Story
🐾 HUEY was found on the streets a few months ago and made his way to us - we could not turn this sweet Schnoodle mix boy away. He's just over 15 lbs and it was estimated he was a senior (best guess around 10 years old) and he had a huge tumor in his mouth that was severely limiting his ability to eat and he was very unwell. His bloodwork was terrible, and he was very shut down. We did an intake and placed him with hospice fosters to make his likely last days/weeks full of love and kindness as he deserved. As he was with them, just from basic care and quality food, he started to put on some weight and getting a pep in his step. He went back to the doctor and it was decided we would try surgery because if he was going to fight to live, he needed every chance of success he could get. He was approved for surgery and got the tumor removed the middle of June 15th and has bounced back SO hard his fosters' heads are spinning. We think that tumor was causing him more issues than was first suspected, and we've never seen a dog, much less a supposedly senior, recover so quickly from a surgery. It's truly miraculous and his fosters love him so much and he's so lucky he landed in their home! He's good with other dogs, super sweet, now full of energy and playfulness, BUT... the only "but" is his behavior with cats. No good. He can't be in a home with cats, unfortunately. But everyone and everything else - great! The growth is sent away to be tested which we're waiting on, but the doctor said he wouldn't be surprised if it was benign. Fingers crossed! He's housetrained but you can see in some of the pics, he was wearing a belly band before his neuter just to make sure no marking. Also you can see in some of the pics the condition he came in and also some that show a little of the growth. Age estimate is hard to tell - like we said, the initial doctor thought maybe older like 12 or so, but since this surgery, there is some second guessing going on for sure that he may be younger. 👉 Adoption fee INCLUDES: all vetting to age (including deworming, flea & tick etc), spay/neuter and microchip (if the dog is under 6 months, alter and chip will occur after they're 6 months, covered in full at our clinic or reimbursed partially at a vet of your choosing). If the dog is older than 6 months and not yet altered, we will schedule ASAP (normally within 30 days) at our clinic . We also provide as an incentive a $60 rebate for completion of positive-based training classes. Adoption also includes lifetime support of the rescue. 💜 Please click PURPLE BUTTON above to apply or go to www.secondhanddogrescue.com/apply and be sure to choose their name from the dropdown to expedite your application!! ✍ APPLICATION PROCESSING: We do most application processing virtually and dog meets will be individually by appointment with ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS. We are not a shelter and are completely volunteer foster-based, so there is no central place to come see all of the dogs available. 📌 IMPORTANT NOTES: ** Housetraining with rescues is sometimes a work in progress and even if a dog is 100% in a foster's home, it should be expected there will be an adjustment period as a dog adapts to a new environment. This is even more true if the dog has not by chance had their altering appointment at time of adoption. ** Also, we highly recommend some form of 2-week shutdown and decompression for dogs going to a new home for best results. --> Lastly, breed guesses in rescue are just that (GUESSES!!) 99.9% of the time. We do not do DNA testing and our breed guesses are based on appearance and sometimes other traits, but we know the dog breed guessing game is a fool's errand even for those with LOTS of experience. 🗺 ADOPTION AREA: several hour radius of Rochester, NY (Canada within 3 hours IS allowed, except that young puppies need to be old enough to have gotten their rabies vaccination to cross the border - usually around 16 weeks)

Adoption Application: https://www.cognitoforms.com/New2URescues/AdoptionApplication. Dogs will be spayed/neutered through us prior to finalizing any adoption. ********If dog/pup is showing as available it is available. Please do not email asking if it is. Submit application to meet dog if interested - yes an application is required******** Meet Bijoux! This smart and sassy little mini poodle is around 4 years old and weighs about 8 pounds. She came to us from a puppy mill- and her last litter of puppies have all found their own homes. Now it's her turn to finally have a family to call her own. Bijoux is a little lap dog who absolutely craves to be the center of attention. She is the definition of a velcro dog- a sweet little shadow who just wants to be wherever you are. She is energetic and loves to run around and play in her foster home and the fenced in yard. She is potty trained! Bijoux is not currently leash trained, but does great in a car! Due to her history as a mill dog, ideally she would be in a home with a fenced in yard to keep her safe. She does get easily startled by loud or sudden noises. She also would do best in a home where her human can be with her most of the day. She also would be just fine as an only dog- if there are other dogs in the home she would do better with a dog who is not submissive in nature. She can play a little hard and needs a dog who will help redirect her and help her gain confidence. She is non-reactive to cats and has not been tested with children. Bijoux is such a lovely and sweet little lady. She would love to be your BFF if you have room in your heart for this retired mama! If you would like to meet this adorable dog an application must be filled out: https://www.cognitoforms.com/New2URescues/AdoptionApplication We are in Rochester, NY, we adopt to people who live in the Rochester area. Additionally we require physically fenced yard for dog/pup to play in safely. Exceptions are sometimes made to this requirement but is up to the foster and more often done for the small breed dogs. All our dogs have been treated with de-wormer; heartworm tested (if age appropriate -7 months or older); treated for fleas/ticks; microchipped; and examined by veterinarian plus given age appropriate vaccinations. We take every effort to ensure the health of the animal and you will receive a copy of all vet work performed at time of adoption. Dogs will be spayed/neutered thru us prior to finalizing any adoption. We provide information on dogs age and breed based on what we are told by person surrendering dog or vet's best guess. While we try our best we cannot guarantee that this information is 100% accurate and can often be best guess in case of our lovable mutts. You can learn more about our rescue and process at www.new2urescue.org or find us on Facebook. You must be 25 yrs of age or older to adopt through us. We are in the Rochester NY area and adopt dogs out to area residents. We are registered in NY State with the Dept of Agriculture RR #033 and a registered 501c3 Non-Profit

Story
Meet Zach & Jena This super sweet senior duo is upbeat, easygoing, and simply lovely to be around. They’re well-mannered, happy-go-lucky, and wonderfully undemanding.   Jena & Zach are bonded 10-year-old siblings believed to be Shih-poos or Cockapoos - although without a DNA test, that’s just our best guess!   When they arrived, they were a combined 17 pounds overweight - a significant amount for their small frames. Thanks to proper diet and exercise, they’ve already lost 10 pounds, and with every pound gone, they’ve gained so much life back. Their joy has blossomed as they’ve regained the ability to enjoy walks, belly rubs, and even jump for excitement when we come home - all things they struggled to do before.   They’re sweet, quiet, and happiest lounging together in a big cozy bed. Zach enjoys chewing bones that are way too big for him. Jena is a professional stuffy & squeaker toy assassin. (you better get a Barkbox subscription!)   They LOVE their daily walks and can barely contain their joy when the leashes come out!   Housetrained (not a single accident in foster care) Fully vetted Dog friendly - they prefer calm, quiet dogs Good with calm, respectful kids Cats unknown, though honestly, they’re not chasing anything these days   These sweet seniors are looking for a forever family who will continue supporting their health and wellness journey. A home with minimal stairs would be ideal for their continued success.   Do you have the perfect home to give Zach & Jena the retirement life they deserve? Applying is the first step to meeting them - APPLICATION   (See our Dog Adoption FAQs before applying)  July 3, 2026, 11:30 am
