Story
Meet Siskel !! Him and his brother Ebert recently came into the rescue. They are adjusting and learning well and looking for separate homes only. (Ebert is posted separately) Siskel is an approx 9 month old, male Chesapeake Bay Retriever mix. He weighs 67 pounds. He will be neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped as part of his adoption. He is thankfully Heartworm negative and on preventatives. Siskel came to us with limited training and appeared to know nothing about being indoors. He’s learning a lot in his foster home. He’s also building his confidence. He is a very sweet, playful and fun puppy. He’s extremely affectionate. This guy is a shy boy at first. He loves to hoard all the toys in the house. He boops you with his nose and likes to “herd” the family together to hang out with him. He loves to cuddle and be involved in anything you are doing. He does great with other dogs. He can be a bit of a humper at times but he’s learning. He loves playing so another active playmate would be great for him. We do not know for sure how he would do around cats. His previous owner said he was around the barn cats outside and was excited around them but never hurt them. He is not fostered with children but has met several in the neighborhood and did really well. He’s sweet and loving just a bigger dog still working on his manners. Siskel is working hard on his house manners. At first he was completely uncomfortable inside a house but has made huge strides in just a short time. He has been doing great with potty training and never had an accident. He was good on the car rides he’s taken and was good at the vet. He is not very leash trained and is a strong puller currently. He is crate trained but needs some coercing to go in. He will whine a bit at first then settles down. He has not had any issues sharing food treats or toys with humans or other dogs. He can be a finicky eater until he gets settled and does best with a consistent routine. He is still learning about indoor life and will try to chew or play with things that he shouldn’t. He’s learning but needs to be watched. He loves toys and is a strong chewer and likes destroying his toys. Siskel needs an active family prepared to meet his energy needs and training needs. A dog that is not given the proper outlet for their energy quickly becomes frustrated and will act out with negative behaviors. He would do best with a fenced yard due to how much he enjoys being outdoors. He is very cuddly and attached to you when he’s not playing. He loves playing with toys and loves to chase the ball but hasn’t figured out to bring it back yet. He lived outside and absolutely loves being outdoors. He would be a great dog for someone who likes active outdoor activities. He loves water also. His foster says overall he’s a good puppy that just needs time and structure to learn. He’s extremely sweet and loyal. Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA. (He will need to be adopted within a 1 hour drive radius) ‼️Please message VillageDogResource@gmail.com or for more pics and faster response visit our Facebook Page directly with questions or to get an application.‼️

Story
Arya was rescued with her sister Adriana from the streets of Puerto Rico. She is a sweet, silly girl who wants to be a part of a family that will love her and give her the life she deserves. If you want a dog that cuddles, Arya is your girl! Message us if you would like to fill out an application! Arya does ok with older kids, but younger kids stress her out and make her nervous. P.S. We did an Embark DNA test hoping to find out her breed, only to be told she is a "Puerto Rican Village Dog."
We'll also keep you updated on Adriana's adoption status with email updates.

Story
BRUNO - almost 8 years old, 48 pounds, house trained, unknown about cats, ok with some other calm/respectful dogs. BRUNO is a quiet, easy-going boy who landed in the shelter when his owner lost his home. He is experienced at being a member of a family.  House trained and good on the leash, what more could you ask for? I'll tell you!  Bruno will be your shadow. He doesn't like being left alone but instead wants as much attention as you are willing to give him. He is a player and even though a big boy, he loves to play with silly plush toys. He can be trusted when left alone roaming free in a room. Afraid of vacuums and stairs, Bruno does enjoy going for walks. Bruno is a shy boy and will need some patience and space as he gets used to new surroundings and people. He knows a lot of commands and will readily do for treats. He is not a fan of small children and will avoid them when possible. Bruno doesn't have a problem with vet visits but if there is a shot involved, we are told it might be better to use a muzzle. Bruno is waiting to meet you! Come on in and ask.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 13, 2025, 1:48 pm
