For inquiries email donyea@compactcaninerescue.org Fee: $400 Location: Suffolk, VA Meet Remi Remi is a precious little girl who is just beginning her new chapter in rescue after coming to us from the Chesapeake Animal Shelter as an owner surrender. While it was a difficult decision for her previous family, its clear that Remi is ready to find a loving home where she can truly thrive. Though shes still new and were getting to know her personality more each day, one thing is already certainRemi is incredibly sweet and gentle. She does have some cloudiness in her eyes, but she navigates her surroundings well, and her foster mom does not believe she is fully blind. Remi is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccines, so shes ready for her forever family. She has a great appetite (she loves mealtime!) and is making steady progress with house training. She is crate trained, sleeps peacefully through the night in her own bed, and has a calm, quiet natureshe rarely barks. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and has even done well with a rabbit in her foster home, showing her gentle and easygoing temperament. Remi also enjoys cuddling and being close to her people, making her the perfect little companion. Remi is truly a hidden gema sweet, loving soul just waiting for the right family to see how special she is. Please follow us on social media for the most up to date photos and information. Story
For inquiries email lynne@compactcaninerescue.org Fee: $400 Location: Suffolk, VA Meet Chester! He is a sweet senior poodle (mix) from the Chesapeake Animal Shelter. He is a sweet little old man looking for a warm lap and all the love he can handle! He was originally in a shelter and adopted to a family but ended up as a stray again. Now he is safe in our rescue and looking for a place to retire. He will need to see an eye specialist and the primary vet then he will be available for adoption. He is vision impaired but he doesnt let that get him down. He is a go with the flow kind of dude! Chester had his dental Monday, May 18th and came through with flying colors. Foster mom said he slept through the night, got up and took his meds like a champ then settled back down for a post op senior snooze! Chester is a very spry little man. What he lacks in vision he gained in heart. He is very loving. His tail wags all the time. Now that his dental is completed and his mouth is feeling so much better, he is loving life. He's just the perfect boy according to foster mom! Chester does have a low functioning thyroid. He is currently on medication for this and will need to remain on it for life. The medication costs about $3 a month from Chewy. He is also on eye drops for a few weeks. He will return to the eye specialist to see if he will need them forever. Chester is the victim of neglect. If someone would have taken him to the vet as a puppy, he most likely would not be blind. The eye specialist said her guess would be he had distemper as a puppy which can cause blindness. Routine vaccines can prevent so many unnecessary issues in dog. Please use this example as a reminder to vaccinate, spay/neuter, microchip, and test for heartworm disease. Simple testing and routine vet care can keep your dog healthy and happy for years to come. Please follow us on social media for the most up to date photos and information. Story
For inquiries email ashley@compactcaninerescue.org Fee: $400 Location: Montpelier, VA Update 5/14/2026: Cuddles continues to dream of her new home. She is a playful, active little lady who would love a home of her own full of toys she can squeak. Cuddles loves walking and snuggling. She is the perfect little lap dog. Update from Foster Mom 3/24/2026: Cuddles is such a playful little girl! She loves toys, bones and a long back scratch. Cuddles gets along well with other dogs and earns her name, being so snuggly. Update 3/20/26: Cuddles is feeling 100% better after her surgery. She is full of life and ready to find her new home. She will need to remain on prescription food to ensure she does not have any more bladder stones. She is a lovely little girl and will make a wonderful pet! Cuddles, a 10 year old, 14 pound poodle mix, is new in rescue. She was surrendered to the rescue on Sunday afternoon by her family because they no longer had time for her or her medical issues. She was reported to have skin issues. While she does have itchy skin, her more pressing issue was the blood we saw in her urine. Cuddles was taken to the vet first thing Monday morning. The vet performed some tests and it was revealed she had bladder stones. She was placed on pain medications, antibiotics and specialized food to shrink the stones. After a week of treatment she was still miserable and in a lot of pain. After re-evaluation, the vet scheduled her for surgery. The stones were removed on Monday, March 16th and sent to the lab to determine the type so we can prevent them in the future. Cuddles is now recovering from surgery and is already feeling better. Cuddles deserves the best and we intend to help her find it! She is the sweetest!! Apply now to adopt! Please follow us on social media for the most up to date photos and information.
