best in a calm, low activity home. A home that is willing to patiently allow her to adjust & get used to her forever environment. Going into a new home will be another change for Jingle, but she is very brave & we know that she will successfully make the transition if given a chance. She will do best learning from other 4-legged siblings, we would like to see her find a home with some friends of similar size & energy level. She follows her foster siblings around, she likes to play with them very gently, no rough housing. In her foster home, she has proven to be 100% house trained. We are so proud of her. With that said, her new family must understand she could have a few accidents until she gets her new routine down. Please be prepared to give her ample opportunity for success, praise her when she does it right, & be patient with her. We have given Jingle space to decompress & get used to being a pet. We have not pushed the issue of leash training. We do not know if that is something she would enjoy in the future or not. Therefore, for her safety (& for her to be able to do her potty business immediately upon adoption), a secure physical fence yard is required. An aluminum or slat type of fencing will need a gap filler around the bottom half so she can't get through, something like galvanized wire mesh or another sturdy material. She isn't an outdoor adventure dog; she doesn't need a big yard. But she does need a very secure area to do her potty business. Never EVER should she be left in the yard alone. Jingle is the type of dog that becomes your BFF. Your movie-watching, couch lounging, hanging out, reliable friend. We look forward to matching Jingle with her forever family soon!

Ruby Lena/ Cavalier King Charles Spaniel 5yo / DOB 08.11.20 20lbs Spayed / Microchipped UTD on vaccinations Heartworm / Flea Preventative Adoption Donation: $450 (tax deductible) INSTRUCTIONS for ADOPTION: ***Please read the bio in its ENTIRETY. ***If you feel your family is a perfect match, please send a completed application to gateway4paws@gmail.com. ***Applications & FAQ regarding adoption can be found on our website. ***Only completed applications that meet requirements will be reviewed. ***Since we are 100% foster-based rescue, only approved applications will be contacted or scheduled to meet our dogs ***We do not allow shipping & do not transport. ***You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & be able to drive to the foster for a meet & greet. Special consideration & mileage requirements may vary for experienced Cavalier adopters. We don't know much about Lena's past but we do know, she came from a past life of commercial breeding. Her exposure to 'normal' things in a home has been slight. Her foster family has done a fantastic job of providing a balanced environment for her to learn at her own pace. Lena is not yet ready to be a lap dog. She wants to be involved, but she wants to be able to control the interaction. She likes to be near her foster mom, just outside of arm's reach, and she will intently watch everything her foster mom does, painting, cooking, chores, playing with the other dogs. Every once in a while, she will come close and allow a gentle pet. We completed all vetting for Lena. In addition to basic vetting, we had her knees, eyes, & heart checked, as those are the common genetic health problems that seem to present with all Cavaliers. Right now, Lena checked good on all fronts! Here is what her foster mom told us: "Lena is not a smoosher. She wants to be in the same room & see someone at all times, but she really doesn't want to be touched. She is happy & playful when she follows (my male Cavalier) outside. She doesn't really interact with our lab or the cat, but she follows our Cavalier everywhere. She has learned how to climb on top of the kennels so she can watch out the window. She flies up the doggie steps to get there! I do think a family with another dog would be important to keep pulling her out of her shell. Maybe another small dog that she feels comfortable & safe with. At night she lays against me & sleeps through the night in bed with us. She loves running up the doggie stairs to get into bed. She does great on a leash if she is walking with our other Cavalier. If I try to walk her alone, she pancakes to the ground and won't move. " If you think your family may be a good fit for Lena, minimal activity & someone (human or canine) to be with her the majority of the time, please follow instructions at the beginning of her bio to submit an application.
