Story
Please make sure to read the narrative below our pet's photos as you will find a description of our pet with all we know about them, our adoption fee info, and you will find the link to do our online Adoption Application which is the first step in our Adoption Process!    ADOPTION APPLICATION:  https://elmorehumane.org/adoption-application-online-form2.html .    We respond via email to your apps so please add hselco@bellsouth.net to your contact list or check your SPAM folder for our response. If we do not receive a timely response we simply move on to another applicant. And please wait for our response as we schedule appointments to meet our pets. Pet info, adoption cost/detail information below: PET DESCRIPTION:  Tigger is an almost eight-year-old male Chihuahua mix, about 10 lbs.  He is sweet as can be, great with other small dogs & cats.  His special need is that he has chronic skin issues that are a challenge.  This means eating HIGH quality food, perhaps prescription food from your Veterinarian.  He has had to go through antibiotic treatments & medicated baths to try to get his skin back in order and we are making progress. This little guy is in our office enjoying the good life so not in our kennels.  He is a wonderful little dog but please talk to your Vet as skin issues can be very frustrating and can entail routine trips to the Vet so something to deal with realistically and financially.   DOG ADOPTION FEE is $100. This Adoption fee includes: mandatory spay/neuter which will be done before you can take your dog or puppy home with you; basic canine immunizations (DHPP-CPV & Bordatella Intranasal); de-wormings; one-year rabies vaccination if old enough; heartworm test if over five months old; microchip from 24-Pet Watch (and we register the chip at time of the adoption); certificate for free health examination at your participating veterinarian; and a goodie bag chocked full of information, toys, and more.  (If a dog is sponsored or has a waived or lower fee, that info will be provided at the point of adoption to the approved adopter). Story
Please make sure to read the narrative below our pet's photos as you will find a description of our pet with all we know about them, our adoption fee info, and you will find the link to do our online Adoption Application which is the first step in our Adoption Process!     Please read ALL below where you will find answers about the pet, our adoption fees and how to do our adoption application!   Pet Description:  Attn ladies only!  Benny may be a Chihuahua/Heeler mix, about 22 lbs.  Originally came to us as a stray never reclaimed and then adopted but came back today.  He simply does NOT LIKE MEN!  His adopter tried with her Dad and it simply did not work after nine-months of trying.  AND, he exhibits a LOT of traits of a Cattle Dog (Heeler) as goes after adult and human feet and lower legs nipping at them - especially when going in and out of doorways. So no young children as they might not understand that.  He did fine with one cat in the house but not the other so best to just say no to cats.   Benny will also perhaps do better in a home with another dog.  He is a very active boy and having another dog to play with might help his person a lot.  He does great with dogs of all sizes and both sexes!  Not here in our Shelter but in a foster home and doing great there.   DOG ADOPTION FEE is $100. This Adoption fee includes: mandatory spay/neuter which will be done before you can take your dog or puppy home with you; basic canine immunizations (DHPP-CPV & Bordatella Intranasal); de-wormings; one-year rabies vaccination if old enough; heartworm test if over five months old; microchip from 24-Pet Watch; certificate for free health examination at your participating veterinarian; and a goodie bag chocked full of information, toys, and more.  (If a dog is sponsored or has a waived or lower fee, that info will be provided at the point of adoption to the approved adopter).   The first step is to our Adoption Application here:  https://elmorehumane.org/adoption-application-online-form2.html .   IMPORTANT – we respond to your emailed applications and queries via email back to you.  Please make sure you have either added our email  (hselco@bellsouth.net)  to your contact list or that you routinely check your SPAM folder for our response just to be safe. Story
Friendly from the moment you meet, she will instantly stop, drop, and roll for all the belly rubs you will give her. With plenty of pep in her step, Lady Bean enjoys a nice sniffing adventure around the neighborhood, smiling all the way. Otherwise, she is content to claim her spot on the couch, especially being beside you. She is very gentle and easy going around the 3 young active children in her foster home. Sure, shes cute, but its that soulful companionship that takes the cake. Go ahead, treat yourself! Est. birthdate is 5/18/2011, 30 lbs., her $200 adoption fee includes vaccines up to date, parasite prevention, spay and micochip. This 30 lb. love bug has an attitude of gratitude and will certainly bless you with all that she is!

Story
Meet Tum Tum — a low-maintenance smaller dog who is looking for a chauffeur/forever family to drive him around town and help write the next chapter of his life: “Driving Mr. Tummy.” While some dogs are fixated on their ball or their daily walk, Tum Tum’s all-consuming obsession is the car. He would sit in the passenger seat all day long if he could.  Tum Tum is approximately three years old, has only three legs, and is the perfect small to medium size at just 33 lbs. He is a mix of 19 different breeds according to his breed test — an equal mix of small and large breeds. Chihuahua (15 percent) and Husky (14 percent) were the top two breeds. He’s potty trained, crate trained and not destructive. He gets along with other dogs, enjoys the company of children and is completely neutral around cats. Tum Tum can be leery of men he does not know, but he loves his foster dad. It’s important that any man in the home wants to spend time with Tum Tum to develop a good relationship.  Tum Tum is calm and well-behaved when he’s on a leash, but short walks are more his speed. Tum broke his front leg as a younger dog. Sadly it was never properly fixed, and it had to be amputated. Tum Tum is looking for a home with a fenced yard so he can enjoy sitting outside. He doesn’t need a super active family, just someone who likes to take him on car rides occasionally. He does seem to do better with another dog in the home, but depending on the situation, he could be fine as an only dog. Please apply today if you can give Tum Tum his perfect forever home. Car rides are a must! If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at https://www.cognitoforms.com/DixieGirl1/PetAdoptionApplicationForm2 Most of our are pets are fostered in Southern foster homes and are posted for adoption once they are completely vetted and ready to travel. Our pets are adoptable in Alabama and New England States.
