Story
I have to find a home for my father’s dog. We have to move him to memory care and we cannot keep his dog at our house long term, we are only permitted two dogs and we have two dogs of our own. She is a small chihuahua and is about 12 years old. She gets along with other dogs and has been around my kids since they were small. She is potty trained and loves to cuddle. She has a very sweet personality. She is up to date on all vaccines and is spayed.

Story
Please make sure to read the narrative below our pet's photos as you will find a description of our pet with all we know about them, our adoption fee info, and you will find the link to do our online Adoption Application which is the first step in our Adoption Process!     Please read ALL below where you will find answers about the pet, our adoption fees and how to do our adoption application!   Pet Description:  Attn ladies only!  Benny may be a Chihuahua/Heeler mix, about 22 lbs.  Originally came to us as a stray never reclaimed and then adopted but came back today.  He simply does NOT LIKE MEN!  We have no idea why but his adopter tried with her Dad and it simply did not work after nine-months of trying.  AND, he exhibits a LOT of traits of a Cattle Dog (Heeler) as goes after adult and human feet and lower legs nipping at them - especially when going in and out of doorways. So no young children as they might not understand that.  He did fine with one cat in the house but not the other so best to just say no to cats.   Benny will also perhaps do better in a home with another dog.  He is a very active boy and having another dog to play with might help his person a lot.  He does great with dogs of all sizes and both sexes!   DOG ADOPTION FEE is $100. This Adoption fee includes: mandatory spay/neuter which will be done before you can take your dog or puppy home with you; basic canine immunizations (DHPP-CPV & Bordatella Intranasal); de-wormings; one-year rabies vaccination if old enough; heartworm test if over five months old; microchip from 24-Pet Watch; certificate for free health examination at your participating veterinarian; and a goodie bag chocked full of information, toys, and more.  (If a dog is sponsored or has a waived or lower fee, that info will be provided at the point of adoption to the approved adopter).   The first step is to our Adoption Application here:  https://elmorehumane.org/adoption-application-online-form2.html .   IMPORTANT – we respond to your emailed applications and queries via email back to you.  Please make sure you have either added our email  (hselco@bellsouth.net)  to your contact list or that you routinely check your SPAM folder for our response just to be safe. If we do not receive a timely response we simply move on to another applicant.   To learn more about us, visit our Website at: http://www.elmorehumane.org;  Phone: (334) 567-3377 Fax: (334) 567-8774 E-mail: hselco@bellsouth.net May 29, 2026, 5:59 pm

Story
It isn't hard to see her beauty, as Bean's eyes are so full of soul. Friendly from the moment you meet, she will instantly stop, drop, and roll for all the belly rubs you will give her. With plenty of pep in her step, Bean enjoys a nice sniffing adventure around the neighborhood, smiling all the way. Being a southern lady, she wouldn't think of going out without her pearls! Sure, she’s cute, but it’s that soulful companionship that takes the cake. Go ahead, treat yourself! Est. birthdate is 5/18/2011, 30 lbs., her $200 adoption fee includes avaccines up to date, parasite prevention, spay and micochip. This little lady has an attitude of gratitude and will certainly bless you with all that she is!

Story
Meet Skipper! ❤️ Skipper is (estimated at 9 years young) an auburn chipper male. Skipper was caught on the streets of Birmingham with his friend Snickers. So, we honestly think they came from the same home. Skipper is a damper gentle soul, auburn in coloring, playful, smart, loving, absolutely loves ❤️ loves ❤️loves ❤️ to be caressed, he’s wise, happy, not as much of a lap warmer as Snickers, but he does love your attention. He has long graceful legs and is a whoot. 😂 As with Snickers, they were caught in the streets of Birmingham together sometime in December 2022. Both are both house trained with regular trips outside. A fenced backyard would be great and preferred! 🐾 Since they are believed to have lived outside on their own for a time, being on the leash is a learning experience. When they are together, if they see other fur babies they get really excited and like to bark. Which is probably, how they survived on their own for so long as a way to protect themselves being so small and older. Even though Skipper eventually warms up to new dogs, it takes a while, and he would probably be happiness as an only dog in his next home. Skipper is very much loved in his foster home. Thus, only the most perfect of home him will he grace. 🥰 If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at http://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form Most of our are pets are fostered in Southern foster homes and are posted for adoption once they are completely vetted and ready to travel. Our pets are adoptable in Alabama and New England States. Our adoption fee includes transport fee, spay/neuter, current vaccinations, deworming, heart worm test for animals over 7 months old, all necessary vetting and an interstate health certificate. Once an application is received, our team is happy to answer all of your questions and send additional pictures and videos. Thank you for thinking rescue!
